Because the vehicles are being sold for commercial use, the IRA country of origin rules don't apply and American Lease will get the $7500 EV tax credit for every untitled vehicle sold, so really it's the American taxpayer who is footing nearly 50% of that $46.3 million dollars. I personally don't think the taxpayer should be footing the bill for liquidating a bankrupt company's assets for pennies on the dollar. I'm also not convinced American Lease really intends to rideshare them, I have a feeling they might be trying to abuse the IRA and flip them for profit somehow.

So they buy a 355MWh power pack for $46.3 million. That brings us to $130,5 per kWh, so if they just remove the batteries and sell the rest as salvage material (or for recycling). They'll make a good profit on that. Just the batteries alone represent a capacity of 26,300 Tesla Powerwall 3 with a market price over $240 million.

No, battery removal is a very time-consuming and expensive process, which will offset any remaining scrap or parts value from the remaining chassis.

There's a dealership here where I live in Indy. Their site shows over 90 Oceans for sale. Some are listed for half off around $34k, but most are still listed in the upper 60s.

Im sure im oversimplifying here but i think it might not hurt for the current owners to band together and reach out to american lease and see if they would be interested to partner up in which american lease would share the source code w the owners while the group in return will maintain/improve/troubleshoot the software and share updates with american lease. Just a wild though.

That would require the Fisker management to have any degree of negotiating skills, and be willing to be partners with another firm. NOT going to happen.

@@DaveDarin if I understand the deal correctly, shouldn't fisher (and it's management) be completely out of the picture once the deal is done? If fisher is going to provide source code and dev kit to America lease as part of the agreement, shouldnt that just be between American lease and fisher owner association (just made that up, but you get the point)....no? Either way, that's just wishful thinking, and even if it works out, that's won't address hardware issues, spare parts, maintenance etc...

this has been super interesting lesson in how the EV market will differ from the car market, it will be much more like phones/computers than old cars. Without access to the software, the secondary market will be very different than what it was in the automobile industry. And the document even points out the buyer will have to have access to 'subscription services' needed for the cars... does this mean that Fisker was using something like Amazon Web Services for their cloud ? What happens when their cloud goes down for the last time and they stop paying hosting bills? Then the secondary car market becomes more like the video game market?

The link Francie gave us says the following " the Buyer shall be and is hereby granted a royalty-free, non- exclusive, non-assignable, non-sublicensable license solely to access and use in the operation of the Vehicles (and any other Fisker vehicles that the Buyer may own or otherwise acquire hereunder or otherwise) all relevant source code or other proprietary software operating elements, as well as existing developer work, as may be necessary or required for (i) the operability of the Vehicles and any other Fisker vehicles that the Buyer may own or otherwise acquire hereunder or otherwise and (ii) post-transaction software improvements to the Vehicles (and to any other Fisker vehicles that the Buyer may own or otherwise acquire hereunder or otherwise" ---- so basically, no, they cannot open source it. They didn't get the ownership of the source code just access to it.

Someone need to make a kit to turn the battery pack into solar storage (think really big powerwall). The rest of the car could be used for replacement parts for existing owners.

You should really interview the folks at Fisker Owners Association - they have some interesting ideas on helping owners and dealing with the bankruptcy.

There has been news today at the hearing in Delaware that Fisker has been approached by a potential buyer .That info was kept under wraps do to an Non Disclosure Agreement. But we have heard thjs song before...Why on God's green earth would they not sell to a buyer even if it is a reduced price,at least the company would still exist and potentially start again while keeping warranty promise to there existing customers.

Fisker has failed twice, once with the Krama and now with the Ocean. That's just the ones I know of. Is there a three strikes and you're out rule? 😂 I wonder if there is anyone who owns both cars?

A FIsker is only worth as much as the battery pack will sell on Ebay for the off grid battery back up crowd. Insurance rates will be nuts due to no parts for repairs. One little claim will cause a write off. Repair and maintenance will be impossible. Even something as simple as an alignment will be difficult at best as likely no alignment shops will have the specs.

Financially painful experience for pre price cut oceans private owners and the opposite for American lease who will be in the driving seat as it were, for a tax credit for all non parts only cars and rights to have the software updates or reprogramming done as if warrantied.Fisker should have no rights to become a company owner or director of any company ever again.
