“The Queen of Thorns” was Diana Rigg’s last role. Her performance in GoT was masterful. Olenna Tyrell was one of the best characters (from the show, anyway). It wasn’t just the writing for her character. It was the way she delivered the lines and the attitude that she gave Olenna. Sharp wit. Quick thinking. Clever. Ruthless. She was willing to do anything for House Tyrell and she didn’t hesitate. Her sparring with the Lannisters was awesome. Diana was perfect for the role and nobody could’ve done it better. She was quite beautiful, especially in her younger years. She was in a lot of things over the years, including in stage performances, as well as TV and movies. She was in a James Bond film, too.

One of the cooler things about this Dany reveal is that earlier in the season, Missandei says to Dany "Valar morghulis" and Dany replies back "yes, 'all men must die', but we are not men." @jrlombardi5251
@jrlombardi5251 Год назад
When Theon says that Robb always reminded him that he wasn't a Stark, it isn't just his insecurity, you probably don't remember this but in season 1 Robb did treat him like that all the time and actually once treated him pretty badly about it, so it is true. Even so, since he was named king in the north their relationship gets much better, to the point of calling themselves brothers and with Robb having all his trust in him, so you probably remember that much more than what happened in the very first episodes.

Dracarys became such an iconic line that it carried to House of the Dragon. In the books, it's not stated that "Dracarys" is used to command dragons it's something Daenerys invented herself since she has no one to teach her how to tame or train a dragon. She used a Valyrian word so no one mistakenly uses it and causes a disaster. Just a fun fact.

I couldn’t find a single bad actor that’s extremely rare and hard to pull off most if not all of the side characters has proper depth and usually play a vital role in the story, For example Varys hating magic makes alot more sense when you see the terrified look on the warlock face while in the box that man was there for one shot and i still remember the expressions on his face vividly because he did an amazing job. About what you mentioned in the beginning, that some people claim the white walker didn’t see Sam at the end of season 2’s last episode, I don’t think that’s the case. It’s obvious that he saw him judging from the white walker looking down and Sam’s reaction, but they decided to let him go, similarly to what happened to that guy in the very first episode of the show. There’s simply no way that Sam could’ve remained hidden by that rock from all the wights and walkers passing by. They probably want some people to survive and spread the word. It’s why they leave those symbols drawn using corpses. It sends a message of “we’re coming and there’s nothing you can do about it” or something like that.

Fun fact: Dany revealing she understands and speaks Valyrian has two extra layers to it, one of which could be considered a fortunate accident on Emilia Clarke's part. Short version: Dany saying "Zaldrīzes buzdari iskos daor" is the mixing of two languages, partly a deliberate choice by the writers and the creator of High- and Low Valyrian, partly a lucky accident by Dany's actor; the two words "buzdari iskos" are the ones the slave master would assume Dany wouldn't understand as they're from HIS language and not hers, inserted by Dany to instantly make him aware she understood all his repeated insults during her stay in Astapor - Emilia Clarke's little accident was mispronouncing "iksos" as "iskos" but luckily, the latter was already created as the Low Valyrian variant of the original High Valyrian word. Long version: George R.R. Martin had written a couple dozen words for Valyrian in his books, but he hadn't made it a full-fledged language, so when the showrunners got the man who created Dothraki (David J. Peterson) to expand on the Valyrian language too, he created High Valyrian and Low Valyrian. The former is essentially the less-spoken vestige of the nobility of Old Valyria - it's the one Daemon and Rhaneyra spoke almost exclusively to each other almost 200 years earlier, so even then it was a dying language - while the latter was formed in the conquered Ghiscari territory (such as the region where Astapor is located) by incorporating Valyrian into their pre-existing languages. Some of the differences between High- and Low Valyrian includes the words for... for example, a slave; dohaeriros (HV) and buzdari (LV). Daenerys speaks Valyrian, but to make it absolutely clear to Kraznys that she knows not only how to speak HV but also understands his variation of the language (and thus also understood all the insults he's thrown her way), she injects the LV word for slave into her HV revelation of her identity. Clarke's accident was mispronouncing "iksos" as "iskos"; fortunately, Peterson had already decided one of the ways LV separates itself from HV is through words that include a ks, ts, ps sound in the original language having the letters be reversed, meaning while Daemon Targaryen may say "Once you are wed, you may do as you like" as "Dīnakson toliot, gaoso gaomagon kostas", Kraznys would (among other likely differences) say the first word as "DīnaSKon", and so Daenerys saying the LV "iskos" instead of the HV "iksos" fits with the previous usage of "buzdari" instead of "dohaeriros"

Regarding Craster, remember that Jeer Mormont told John that the reason he was willing to overlook his actions, is that the Night’s Watch need men like him. Not just him, but also OTHER men beyond the wall. Craster’s Keep was probably just one of many places where Rangers could take shelter, resupply, etc. The Night’s Watch exists to defend the People south of The Wall, they serve the Seven Kingdoms, and the Wildlings north of the Kingdoms are independent. It is not for the Night’s Watch to regulate how the Wildlings live, or to punish them for acts that would be unacceptable in the south.
@noneofyourbeeswax01
@noneofyourbeeswax01 Год назад
Exactly; the Night's Watch are not in Kansas anymore - North of the Wall is Wildling country and most Wildlings hate the Watch. A safe sanctuary that affords protection from both Wildlings and White Walkers, whilst also providing basic sustenance, is certainly worth putting up with a tiresome host for.

