I was watching this yesterday Tony and I’ll tell you what for the price this is a great idea. Unfortunately the one is Pensacola doesn’t have them in yet for the year. My pvc one came unglued yesterday, after 5 years of use and I was thinking this would make a good backup. I went ahead and bought everything to make a pvc one and it runs about $40 now, 5 years ago it was half. That being said you could get 10 of those for one pvc one these days, and that’s if you make it yourself. May be a smart way to go these days.
This is absolutely brilliant! I've been wanting to catch some ghost shrimp for my saltwater tank - but didn't want to spend $40 on a "real" pump or $20 to make a real one. I was considering trying to scoop them with a bait net - but your method looks way better. My kids have 2 of those blasters in the garage - so you can guess what I'll be doing with at least one of them :-).
I made one today, it is literally $40 to make one now. If was $20 the one a made a few years back. Unfortunately 5 below didn’t have them in for the season yet so I just spent 40 today to make one. 😞 I will definitely try when they are in stock though.
Built the first watergun to prawn pump about 4 years ago. Best kept secret. 15 min job. Used vaseline to service after purchase. I bought a water gun with gun handle. Took front off. Added 5 cable ties to lift plunger rod higher. This silicone o-ring + injection moulding to hold o ring is possibly patented AND very difficult to replicate with waste from the beach. I did it once only. THEN I DISCOVERED THE JUST AS GOOD AND SIMPLEST PRAWN PUMP IN THE WORLD. IT USES P.V.C CYLINDER AND A COKE BOTTLEHEAD ATTACHED TIGHTLY BY FRICTION TO REED. THATS IT. A 3 PART COKE BOTTLE PRAWN PUMP. THE REST OF 2.25 L BOTTLE GETS USED AS REEL AND IS ATTACHED WITH ZENITH BUFF SEALER TO REED ROD AND WITH A SHARPENED REED THROUGH THE BOTTLE. MAKE PLUS SIGN HOLES SO BOTTLE NOT LOOSE.. CAST 59 METERS. BOTTLE COMES OF JUST BY SLIDING. REAL IN AS HAND LINE IF BIG FISH. MORE BOTTLEHEAD AND ELASTIC BANDS MAKE UP THE EYES OF THE ROD..
