"The old cars had a bug where they couldn't receive software updates over the air. So unfortunately they're rolling out the .0 update in stages by sending technicians around to cars to update them. But that's fixed with 2.0" Source: The Fisker employee in the parking lot while dropping off the car
Maybe it was an issue on one of the first OS. Not on the later ones. All those little mistakes make your Fisker Videos really the worst quality car Reviews. See instead a real driver an car expert (also on German Autobahn) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HPI_lnqDiqE.html
That's bad comms on Fisker's part for sure. Either the employee was mistaken, or perhaps they were talking about the very earliest Oceans (the One model, a small minority of the inventory Fisker has today). Might be worth updating this pin to clarify that this is not actually true for most Oceans, at least according to the testimony of the comments in this thread and on Reddit (where many folks are getting OTA 2.0)
It's a shame that this company died due to bad software. Hopefully other companies will take notice of how important the UI/UX is for _all_ modern technologies, and not just adopt the "We'll fix it later" mentality; the first impression is the *ONLY* impression.
Fisker is not dying because of their software. It’s dying because Fisker never set up a proper delivery network in the US and support system for their vehicles. Crappy software can easily be improved but not delivery and customer/technician support.
UI/UX is important but proper dev pipeline and product management can always provide a path forward. You 100% can start with a basic UI/UX (very common) that isn’t perfect and evolve over time without losing users, and in fact having them love the product (and company) more over time. There are likely many other reasons it died, like cash flow, vision, management, engineering, etc…
The company is 0:01 dying again just like Henrik Fiskar's first company because he does not know how to set up and properly manage a company. None of the critical operational stuff was set up properly from the beginning, as evidenced by the fact that they couldn't even collect car payments properly which is unheard of in the car business.
I'm a heartbroken Fisker Ocean Extreme owner and I agree with almost everything in this review. I also mostly agree with the previous one and I really don't want to. Also if Marques had spent more time with the car he would have found so many more UX issues. 1. My Ocean Extreme did receive its 2.0 Update over the air. It required me to manually accept it and consciously unplug and lock the vehicle while it updated. Note: A Fisker engineer did come to look at it after the update for other issues I'd reported. IIRC there was also conversation about updating the key fob... 2. You can manually push the button on the left side of the steering wheel to turn the parking brake off even if your seatbelt is not on ⚠ - If you are stopped at a light and you shift too much in your seat, the car shifts into P and unlocks the doors. ⚠ - If you open the driver side door it shifts into park and unlock the other doors. 3. Bluetooth/Audio still has reliability bugs. 4. I still lose 4G connection for multiple hours in a downtown area. When I do, both clocks on the vehicle's screen get out of sync and are both wrong (minutes are always accurate though.🤔) ⚠ - What happens to the 4G connection if Fisker goes out of business? 5. It now supports multiple profiles but the profiles in the car don't seem to store much besides A/C settings 😞 6. Spending engineering resources on a screen that only rotates when I'm in park and on fancy things like California mode was not the best move considering the state of the core experiences in the car's software. 7. I did get locked in the car multiple times as did my wife. Hasn't happened since 2.0 update I've said it before, the single most concerning thing for me was the promise of a "2.0" update to fix all the problems. Who even cares about version numbers today? How many folks know what version number of Chrome they are running? Nobody even notices when Chrome updates. IMHO celebrating numeric releases of software today is an anti-pattern. Continuous delivery, feature-flighting, A/B experimentation, these are not things you can easily build in after the fact. Shipping without all of them was a mistake and has impacted their engineering agility. I'm a software guy at heart so I'm biased but I think one of the best moves Fisker could make would be to create a non-profit foundation to own and drive forward their vehicle OS stack by making it open source and leveraging the community of enthusiasts. Take 24 vehicles and give 2 a month to community voted top contributors over the next year. This would also bolster confidence for new buyers in the event of dissolution. If the Ocean could become an autonomous vehicle dev kit for companies like Wayve and it's competitors perhaps they could even move more inventory.
