I don't remember what the first picture Mavis didn't appear in was take with, but the reason vampires supposedly don't have reflections, is that old mirrors were made of silver, and old cameras used the same mirrors for taking pictures. Films also have silver in them so you couldn't produce a picture with a vampire in it. Mirrors are no longer made of silver, and therefore there's no silver mirror in a modern camera, and some cameras don't use mirrors at all. So you'd be able to take a picture of a vampire with one, and they could see themselves from a mirror as well.
