Lestat knew how to drive, because he fed on Daniel. When they drink someone's blood, they gain their knowledge. I think it was mentioned once in the movie, but it's more a book thing.

While Lestat slept in the books he could hear and see the world change in dream like visions.
@jonathonbell8258

Im afraid thats not true in underworld the vampires gain knowledge from blood, but in the vampire chronicles a vampire is gifted with a preternatural understanding of things. And the ability to perfectly copy any action they see. For example in the books Lestat, after becoming a vampire is able to perfectly play the violin, because he watched his friend Nick expertly play his violin for months when the lived and worked together in Paris in a theater.
@ashscott6068
@ashscott6068 2 года назад
@@jonathonbell8258 It IS mentioned. I remembered where I heard it. But it's in the sequel to the movie, so it's hardly canon. But I stiill think that this movie heavily implies that LeStat got the knowledge of how to drive and use the radio, from Daniel's blood.
@jonathonbell8258
@jonathonbell8258 2 года назад
You're welcome to think that if you want to, but you're still wrong! I've read every book at least 20 times and it very clearly states that they have a preternatural ability to mimic and understand anything they see. They on occasion see memories in the blood, visions of the past. Maybe thats what you're recalling, but they dont learn how to do things through blood, its their vampire ability to mimic things.
@jonathonbell8258

Also when a vampire goes into the sleep they see visions of the world using their mind reading power. They also learn from the world in that way as they sleep. Its how Lestat learned about rock music and how he woke up Akasha as well.

Sad story is that Anne Rice actually lost a child. She was so overcome with grief that she could do nothing but fantasize about somehow giving her daughter eternal life. Thus the inspiration for Claudia was born and Anne Rice started retooling an earlier short story she had written about vampires, which became her breakthrough novel.

Re: Lestat living so long in New Orleans... in the books, Anne Rice makes it clear that Vampires can dig themselves deep into the earth and hibernate for decades or centuries if they fail to quicken themselves to the new ages periodically. The books are better, natch, but if you want the 'next part' of the story, watch Queen of the Damned. Different actors, Louis is not part of the story, but it's the same universe, and it finishes Lestat's journey.

Please tell me you picked up on the parallels between Hannibal/Will and Lestat/Louis. Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula, had its influence on Harris' creation of Hannibal and Brain Fuller brought that influence to his adaption as well...not so much in the sense of the novel, but the aesthetic of the Dracula films both past and present. There's too many parallels between the characters to not believe that Anne Rice's most infamous vampiric lovers (one who revels in what he is and the other who is terrified of what he is...and how that plays against their longing for one another that is profound and persistent) did not experience some amount of import by Fuller into his Hannibal adaption...even down to the Claudia and Abigail parallels too). Now, on to the film itself. It was a pretty good adaption of the novel. I just didn't think Tom Cruise made a good Lestat (Brad Pitt was a really amazing Louis though!). Cruise portrayed him too 'manic unto rage' when the character was more 'broody-unto rage'. Just a wee-bit over the top, I guess. Kristen Dunst was just great as well.

She and her son Christopher spent the last few years co-writing large parts of the new screenplay, as executive producers, with intentions to update the story to avoid antebellum slavery trauma storylines and to try to match the timeline to end up in recent times instead of ending in the 1980s. When Oprah Winfrey saw the movie, she walked out 20 minutes later, as it was not the film she was hoping for. The movie is dedicated to the memory of River Phoenix, whom passed away in 1993 of a drug overdose. He was cast as the reporter in the film, but Christian Slater took the part. Daniel Day Lewis, Alec Baldwin, Peter Weller, Julian Sands, Rutger Hauer, Alexander Godunov, Al Pacino, John Malkovich, and Jeremy Irons were considered for Lestat. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt hated working with each other on this movie. The Vampire Makeup Effects were done by VFX Maestro Stan Winston, whom was nominated for an Oscar. I love this movie and have read the book 3 times. Such a great adaptation. Unfortunately, the next movie Queen of the Damned is a pale shadow of the amazing book. Queen of the Damned is one of my top 5 favorite books of all time. I'm actually reading book 12 right now. AMC is supposed to be rebooting these books into a series. I hope they do it well. Claudia's character is even more tragic in the book because she is only 5 years old when she is turned but it's understandable that they aged her up a bit. It would be hard to find an actress that young who could convey that much complexity and maturity. Also, the transformation into a vampire is much faster in the movie. In the books, it takes many hours or even nights to slowly and painfully die and expel all your human waste from both ends and even oozing out of your pores.