Nah a real owner was not going to agreed to his review. This dude is a real owner and he give a real explanation of almost everything. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XVHZVhxOCDw.htmlsi=Y81zVFWuBlZ74Izp
I disagree with the open source comment, this would allow people to mess with the safety of the car in non-test situations. We are all aware that bugs can and will happen and as much as the community could do good, the risk Fisker takes letting anyone test out the bugs anywhere would be way too high. Also imagine if this allows bad actors to gain knowledge on how to steal these cars
easier to reach under the seat you are sitting in that across the entire car to open a compartment. just because it has been done one way in the past does not make it right..
Jsch... no, it's actually another safety issue with the car. Gloveboxes are designed to be accessable while the driver keeps eyes on the road, and so a peace officer can see the drivers hands when accessing it. Fumbling around under your seat instead is NOT an improvement
@@TopGunZero While i agree in premise, i dont think Fisker was in a position to wait any longer. This may have been their "Hail Mary" and like most Hail Mary's, pass was incomplete.
I feel so bad for the employees of this company like the engineers who actually made a some good aspects of the car but cant see their work come to fruition
'California Mode' has worked since day 1 on my 2006 Saab 9-3. This is not even a new feature. Since I'm still driving my 2006 Saab and have over 214k miles it feels like I now have this new California Mode feature. Yay!
I started shorting Fisker in 2021 when it was around $23. It almost instantly shot up to like $28 on some rumor that Apple was considering them to partner with for the Apple car. I closed my short for a good 20% loss. Now here we are and Fisker is basically worthless. Lol
@@allansmith8643 but thats kinda different tho, something that literally does not exist now anywhere, but getting basic things wrong like bluetooth, UI, speed modes, key fob not working is just shameful, these things have been done so many times so there shouldn't be any excuse really
The day this video came out, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a third investigation against Fisker’s Ocean SUV for doors that won’t open.
In the next software update there will be a Door Delete option , doors pop off and you will get thumbs up from jeep wrangler owners as you drive down the road....🤣🤣😂

The company I work for makes hinges. When the owner started it, they messed up the design of a hinge, which made the cabinet door not close to the end. A disaster given that the company was selling pretty much internationally. The owner decided to own the mistake and sent out technicians to fix and replace all the hinges, almost bankrupting the company in the process. But it passed. And because of that experience, he vowed to focus on quality and design, aiming to be the best. Years later, the company is now the leading cabinet hardware and hinge manufacturer worldwide, known for its quality! Good for Fisker for owning it and trying. Hoping it works out for them.
Your point is the Fisker business model is unhinged? Still repairable? I'm kidding but the EV market competition is going to have many failed businesses. I hope it works out for Fisker too. But, they got a product to market, which in itself is significant, imo. Lots of 'em didn't.
Unfortunately fisker seems to be another cautionary tale. They really did SO much right here. Solid looks, materials, and build quality. Unfortunately they really tried to over-deliver on the tech. If they had stopped at good looks and build quality, used android auto and CarPlay, and kept it affordable, they would have had a genuinely compelling product. But instead they messed with solar panels, custom software, and new safety features. It’s honestly such a shame and is a direct result of salespeople getting their way instead of engineers.
Yep. And as he was talking about how little the solar panels actually contributed... sheesh. All that tech and hardware for something that would make it very expensive to replace/repair if hail or a tree branch cracked the roof.
Salespeople have NOTHING to do with the features that go into the making of a car. This was executive-led "feature bloat" with nobody to tell him stop adding daydreaming the car out of viability.
@kluchakiller Until you realize a full tank of battery costs like $5 to $10. You're trying to get free $10 while at the same time risking repair bill in the thousands when rock flies from semi truck and cracks your solar panel..
From my experience, it’s other way around. Engineers are rarely concerned with profits and product management. They would rather deliver the most advanced tech regardless of actual market viability.
December 2011, Fisker Automotive recalled the first 239 Karmas delivered to the U.S. due to a risk of battery fire caused by coolant leak. Of the 239 cars, less than fifty had been delivered to customers, the rest were in dealerships. In the report filed by Fisker Automotive with the NHTSA, the carmaker said some hose clamps were not properly positioned, which could allow a coolant leak and an electrical short could possibly occur if coolant enters the battery compartment, causing a thermal event within the battery, including a possible fire. In May 2012 a Fisker Karma was involved in a home fire that also burnt two other cars in Fort Bend County, Texas. The chief fire investigator said the Karma was the origin of the fire that spread to the house, but the exact cause is still unknown
Maybe because I'm used to having older cars... the thought of buying a car and it not being fully correct and ready and waiting for an update to solve said shortcomings is an absurd thought. Even the worst automakers still at least finished their cars to a point where they were usable by the time the customer bought it? Weird times.
