Clark Griswold, reminds me so much of my father, but Clark was a lot more reserved and yelled a whole lot less. Greatest depiction of a standard suburbanite family. Lol
I'm sure you'll like Christmas vacation it's one of the sequels that holds up 100% to its predecessor not many movies do that and this is a great review to see how surprised you were in a lot of aspects of the movie keep going young man you're doing great I appreciate the effort
Agreed! Julia Louis-Dreyfus is hysterically funny as the uppity yuppy neighbor! My absolute favorite scene was when her bf asked Clark where he planned on putting the tree. Especially when he states he wasn't talking about him but her rather!OMFGLMAO!!!
my favorite part is when Randy Quaids character asks Chevy Chase’s character (Clark) if he could use a cold one then hands him his warm half drunk beer and pops himself open a freshie 🤣😂🤣😂
Michael Anthony Hall (Russ) tried to sneak a peak of her when they filmed her shower scene, and he got busted. I think the director made him apologize to her. lol
@@wfly81 lol I didn't know that. Naughty, naughty, Michael Anthony Hall. But, to be completely honest, I could definitely see myself trying to take sneak peaks too at that age if I was him. In fact, I did.
This movie is relatable and that adds to the humor. When I was a kid, every summer my dad tried to take us on the perfect trip....and it always went wrong!!! Lol
21:45 this is actually a parody of CHARIOTS OF FIRE. That was a British movie about their old timey track stars in the Olympics. The song was everywhere back then.
PLEASE... more inserting Mellow into strategic locations. That, my man... is pure, laugh out loud, gold. Seen this movie a million times. Never with Mellow in the back seat though.
It’s one of those rare films that’s you can watch from start to finish without getting bored despite knowing you’ve seen it 70 odd times over the yesrs
Back in the day, there was no Expedia, you planned trips through a travel agent or tried to arrange hotels through the Yellow Pages. My dad tried to plan a trip to Williamsburg, and thought that he got a good price for a hotel at $25 a night. Well, it was a rent by the hour hotel for hookers, in the worst neighborhood of Williamsburg, and their air conditioning broke down. It was July and we were on the 7th floor. We lasted one night, until I had heat stroke and threw up everywhere. Best. Vacation. Ever.
@@MrKeychange my parents probably didn't think that it was that funny at the time, but the passage of time has definitely made it funnier to all of us. Oh and my mom told me today that my dad found the hotel based on a recommendation by his bookie, so yikes!
When we went on vacation, my parents would take us to restaurants that had the most cars outside thinking it was the best food in town. Once, in Nevada, we were eating dinner when my mom caught on to why this restaurant had a number of cars. She told me, about 30 years later, that women were taking men upstairs for extra-curriculars. She hurried my dad and us out. He hadn't figured it out.
@@mtn_linda364 same with my dad! My mom figured it out, but he seemed to think that this place was populated by women who wore a lot of makeup, so they must have been beauty school students.
Mello, you do know the blond in the red car is Christy Brinkley, right? I mean, I know I'm getting old, but surely you know Christy Brinkley. Married Billy Joel? Wait, did you say who's Billy Joel? 😳😳
The scenes with Christie Brinkley originally had the song "I'm So Excited" by the Pointer Sisters. Unfortunately they didn't secure the rights to the song for home video so it was replaced with "Little Boy Sweet" by June Pointer.
Great reaction and a comedy classic. BTW, the woman in the red Ferrari is Christie Brinkley, a very well known model from the 70s and 80s, and still unrealistically attractive today.
They did have a reference in Family Guy in their first Star Wars spoof, complete with Chevy Chase reprising the ghetto scene where the Rebels are fighting at the Death Star, as the now space Truckster is flying through, and the "Roll 'em up." line.
In 1968 my parents drove us from Toronto to Disneyland in California, complete with a detour through Detroit to look at the damage from the riots. This movie isn't a satire - It's a travelogue!
We went on a week long vacation to the beach once, and everything that could go wrong did. Van broke down halfway there and was shooting fire out the exhaust, I angrily slammed the door open and sprung it, I almost drowned, all sorts of things.
One of the best movie franchises!!! You HAVE to see the others too... you'll love them!!! It's funny because it's the same actors for the parents through all of them but different actors for the kids🤣 1) European Vacation 2) Christmas Vacation 3) Vegas Vacation
Even, the re-boot from a few years ago, "Vacation" (although a National Lampoon make) with Ed Helms & Christina Applegate is funny - Worth the watch, indeed ! Might as well do "We're The Millers" at that point & time... Also, "Fletch" is a very under rated movie & sequel was all right as well..... And, "CaddyShack" is a classic.
@@UltimateGamerCC I liked Vegas Vacation. The scene at the cheap casino was hilarious. I loved the Pick a Number and Clark would call out numbers and the dealer would say no. That shit cracked me up man.
I'm ashamed of my lack of attention to details. I have been watching this since it first came out in the 80's. It was only until a bit more recently, like say, the last 10 years or so, did I realise that Audrey actually ends up in the front seat with the folks. I laughed as hard as you did like Rusty with the dog. I still do to this day. Thank you for sharing this with us, we appreciate the time and effort.
Mate I just wanna say that I really appreciate you enjoying the scenes that make racial jokes, because its a joke! and it was made in the 70s! too many people get hung up those sort of things and can't enjoy it
When I was a kid and whenever this came on TV, my Dad would watch it. No matter what part it was on, he'd finish it through. Him and I still quote it to this day. Stands the test of time.
