Fishing Marysville Victoria | Alpine trout and redfin fishing

We venture up to Marysville Victoria to do some trout and redfin fishing with the kids in one of the local stocked lakes near Gallipoli Park Marysville.
Marysville is a great scenic holiday destination in Alpine Victoria. We enjoyed fishing, visiting healesville sanctuary, Visiting the snow at lake mountain and visiting Steavenson Falls, and drove past the Marysville trout farm. In between enjoying the local township of Marysville accommodation and Marysville township and sneaking in some fishing in between.

What a lovely spot, I have fond memories of Marysville. It's great getting the kids fishing. I commend you for getting them involved. I have just as much fun watching the excitement on their face when they get one!

I love fishing with my kids - a very special thing they love doing with dad (in small doses lol). Good onya for taking them away with you for a family break :) ps. you need to get the kids winding their reels on the LHS while they're still young enough :P

Thanks Scott, agreed that is great and yes certainly in slow doses. My 2 kids are autistic so it can be especially challenging at times, requires extra patience. Good tip on the LHS might try that with them soon.

Im very keen to get more kayak content released soon, its just been a little challenging lately with covid restrictions, weather and I must admit I have been taking advantage of quiet boat ramps. hi allen what are your thought on a topwater pdl 10 foot in port phillip bay do you think it is to small?

Hi Nick, 10 foot kayaks are fine. My first genuine kayak was the nativewatercraft slayer properl 10 and it was a great kayak. The key is picking safe conditions to go out in. Learn to understand weather by using meteye, windy, willys etc and than you will be fine.

We’ve stayed here multiple times and I’ve always left the rod at home cos the river is closed and every time I think I should have brought it to fish in the lake.

Thanks Beck. I didn't even know the lake was there, Found it when taking the kids to Gallopoli park for a play. By chance happened to have the rod in the car and spoke to some locals who said that it was recently stocked and people were encouraged to fish there. Beautiful little spot, which the kids enjoyed.

This is a discontinued rod which is a shame as I really liked it. It was a Savage Gear Finezze 2-4kg rod. I think it was one of the best rod series they made and was disappointed when the stopped producing it. These days there are heaps of good options at different price points.

Is freshwater fishing allowed at this time? Was up at Warburton last week and wasnt sure if fishing was allowed. Was a nice day, nevertheless. Good video. Would like to head there when we get out of jail!

Yes fishing is allowed in this lake. This lake was stocked by fisheries a few weeks ago. There were plenty of families fishing there.

Thank you very much !!! With the new restrictions in place we can certainly fish, kayak and boat but we must stay local either within our metropolitan or regional area as long we we practice proper social distancing. For me that means im fine to fish locally on my boat and kayak at areas such as Altona or Werribee. Just need some decent weather, no fishing this weekend unfortunately. Im really hoping to release some kayak vids soon, so thats the plan. But things are changing very quickly with the covid outbreak in Melbounre so lets hope the rules dont change. Cheers

Yes very clear. If you watch us releasing the first fish we caught you can see how clear it is with the fish quite visible.

Please, please! Cease teaching your youngster to wind with the right hand. If one is 'right handed', all the fine motor skills and strength are in that right hand/arm. That's why we cast with it. When fighting a fish we need every one of those attributes to do that effectively. Winding is purely a mechanical task where none of those things are needed. It is ably done with the left hand. To see you changing from one hand to the other looks so clumsy and inefficient.