Its true.. one wonders is there too much use of software in electric cars anyway.. they should should have great "essential" software, and not much else ... nothing wrong with manual controls we are all used to using ..
There’s a difference between doing what Fisker did (releasing a car that’s in “beta”) and charging people for it versus releasing a fully functioning car and the pushing OTA improvements that can add another decade to the car in terms of features. But I agree, I’m a developer and sometimes bugs can slip through so it’s a little crazy (and in this case bugs can be deadly versus a site shutting down).
I dunno what magical time you're referring to but I'm pretty sure a jaunt down Recall lane disproves its existence ;p Cars have always had issues on release, Fisker just takes it to the extreme.
@@antoinkiely7972 Advanced software is not inherent to EVs; EVs are just newer and copying Tesla, which included a lot of modern tech into their cars (something the car industry has been decades behind on). And, no, they definitely don't have too much software. Other cars do not have enough. I have had almost no issues with my Tesla and the few I've had were very minor; far less than the avg car. What I do have is 100x more features, many of which I absolutely love; others I only like ;p And there was definitely a problem with the manual controls we were all using - there were way too many of them and they required looking away from the road. That's why Tesla moved the core controls to 2 contextual scroll-wheel buttons on the wheel, and to voice controls. Much safer, much cleaner.
@dardanm3544 That's probably my other gripe more generally. The average person doesn't want or need any of the "features" they keep touting with most modern cars in general, yet most carmakers are pushing these features anyway (both EV and ICE). Most of the features now don't even have anything to do with driving. Why does a modern car have video games or internet browsing built in now? That's why people are still buying Toyota 4Runners which has been in production since 2010 mostly unchanged, even at insane markups, because it's simple, reliable, and doesn't require people to search google on how to use X, Y and Z. Even the Mitsubishi Mirage, plenty of people buy those because they are simple transportation. That's what's disappeared over the past decade is simple, distraction-free, not-tied-to-some-server-farm-owned-by-XYZ-carmaker transportation. And evidently, a lot of people have been driving their cars for more than a decade and survived without software updates, since the average age of cars on the road is 12.5 years, and I'm sure plenty a lot older than that.
Shame that this company ran out of cash and released the product prematurely. It could have been a great vehicle, but it needed another 6-12 months of testing and refinement before product release.
@@OnceHopefuLmoron, Fisker has brought these cars to the market more than once. The companies failed for a range of reasons including lawsuits from Telsa that bankrupted them previously
I'm not sure I want a car to block driving if the seatbelt is not being used not because I don't want to use it but what if some sensor breaks and the car stops detecting the belt being plugged thus preventing the user from moving?
I can relate to the long bootup -- I put a wireless carplay adapter in my B9 A4 -- and it sometimes takes about a minute to connect. But there's also an occasional Audi MMI bug where the car gets confused after ignition and that sometimes means the rear view camera doesn't come on when you put it in reverse. And a pre-existing carplay bug where it just won't play a track/station/song -- across all apps -- I think it's related to Apple's "now playing" feature, but I've put up with it for years. However, sometimes the "fix" is just to change channel or track -- but sometimes you have to do an MMI full reset -- so it takes a minute too.
I've had my Ocean One since December. It came with software ver 1.10, which got updated to 1.11 a few weeks later and then 2.0 was pushed last week. Both updates were OTA and didn't require any tech to visit/install. Is the software complete? No. Is it better than the older version? Absolutely. The car drives and handles really well and it shows in the build quality. As a One owner, I am realistic about the murky future of this company and have mentally prepared myself for this car possibly turning into an expensive brick at some point in the future. All I can hope is that they are around long enough to push the next few set of updates to make this a more "complete" car. My biggest concern is with lack of support if the company goes under and there are no service or repair options in case of a fender-bender or a cracked windshield. So while I love my Ocean and think it could become a great car someday if the company survives long enough, I can't recommend anyone to buy this car until the company's future is clearer.
