Thanks for doing this movie, Major. It means something to me. About a month before this movie came out, I reconnected with my brother and sister. I hadn’t seen them since the mid 80’s. One of the first things we did was go see this movie. We had an awesome time seeing it, and we’ve been close ever since

Such a cryptic trip of a film! So many hints throughout too, after Tyler crashes the car, you see him climb out of the passenger seat to pull Norton out of the driver's side, but Tyler was driving

This movie to me changed the game. And it took multiple watches to get the true jist of this film and how it was different. Its dated but will always be a favorite. Brad and Ed slayed this film!

Helena Bonham Carters looks are modeled after Ms. Lovett from "Sweeney Todd: the demon barber of fleet street". She loves that musical so much she grew up modeling her style after her. Which also helped her get the part of ms. Lovett herself in the Tim Burton adaptation

I saw this in the theaters with my friend and he and I both noticed all the little spliced scenes. After the 2nd one, we looked around the audience to see if they noticed, and no one seemed to notice. We couldn't pause it to see it was Tyler, but after the 2nd 1 we knew it was part of the movie and not a mess up.

No one can view this through Tyler's eyes, cause we know Tyler exist before he meets the narrator, Tyler never throws the first punch, Tyler has memorys of his life, the narrator is 30 and has his own memorys, and really has no way of knowing the things Tyler knows. We also never see what Tyler does odd screne, we see the end results but we only see the narrator. I can't spell the exact illness the narrator has but it's initials are DID, I only see this point of view thanks to my own sevre mental illnesses with uncontrollable delusions, once you become self away the delusions don't go away.

You could probably watch the movie several times and catch new shit everytime. The movie is genius, because if you really pay attention to the narrator, he gives out so many hints. And when you rewatch it, what sounded random the first time around, you're like... Ohhhh that makes so much sense now!! Like when he is beating himself up in front of his boss, he literally says, for some reason, this reminded me of my first fight with Tyler! Or the fact that you don't know the name of Edward Norton until the end.

Like a lot of great art, this deserves multiple viewings and some time processing what you saw. It works on an initial emotional level from the get go. The real enjoyment though comes when you watch it again and see a whole different film than the first time. Again it's different on your third view. Come back over the years and it's still fresh. You still find new layers. It's an amazing example of collaborative art at the highest level from the writing, directing, sound, photography, design and of course, the acting. *Chef's kiss*

It’s worth a rewatch, those flashes at the beginning make more sense on a second viewing, and you’ll spot stuff like Ed Norton doing sit-ups at the same time Tyler is banging Marla The movies an interesting study of how a cult of personality forms, and how people will lose their sense of identity following a charismatic leader and how those leaders prey on vulnerable, unhappy people…Tyler says enough sense to make you ignore the really messed up shit he’s trying to push. All of David Finchers films are about the extreme pathologies humans can have and the grey morality of life, from The Game, Se7en, Gone Girl, Zodiac, The girl with the dragon tattoo and his series Mind Hunter…he also layers the stories in some of his films so there’s a different way of interpreting events…se7en the characters might or might not be in Christian purgatory…this film, Ed nortons character is possibly the fiction(there’s no split personality at all) and Tyler as the cult leader is just telling you a story to make himself seem more sympathetic by making out this neurotic and pathetic narrator Ed Norton is the real him (the dick at the end is him sort of teasing "you’re buying into my bullshit?")…or both Marla and Tyler are imaginary, and Ed Norton/the narrator is struggling to come to terms with losing his testicles to cancer. There’s a few directors who do this really well, the most well known is Kubrick, The Shining being a prime example of being a ghost story, while also being a story where there are no ghosts at all, just a family with an abusive dad slowly going insane and hallucinating various things Cheers for the reaction dude, it was a lot of fun watching your commentary and seeing you trying to figure what the hell was going on

Yeah, it's a mind fuck. I include this movie with Se7en and 12 Monkeys. I consider it Brad Pitt's first foray into serious acting, not just a pretty boy. This and Se7en are the best, with the latter being my favorite to this day. It did take me watching it a second time to fully appreciate it. Give it another shot on a day where there's nothing to watch. You'll truly end up loving it.

Some people are not good at processing emotional pain. This can be caused by severe childhood trauma. Just like Dissociative Personality Disorder where you legit have another personality "take over" and you would never know ("multiple personalities"). What makes sense to these types of people is physical pain ("Ouch. I got a cut.") because we are trained from a young age that if you get hurt you bandage it up and it will heal. Emotional pain, however, can be harder for these people to cope with because they never learned how. The same chemical in your brain is released to make you "feel better" whether it's emotional or physical pain. In my opinion, "Fight" in Fight Club is about Fighting everything. Pain. Fear. Society. Reality. Insecurity. Life...
