Fishing AT Battery point , Portishead - I fish the iconic Bristol Channel mark hoping for a conger !

I fish the rock ledges at Battery Point, Portishead on Tuesday March 5th 2024
Fishing a rising tide (4.3 to 9.3 M) I use squid , rag , frozen blacks on 2/0 - 3/0 pulley rigs in the hope of a cod or a conger eel
Parking is easy , right next to the open air pool on Esplanade road (free) and it's a short walk to the mark
The mark itself is pretty treacherous, be careful as deep water and strong current if you go in. Wear the appropriate footwear - I use studded boots

As with all marks , the home your rubbish, keep baited hooks covered as the area is popular with dog walkers etc and dogs come down onto the rocks

Hi Alan, great to see you giving battery a bash, perfect tide & conditions for that venue, I normally go a bit further to the right where the rope is to get down, pretty snaggy there too though! I’ve never had a great deal of luck there, but as you say (a bit like Chesil I guess) one of those marks that could easily hide a monster! Well done for giving it a whirl though and stunning to see from the air. Take care pal😊👍👍

When I lived in Clevedon I used to fish a spot on the ledges and always seemed to catch. Have fished battery but never caught like I did at Clevedon. I know two people that caught 26 pounders and a chap that bagged up with 50 lb plus of cod. Still I'm in Devon now and whole different kettle 😊

hiya mate , that drone footage is fantastic chap , i lost my last one i think its still floating around in the bristol channel somewhere lol. a few weeks time you will be swearing at the fish great session we never blank we learn more about the marks we fish , take care mate see you on the beach

Lovely drone footage. The channel is fishing slow this year, but should pick up soon. I always say never again after losing gear there and aftre stumbling around on the rocks.

For me the BC has been very hit and, mostly miss lately. For those catching, my guess is that they either know the mark very very well or fish it hard. Interesting videos. Chesil should start picking up soon.

Yep - that was your 30lb er, he just got confused and bit the wrong hook - it'll be chocka at that mark for a while ! Drone works really good.