If anything keep it as a collectors edition if the company goes belly up. You will eventually get more than what you paid for it. Or atleast your kids or grandkids will, lol
I watched both vids and I got to say that I'm still considering buying this car especially due to its new affordability. Most of that stuff doesn't matter much to me. The Bluetooth was the only real issue for me and I'd have to figure out how to get the 2.0 to get that fixed, but that's about it for me. Repairs if needed might be a little tricky but for 1/2 the price of the cheapest Tesla, I think it's worth the gamble.
The auto e-brake not disengaging when the seatbelt isn't connected is a feature. You can still manually disengage the e-brake, but it doesn't do it automatically if you're not wearing your seltbelt. It's a thing in my Toyota as well
Yeah it seems like a pretty reasonable safety feature honestly. So if you're just sitting in the car getting situated or grabbing stuff before you get out and you accidentally hit the brake pedal the car doesn't start rolling down a hill or something.
Yes and some people don't want to put on seatbelts. Small details like this may nudge them to do it a few more times than they would have otherwise. My old diesel will start screaming at me if I drive more than 20 meters without the belt engaged. This is a useful feature that more cars should have.
In fairness to Fisker, the parking brake feature is more common than you'd think. From personal experience, Toyotas and Hyundais with automatic parking brakes will not disengage them automatically without your seat belt being on, as is the case with other cars I would imagine. On those models, you can override it by manually pushing the parking brake button. I do not know if Fisker included such a button.
The Nissan Rogue works the same way, or at least the 2018 did. AFAIK, it is a safety feature to avoid rollaways. Tesla doesn't do this, but they compensate by being super picky about the seat sensor if the belt isn't engaged.
Besides the bad software, there’s some dubious hardware design decisions. Openable rear quarter glass? Rotatable display screen? Roof solar panels that generate 1 mile per day? These things just add cost and complexity for no real benefit. Designers doing things “because we can” rather than than stopping to ask “why”?
I work in an automotive company, and work with people that are testing the car's software. The issues you are experiencing are issues that are present on the earliest softwares of the system, and in my company we don't release the car or deploy the software until the issues are corrected or are harmless enough for the custom not to be bothered. What Fisker has done would be absolutely unacceptable for my company's standard, and should be unacceptable in general for the automotive industry
So... I own a Renault. And let me tell you about some of his own details.. This is a car from a model that already had 3 years of existence, so plenty of time to fix things. Software wise... The car was advertised with a lot of safty features but that only work in ridiculous set of conditions with no need to doing it so. The blind spot warning only works if I'm driving +70km/h, and when it flashes the car already passed the blind spot and I can see it perfectly. Why on earth this does not work in slower speeds? When I really need this is when I'm driving in the city and similar when the traffic is more intense and I have to be aware of several things at the same time. Why the automatic brakes only work if: A) Adaptive cruise control is set up and on -it only lets me activate it if I'm driving at more than 50km/h B) the car needs to be driving at more than 40km/h or it will STOP the assistance and as a result STOP BRAKING. When it its the 40 mark it will stop doing any brakin! This means that I will always hit the car in front if I don't apply the brakes in the meantime. This is ridiculous. In adaptive cruise control, although it can visualy warn you that has a car in front of you by quite far away it does not slow down the select speed gradually to make the gap, it rather choseses to go until quite close(the limit set) and them applies the brakes at the last second leading to puxes on the seat belt and a subject to being rear-ended by a more distracted driver behind due to the sudden drastic change in speed. I had it start applying the brakes out of nowhere just because it, somehow it believes it has a car in front when it is not there or its has not nearly close enough to do so, and I remind you that he does not brake smoothly... Leaving people behind me almost crashing to me or just thinking I'm an idiot. The car also has automatic park assist, and its just straight up bad sometimes. Once, in a perfect set conditions (new parking lot with all the markings intact and plany of space), it parked the car all crooked, only noticed (i was on a call) when the car next to me needed to get out and couldn't because the way mine was parked completely crooked. The parking sensors have delay and it can straight up miss objets if they are thin enough (like a pole) or in a angle. What led me to charsh the front on to a small wall that was not visible from the interior and only started beeping when the damage was already done. Did the same with a thin wooden pole. The interior The car has a wook, supposedly to put your shopping bags, that straight up is useless as it can't be used when the trunk is closed because its right there were the door closes. Its a 7 seater and I have to crall on to the trunk area to be able to manually pick up the corner of the seat to put the lat row up, or do the same procedure from the passangers seats, there is no strap what so ever to help you with this, such a basic thing, they can be fold using a simple button but is a pain to put them up just because it lacks a simple thing like a strap to pull. No car is perfect, I had 5 cars already, all have had it's issues and annoying things that were badly engineered or made. For a 1rst car generation of a start up this is, somewhat expected to happen, and are plenty of exemples of this stuff happening in cars from manufacturers that should now better already.