I feel lucky that THIS is the movie that in my mind is the reference for Vampires... Complex beings, not just pale bloodhunters and people hunting them. As in they are their own people and have rules and creed different to humans but a structure nevertheless.

Ive always loved your reactions but my dear...this one and Dracula is by far the most popular ones ( and Im not referring just to the 92 Dracula but the original)...There are so many more ones to check out without vampires that sparkle...

From Dusk til Dawn most popular vampire movie?! oh gosh, you need to watch more vampire movies haha. At least I'd agree with Lost Boys. Interview was huge when it came out, saw it opening night. Check out 30 Days of Night, Daybreakers, Near Dark and for some weird vamp vibes, Nightwatch.

From Dusk till Dawn is one of my favorite movies so thats why I give it high praise. Fright Night is another movie that I need to check out too, I'll add the movies you suggested to my list. I've heard good things about 30 days of night so we will see.

Great video mate, fab reaction and hearing your views on the film and the characters. The book is very good and sadly Anne Rice died recently. The book also delves slightly deeper into the characters as is of course more possible in a written story. Hinted at in the movie and more so in the book is the homoerotic nature of the relationship between Louis and Lestat. Very much a prelude to the Twilight type of romantic, beauty of vampires and the tragic nature of their eternal live, rather than as ugly monsters. Worth a read if you've not read it. Great reaction and love you vids 😎👍

22:35 How sweet of you to ask 🖤 In all seriousness, I loved your reaction to this movie. IWTV is one of the first vampire movies that I watched and I fell so in love with the story that over a few years I ended up collecting all of the Anne Rice books, your reaction seems to be the only one I can find on RU-vid, so I appreciate you for that. I love hearing you laugh at Lestat's sass and humor, it's a good sound. Louis is a complicated character study but I liked the comparison to your diet 😂 Don't beat yourself up about the names, they are hard to remember sometimes. If you want to, I would love to see your reaction to the sequel/retcon "Queen of the Damned" 2002. It's from the same universe but it's a little more... modern.

One of my all-time favorite movies. I wish we had gotten to see more movies from Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels adapted with the same cast. AMC now owns the rights and are adapting a new interview with the vampire series. Fingers crossed that it will be good.

Not sure if you've seen them, but if you're looking for other Vampire movies, Let Me In and 30 Days Of Night are pretty great movies. There's a american and norse version of Let Me In, the American is with Chloe Grace Morets. And Dark Shadows is a hilarious Tim Burton one.

@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 Id say they're both equally good, just a bit different. The original is slower and puts the characters in a darker area where the American puts them in more grey I'd say. And im a bit more partial to Chloe Grace Moretz.

it is a shame really that the second novel, the story of Lestat, never has been put to screen. „The Prince of Darkness“ is one of the most thrilling outlandish adventure stories I ever have read. And Lestat is one of the most captivating characters ever…. A „Interview with a Vampire“ is lame compared to that tour de force through centuries. The third novel made it to the screen, but amateurishly made, don‘t bother watching it.

The story is about the Idea of immortality. The sad thing about this tale of vampires is once made they retain a bit of their humanity, the will to live, feelings, and emotions, attachments to people and things. But once a vampire creates another... all human emotion and understanding and attachments are lost. They are but a thing that lives but does not feel life. So they yearn for what they used to be. Everything is pointless, meaningless. They then live through those they have created.
