Thanks for starting this. Every actor who could, met their real life counterparts. The timing was perfect as the majority of the real men passed 4-6 years later so most of the cast had this honor.

Most of the men in Easy Company say Herbert Sobel was a genius when it came to unit training, but as a combat leader in the field, he was a nightmare who would have got them all killed had he not been replaced.

In commemoration of the 80 year anniversary of these guys jumping into Normandy on D-DAY, a whole bunch of Airborne paratroopers, including six original cast members from THIS show, jumped into Normandy!! I'm pretty sure there is coverage of it on RU-vid and I believe they made a documentary about the process of the six cast members training to actually get ACTUAL jump wings and be a certified paratrooper!!!😮 Glad you're reacting to this series and you will love it and hopefully show it to your kids and grandkids!!! ❤❤❤

Interesting fact about Winters that gives a big idea as to why he was such a good leader...he enlisted in August of 1941 and completed training as an enlisted man, then he remained at the camp where he trained to help train other men after him. He was selected for Officer Candidate School in April 1942, and after he finished that training and became an officer in July 1942 he volunteered for the Airborne...so when we see him as a Platoon Leader in Easy, that is his third set of training that Winters is undergoing. Fun fact...just about every Regiment in the US Army had an "Easy" company, because "easy" was just the military phonetic for the letter E and the standard structure of a US Army Regiment in WW2 was 9 companies that were lettered from A or Able thru I or Item. So all of those regiments had an B or Baker Company, they all had D or Dog Company, and they all had an E or Easy Company...and so forth.

What was done with Sobel is sometimes called "Kicking him upstairs" Sink couldn't agree to such a demand from the Sergeants (also called NCO's)- it would be bad for discipline and go against the chain of command. But such an action by the NCO's= the men presumed to be the junior leaders and best soldiers- could not be ignored. Hence Sobel was kicked upstairs, to a position where his weak points would not interfere with his work.

This was the MOST expensive TV production ever made at the time it came out. It had a total budget of $120 million, roughly $12 million per episode. The cast was simply AMAZING! Scott Grimes, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, Michael Cudlitz, even James McAvoy.

These men of that Greatest Generation, I hold in high esteem & have the upmost respect for them. They’re not characters here, the names are of real people who volunteered to fight an evil that covered all four corners of the globe. The accuracy of this series is high but some errors were made, nothing to detract from the stories contained. I do suggest that perhaps if you get into comments during, that you pause…as there is so much information you could miss something vital, especially names. I’ll stick around, see how this pans out.

This is great for you guys. Imagine what was going on with D-Day. The plan was for 20,000 airborne troops to jump into Normandy behind the German lines to block reinforcements from the landing beaches. They jumped around midnight and would have no idea what was happening on the beaches where the landings would take place around 6 or 7 AM. The. plan was to land about 160,000 men on those 5 beaches. If you don't know a lot about WW2 in Europe you will learn a good bit about the fighting on the ground. Band of Brothers is a masterpiece.

I think Kevin cut out a lot of the conversation we had before/after watching this episode where I talk about my grandfather. He passed in 1998. He was a retired Sgt Major from the army and served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam. Of course as a small child I never really heard any of his "war" stories, so things like this make me miss him a bit more because as a grown up, I know I would appreciate any of those kinds of stories he may have told. I know that would be true because my Grandmother, who is 96, tells stories all the time about going to work on the ships as a welder during the war and those are some of my favorite things to hear her talk about. That being said, I can remember before my grandfather passed, they sat down in front of an old camcorder and video taped themselves telling their "life story". I'll have to find out who in the family has them and see if they have been put on discs or something and get myself a copy.

Hopefully that’s it for the star gazing. Donnie, David, etc. are not the stars of this series. The men, living and dead ( and being interviewed at the start of each episode) are. These were real heroes with real names and you are hearing those names during the show. Best advice: watch and learn. It’s a stunning story!

Obviously we know they are not the “stars” of the show but as I explained to someone else, because these people are in it, I am immediately a bit more interested in the series. I’ll still call them whatever name I call them (Donnie, Ross… or even a name I make up for them, whatever) because it’s how I remember characters and follow the story line, and that goes for everything I watch. And if people don’t like that, then they can get over it.

Apparently, you were sleeping through the entire scene where the NCOs are sitting at the table, discussing what they need to do about Sobel. They'd just given you a handful of scenes where various Easy Co. men were very concerned about going into battle with him. Those guys were writing letters resigning their positions as NCOs in Easy Co. over Sobel's inadequate and dangerous inability to command. It would have been considered an act of mutiny - again, something clearly stated by Col. Sink when they stood in front of him. Where would you get the idea that he was talking about the men being lined up and shot because they pranked an officer into cutting a fence? This show demands that you pay attention, or you'll miss a great deal of the story.