There is no way they will survive at a $25 K price point for an electric car, and this will be hell to maintain when there are no parts for it. Just wait for the used model to fall to $10 K or less, if you want to gamble
At least Fisker don't say that they're selling fully self-driving cars. Credit where credit's due. ;-) As to OTA (over the air software updates), I'm getting mine OTG (on the ground) in a couple of weeks, even though it was supposed to update OTA, and I have a VW ID5.

I think M is simply too biased on them since they werent nice to him. You could easily do a quite nice review also these reviews just give only a a decent first impressions only

Once, back in the 80’s, my dad (a black man) opted to go to jail during a traffic stop rather than reach under his seat where he’d temporarily stashed his wallet/ID…of all the decisions he’d made that night, it was prolly the best one. I pray nobody decides to use the under-seat storage for standard glove-compartment fare…hopefully that half-visor is stronger than it looks and can pick up some of the slack for handling routine traffic stops 🤷🏻♀️
In all genuinity, i would love to own this car with all its flaws. lovely color, plush soft interior, looks so good. Software issues sure can be sorted out in coming months.
I test drove an Ocean in the UK a couple of weeks ago, I really like the car and this was after your original review. I didn’t experience the issues highlighted, but whilst the sales guy was demonstrating the swivel screen, it crashed and got stuck in the super useful “diagonal blank screen” mode. They had to switch the car off then on again to reset, which it did. The main thing I didn’t like was the jittery ride which doesn’t expire confidence as the car doesn’t feel at all planted.
Ive had my Fisker Ocean One since Oct 2023. White on white like the one in this video. I love mine! I've never had issues with California mode or windows not working. The only issues ive had are the key fob not working on the 1st try and my vent clicks which is getting replaced soon. Yeah, software is a bit laggy sometimes, but i prefer driving this over my Lexus RX 450h FSport or either of my GT/Roush Mustangs. Btw, you can take the parking brake off by pushing the ((P)) button on the dash without your seatbelt on. It just beeps like any other car without your seatbelt.
I think the biggest issue for people is if the company is going under; Might be a great car but if there is no one to service the car, thats a huge deal breaker.
My wife and I have a Lexus rx450h and an NX. The one thing stopping either of us from alot of EV options we've looked at is the severe (in our/my opinion) drop in interior quality due to cost-cutting measures in EV's most often landing in that department. Just can't imagine being actively annoyed with many otherwise small aspects of a vehicle I drive every day.
The Ioniq 5 does the same thing with the seatbelt and not being able to drive the car, though it's seemingly at random. Also, my 2011 Toyota Prius disengaged the regenerative braking whenever you went over a bump when braking.
I guess I'm just a certified "old" but I don't understand buying a first generation of any product, let alone a car. There are bound to be bugs even in the most well engineered builds. Buying 1st gen from a company in its infancy adds to my apprehension.
Crazy times we live in, I thought I escaped day 1 updates when I stopped gaming. But now we have the automotive industry using the "it'll be in an update" excuse.
I received my 2.0 OS via an OTA (over the air) update. I even asked a service tech before if they were planning to send someone over but they mentioned there was no need since it was being rolled out OTA. There’s a new setting to toggle through for the boot up 24hr, 10 minutes, etc. to get around the seatbelt issue, you’ll have to press on the Parking button on the left near the light switches.
Just curious, what were you thinking? Like literally? If you've gotten the car for free, sure. Did you really, use your brain when buying? Or just jump on the hype train?
I preordered the car back in 2022 & it had all of the looks & features I wanted in my first electric car. I wanted to go with the Rivian but decided on the Fisker based off of their promises (magna build, 360 range, etc.). Surprisingly, my car hasn’t had major issues but the major issue now is the support from Fisker (service, parts, etc.) this is my second car & 4th available vehicle in my house. Wanted to make sure to call out that I’m not invalidating anyone else’s issues because for those owners, their experience sounded horrible (battery, loss of power, hoods flying mid drive, etc.)