This episode is one of the best in the entire show, and not just because of the ending. Every single scene and every character has such interesting development - Jaime has had his world turned upside down and reaches his lowest point so far; Theon also has his situation flipped on him just after he confesses his irreparable mistakes; Sam also has his situation radically changed now off on his own after mutiny. Varys lets us see his darker side while also playing Ros and the Tyrells against Baelish, Margaery is expertly manipulating Joffrey and Sansa too in the Tyrell play to counter Baelish and claim the north, Tywin writing letters, and of course Dany's play to get an army (and sacking a city). So many great things. I'm tempted to say this episode is my favourite. Just lacking Ygritte unfortunately, a personal favourite character!

My unconfirmed theory is that "he" wanted Theon tutored not only physically but psychologically. To give Theon hope and then rip it away from him. In an attempt to traumatize Theon in a way making it difficult for him to trust another person.

A lot of why Jamie is so upset by losing his hand is because his appearance is all Cersei really cares about. In the books we get to read his thoughts about Cersei, and any time his appearance changes he thinks "Cersei won't like this, I won't look like her anymore". So the whole time he's in jail his hair is growing, his beard grows in, he loses weight, etc, and that's torture for him. Losing the hand is a permanent change to his appearance, on top of that hand being his entire reputation as a knight. Goes to show how much of a narcissist Cersei is too

Short summary of the skipped scene (obviously *without* any spoilers) : Joeffrey was telling Margeary gruesome and creepy anecdotes about history, and she was faking liking it, laughing at it. That's why in the very next scene she manipulated him so easily, he was already in a trusting mood. And Pudgey understood it perfectly in the Margeary-Sansa scene : Margeary _was indeed_ securing the key to the north, but at the same time it of course helped Sansa herself. See how smart Margeary is and how she adapts her entire demeanor to the person she's talking to. When she spoke to Sansa, she first gained her trust with a funny story, taking on a kind of older sister role (since Sansa at this point is not nearly as naive and trusting as before, this is necessary to break her shell). And then she uses that feeling of safety to "manipulate" her. Anyway I loved your reaction and hope you'll have a great holiday.

I don't know if this was an intentional decision by the showrunners of both HOTD and GOT, but it's really cool to hear the difference in Dany's Valariyan and the Targaryen's of HOTD. I like how the HOTD actors speak their Valariyan in a much thicker accent having so many ethnically Valariyan people around them. Dany's accent fits that of a kid who was in hiding who only speaks the language with her brother who was only 8 years older than her. Nice touch.
@suddenimpulse030
@suddenimpulse030 Год назад
It was intentional yes. They had a professional linquist hired for GoT and then also for HotD who extensively crafted the Dothraki and Valyrian languages. You can find interviews with him on RU-vid in fact.

1. Pay no mind to Spartan, Pudgey! You're the MVP of this reaction. Your theories about Theon and the Tyrells are interesting and logical. Of course, the truth still remains to be seen. 2. The Varys at the start of this episode, in conversation with Tyrion, is the closest to book Varys. The showrunners sweetened his character to make him more likeable. The real Varys, as was shown here, is DANGEROUS. Myr is on the western coast of Essos and Astapor is deep in southeastern Essos. Think of Myr as on the coast of the Mediterranean in the Middle East and Astapor in East Asia ( Thailand, Cambodia, Laos & Vietnam).

The Night's Watch can't get reinforcements from King's Landing, because no-one in the South believes that the North holds any dangers worse than "Snarks and Grumkins", i.e., they think tales of White Walkers are just that; old wive's tales. The South considers the Night's Watch as little more than a penal colony where the realm disposes of it's exiles and outcasts, with the occasional exiles nobleman or retired Northern Lord (like Jeor Mormont and the snooty nobleman who led a trio beyond the Wall in the opening scenes of episode one) to ensure a level of competency in the command.

I would like to clarify that Daenerys only got the 8000 Unsullied. It’s made clear in the books that the rest of the former slaves that march with her on her exodus are just followers who want to be with her as they see her as their saviour. She doesn’t ask any of them to fight for her. Only the Unsullied. People seem to think ALL slaves she set free are now part of her army and they twist it as her only freeing slaves so she would have soldiers. Only the Unsullied are former slaves who fight for her. The rest are just admirers.

One of Tyrion's acts as Master of Coin was to impose a one penny tax per brothel visit. This tax was extremely unpopular and was referred to as "The Dwarf's Penny". Once Tyrion and Olenna Tyrel were talking and Olenna was, as you two would put it, "taking the piss" out of Tyrion. She said something along the lines of not wanting to take any more of his time as she was sure he had lots of pennies to collect. Tyrion stammered something about not collecting the tax himself personally. She said she was disappointed in hearing that, that she had always envisioned him hiding under the beds with a tally sheet. She was one of the few who could dunk on Tyrion in a verbal battle and not get worse in return.