I was 11 when this movie came out. 12:22 - Christie Brinkley (the girl in the Ferrari, who was a very famous model, Mell) quickly became my 3rd celebrity crush (1 was Lynda Carter and 2 was Erin Grey (Buck Rogers)
One of my favs as a child. Even though there was hella adult humor, it still got much replay (we had it on Beta Max before VHS was a thing). I liked European Vacation too but not as much as this one.
I know others have already said it, but its worth repeating: nice touch on editing yourself into some of the scenes. That was pretty clever and I haven't seen any other reaction channel do that. Props.
Oh man, I grew up with this one. Every time I watch it it puts me in a pure state of nostalgia and memories of me and my crazy family when we’d go vacationing.
Fun fact! They were meant to be going to Disneyland and Disney accepted the offer, however once they found the park was closed when the Griswolds arrived, they pulled out as they didn’t want to damage the Disney’s parks reputation
Aunt Edna was played by the late great Imogene Coca. I found out about her when she played the Tooth Fairy on "Bewitched" but she was a regular cast member of Sid Caesar's live sketch comedy series "Your Show of Shows" from 1950-1954. They were TV show pioneers. It ran for 151 episodes.
17:51 My man, I think the entire early 80's wardrobe was sponsored by Lacoste. From some pics when I was 2 I had a little gator on my little polos. I do remember having more than one in many colors, too. I also loved how you edited yourself into the movie scenes. Hilarious!!! I loved that!!! Keep that up!!!
What a fun movie. I watch this so much as a teenager that I had it memorized line for line. I especially love that rant Clark has when his family wants to go home.
The woman in the red sports car is the super model Christie Brinkley... I had to laugh when you said "Why is she doing all these poses?"... Um because she is a model. 😁
This is truly a classic comedy. You have Chevy Chase and the very missed John Candy. I'm a little older and remember watching this as a kid. Such nostalgia! Plus Beverly D'Angelo was the best person for this role. It amazes me at how young everyone was in this movie! :)
European Vacation is pretty funny too, vegas vacation is alright, but my favorite has gotta be Christmas Vacation! Thats a must watch for me every year, easily one of the BEST christmas movies ever!!!
Vegas vacation is not just alright lol. It blows European Vacation out of the water and Id argue it rivals this one in terms of how funny it is. European Vacation was a flop.
@Necramonium I once masked someone just so I could have a Batmobile drive behind them for about 1.5 seconds, took me ages to get it right. Mel's out here masking around Rusty reaching for a tissue and stuff :-) making it all look so easy
Interesting info... The actress who played Aunt Edna, Iomgene Coca had become deeply afraid of automobile travel after a horrible accident in 1972. Ten yrs later she's in Vacation which was shot in an actual caravan travel style from location to location. Basically she was misled that it was going be static location shoots.
"Men gotta be stubborn [about knowing the way]" One time when we were on vacation, my father and I went to find a firehouse hosting a pancake fundraiser. We were out searching this small town for 45 minutes trying to find the damn place (this was at least 22 years ago, so no GPS) and Dad turned down all my suggestions to ask for directions. Then we stopped at a red light, I got out to ask someone on the sidewalk for directions, and before the light changed my dad took off, leaving me there because I asked for directions. I had to walk ten miles to get back to our condo (and I managed to find my way back by ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS) all while trudging through 4-6 inches of snow. My mother was PISSED when she found out. So yeah, men, especially old school men, gotta be stubborn.
I remember watching this movie on VHS in the basement of my best friend's house, which we had to sneak to see because it was rated R and we were too young. So amazing how much of that adult humor went clear over my head at the time. I vividly remember being confused about what was in that shoebox Vicky showed to Audrey. To my eyes, it looked like that fake green grass that you see stuffed in Easter egg baskets, and I remember being confused about why Audrey looked so amazed by that. And also not understanding what Cousin Dale meant by "bop your bologna." I thought he meant actual meat... Boy, was I young...
This was the first R rated movie I ever saw and one my mom would allow which was strange but I grew to like this movie more and more out of the series this one the christmas one and the last one are my favourites
Dude! So glad you found this classic. I enjoy your channel great reactions. Might I suggest all John Hughes movies and all Herald Ramis movies. First you have to react to Coneheads, My Science Project, Weird Science and Heavy Metal.
That slo-mo running is a parody of the 1981 Oscar winner called Chariots of Fire, the song's called Chariots of Fire too, it was also parodied at the 2012 Oscars by Mr. Bean and the scenes of Rocky & Apollo running on the beach in Rocky 3 was homage to the movie as well.
Man, I hope you keep up with all the sequels (and eventually the reboot)! Knowing the basic family members now, you'll see how their relationships build as each movie goes on! Also, love that you put yourself in the car and on some rides; had me cracking up!
I liked all the old 80s comedies with actors from both SNL and SCTV, the casts of both shows did a lot of movies together, more than most people realize.
Ok, this is #1 in my all-around top favorites! We saw this in the theater when it came out and I was instantly hooked!!! Back in the day, my father was like this and made sure that we took family trips EVERY YEAR!!!!
You laughed at all the bits my farther used to crack up to, reminded me of watching this with him as a kid. End music was awesome and you hate mids, had to sub 👍