@@crimsonstyles Got it, just a brand without any pedigree. Even if I were buying a bicycle from them I would still be careful, not to mention a car. It's good to know you're problem free! Maybe MB got literally a lemon lol.
It was the same story with Henrik Fiskers last car project, the Fisker Karma. The car was beautiful, but unreliable. And the company closed down within a year. When i saw the news about the Fisker Ocean I was very tempted to order one, because the price here in Denmark was really attractive. But knowing that Henrik Fisker was the man behind it, I didnt do it. The Ocean was delayed again and again, but then they proudly annonced that they had delivered it to their first customer. It turned out that their first "customer" was actually a co-founder of Fisker. And regular customers had to wait a few months further... Even though Henrik is from Denmark, just like me, and he has designed nice cars for BMW, Ford, and Aston Martin. I will never trust a thing that man is behind
I’m a IT manager who is often responsible for making buying decisions for a very large company. One of the key considerations for me when looking at niche solutions is to understand the small company strategic vision (go public, get bought, operate profitably, etc) and are they fiscally sound. I never used to worry about that with a car purchase, but now…
Vinfast had made actual hardware changes in addition to software fixes (not sure if it was a direct response to Donut Media, but I think their feedback was taken into consideration). The updated VF8 got decent reviews over the first version.
Seatbelt safety seems like a feature that should be called out . The software is holding it back. Hardware the car does look pretty good. I think the follow up was a good idea. They should have maybe waited a little longer to release the car. Remember Top Gear and the original Tesla Roadster.
This is a very bad feature, yea, I get it, but stuff happens, the sensor on the belt could break, it could be an emergency, the belt could be damaged. Car still needs to drive, belt or no belt. This will inevitably lead to the car getting towed more than once, when it breaks, but the car is perfectly drivable otherwise.
I like the seatbelt thing, tbh. I've said it once and will say it again and again: that should be done more, not less. It is concerning the amount of accidents that have turned fatal because the driver wasn't wearing the seatbelt where I live
I think the solar roof of the car is just meant to keep the battery from draining when parked. Other EV's drain battery to keep the battery pack cool/warm.
It drives me insane that it is now considered normal to release cars full of software bugs and expect the owners to be beta testers. I realise there have always been issues sneak through pre-production testing which crop up with owners but did anyone honestly test the original software before they started selling it?
The thing you said in the end is the most important. If the company is going to cease to exist, nothing else matters. Who in their right mind would spend $50K+ on a car from a company that won’t be around to support it?
@@SchemeTeamSixThe whole point of EV's is that they're live service cars that get better over time. If they company isn't around anymore then there's almost zero point getting an EV. Rather get a Honda or Toyota and get a usable car for 10 if not 20 more years lol
Update: chapter 11 bankruptcy filing as of June 18th. Additionally; the Fisker ocean has its first major recall as the motor control unit and vehicle control unit software has a glitch which needs to be patched with update 2.1. The glitch can lead to a complete loss of motor power regardless of usage (eg while driving) Oh dear.
Okay, firstly. I'm very happy they were willing to work with you again to show the issues were mostly resolved via an update. But as I sat here watching, it dawned on me; how far off in the future would the AF channel becomes a patch notes review channel for these EVs? Because thats what they're basically making you do here. Isn't that what beta testing teams are for? Why must a well known car enthusiast on YT be subjected to public scrutiny regarding stock prices and other bogus claims(ugh, that got me so crossed). Why are they having these issues in the first place? Hey we fixed the walking up to the door bug... ready to review patch notes 2.1? You get my point, right?
@GHOSTSTARSCREAMM Did you miss how fucking pissed they were about his first video? It would have been entirely unsurprising if they simply ignored and blacklisted him out of anger
Thanks Marques for doing another review of the Ocean w/ OceanOS 2.0. It’s amazing that you re-reviewed a vehicle again and it’s not even long term. Thanks for doing that. BTW, always love your videos. I own an Ocean One and managed to get 2.0 OTA without any technician visit and I’d have to say I must be one of the lucky ones as mine has dramatically improved. Other than the random every three days getting the charger port door is open, I’m loving the ride. Very disappointed on the outcome of the company but I’d say there’s so much potential given that other car companies took years to get to a better place. With that said, I’d say you were very fair in your second assessment. Props.
With the company about to go bankrupt, do you still intend to keep the car and if so, how would you go about servicing/maintaining/updating the car? A genuine question
I just sold mine last Thursday. I really liked driving it and it was well built, but didn’t want to stick around with the uncertainty. And by uncertainty i mean Fisker throwing a Hail Mary trying to get investors despite not being able to provide trustworthy financials because they literally lost $ 150M of customer payments. THAT uncertainty. I was never able to get updates but I had a hardware issue that caused other oddities. Those issues seemed unique from other owners. It was eventually fixed in late Feb (I got it in Oct) What pissed me off was the complete runaround. Everyone said it was escalated in my weekly calls to the company, trying hard not to sound scripted. Not once was I able to talk to anyone at a higher level. The ones who provided a number kept leaving. Maybe a coincidence, but it wasn’t until I started speaking up on socials did they come out. So that’s similar to what was said about coming out to update. I signed up knowing there were risks and growing pains, but didn’t sign up for hospice care. Hoping the best for all those who stuck it out, some good people in the FB groups.
@@cb86258 As a guy who is still driving the only new car I ever bought , from way back in 1994, I would Absolutely take one of these for free! problems aside, its a new car with latest tech ,massive power vs my old ride.. heck yeah, I could overlook some issues becuz ive lived a Long time with a car thats had mega issues...the ones mentioned here wouldnt even make a ripple in my coffee.
@@cb86258 new tech, new things there is always first products from a company, I mean someone gotta try them, tbh I would I think if they keep going and fix things they could get far, they have nice design and hardware
I should mention that the 2.0 software does not require a technician to go out to you unless you're in a car that has specific issues related to OTA. Successful updates with 2.0 happen OTA. My car updated over the air. Key fob works every time for me, which it did not use to. I guess Fisker's work needs to focus on the experience differences between their cars. Overall a good car.
I imagine there are a lot of different versions of hardware components in these early cars. I suspect a larger OEM was have scrapped a lot of hardware that ended up being used in production vehicles where it should not have been.
We have four Ocean's on Munich plates sitting for weeks seemingly abandoned on one spot in the forest, in the outskirts of Berlin. Every time I drive by, I wonder what happened to them.
I love my Fisker Ocean Ultra, I’ve had minimal issues (small minor annoyances and alerts) in almost 3 months of ownership. I’ve been on full 2.0 over a month. I really hope fisker stays in business or a large manufacturer buys the company after BK and continues to rollout the software and service and warranty these beautiful vehicles. Thx for the video review redo MK, but u continue to get details wrong tho. I received 1.11 and 2.0 via OTA. So OTA is possible but there were about 500 oceans that needed to have 2.0 manually installed by a tech.
@@bielmelichartes2167 I understand that the Fisker fans on YT can be annoying, but why attempt kick the car owners that actually love their purchases and have shown no animosity towards reviewers?
There is a video out by the guy who loaned his Fisker to MKBHD and in that video Fisker is on the phone with the guy and it is painfully clear that a technician (Senior Tech or something) had to come out and update his vehicle with 2.0. Fisker was not pleased with the review or with MKBHD. I'd link the video but I'm lazy and don't care enough.
Seatbelt and handbrake work together on Mazda CX-30 also. So it`s a feature. Handbrake will automatically disengage only if you have seatbelt on. Without seatbelt you need to manually disengage.
I hope Fisker can pull out of this! quality comp is what this industry needs! It looks decent! As far as MKBHD concern, could be a software toggle. Such a half baked review and I hate it for Fisker..
I agree ... yes fisker did release a car with some software bugs... so they did leave a door open to criticism there.... but the level of negatively and half baked (on purpose?) commentary they received has blown away the door, the hinges and everything..
@@antoinkiely7972 It feels orchestrated almost. I mean Marques seemed upset about the things that they did fix. It's as if it didn't matter what they did. Nothing in his eyes mattered. It was all about the views. Screw all of those people who might be losing their jobs, because I need views... Pathetic. Doug even made a comment about how he didn't agree with MKBHD. LOL I trust the guy who east sleeps and breathes cars, over Marques; a guy who makes "tech" videos but who's about as knowledgable about tech as the average consumer.
Regarding the "feature" of not being able to drive away without the seat belt, my new Chevy Silverado has something similar. It will not allow you to shift into Drive until the seat belt is fastened. However, this applies only after the vehicle is first started. For example, if you've been driving, stop, put the truck into park, get out leaving the truck running, you can then get back in and drive away without fastening the seat belt. Luckily this feature can be disabled in the options.
I'm a FOO owner and my 2.0 software was installed OTA. That boot up issue you speak of Ive Never seen. Hopefully they last because I love the car. It drives beautifully, very solid and fast.
Its on Gisker for not releasing a car that was finished. Its not a video game, its the second most valuable thing, after a house, that anyone will ever buy in their life.
I wonder if they could/would open course the software before going out of business. If they did, one could imagine a storied second life where the community, giddy at the prospect, quickly fixes all the issues and then some and the car becomes a rare, first of it's kind hit. One can dream. I'm sure Fisker owners looking at resale value can dream as well.
I thought that too, but I suspect the NHTSA would have something to say about cars zipping along the road governed by software downloaded off a 13 year old's Github. Still, if the regulators can be persuaded to verify the software then why not? I don't think Fisker will be selling their IP for much, given the state of the software right now!
@@ye73812Yeah, unregulated software running around the street doesn't sound like the best idea. But isn't it basically the same thing with people running conventional cars with modded engines and internals?
I'm not sure about the hangup with the seatbelt feature. There are so many people who drive or ride without seatbelts, which increases the fatality rate not for just you but for other passengers. Is it annoying? probably, but for me, literally every time I sit in a car I'd have to stop myself from putting on the seatbelt since it's so automatic.
It's not a huge deal but there are edge cases where it's useful to be able to drive without a seatbelt, including low speed manoeuvring for eg swapping cars around in a driveway or garage (something Marques is likely to do a lot more given all the car reviews). Plus, the people who choose to drive without a seatbelt are actively avoiding or bypassing those features, and those of us who use one routinely don't require the reminder anyway as you said.
That acceleration issue in earth mode sounds like the work van I've been driving, where it has the power of a _golf cart_ until the turbo spools up at 2,000 RPM or so and it suddenly lurches forward like a sports car.
Lol.. You caused a company to go under.. I'm teasing.. I'm sure it wasn't intentional.. But it's fascinating.. Early days of Yelp I used to comment on restaurants, but then got to a point where restaurants would reach out to me asking me to re-review them, and they'd treat me to a meal.. Happened once, it was more like, "we apologize, this wasn't representative of us and please visit us again on us". After that one free dinner I stopped commenting altogether.. I didn't feel comfortable giving people bad reviews, unless they really deserved it.. Like filthy unfriendly spots, but anything tolerable, I'd just bite my tongue. I always wonder if reviewers ever soften up due to similar experiences. Like boardgame or movie reviewers, once they become popular enough, do they soften their criticism as some sense of loyalty or realizing that their words could bring down a production altogether. I've seen a number of your reviews and find them very insightful and informative. Keep up the great work and I look forward to your next review.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones who got the 2.0 update via OTC and without a Tech visit. I had my Ocean for 3 months now and I can agree with most of the reviews specifically about the key fob and lack of support and service. My car was delivered dirty and scratched and I am still waiting for them to fix the scratches. It is a fun, solid car to drive now that many of the software bugs are fixed but not all. If (big if) they survive, I also would not recommend it until they develop a solid service and support system for car owners.
The boot up is due to the setting the car is at. If you set it to deep sleep after 10 min that does take longer...set it to 24 hours and it boots right up. No you do not need to have a tech come out to have 2.0...over the air worked just fine for me.
The Ultra version doesn't have the taco tray - so more room in the console - and doesn't have the roof solar panels. I like the glass roof better. Thanks for getting Fisker's attention - I hope they are able to fix everything even if in Chapter 11.
Ocean One owner here, and received my 2.0 update OTA, not sure what the "send someone to every car" comment was about. All in all its treated me VERY well. I am aware of the wild inconstancies of experience so far and they def need to tighten that up before its too late (if not already). This 2.0 doesnt fix all, but it proves that things are fixable if the company can hang around long enough to do so.
@@kaaworii Thanks i guess? IDGAF about fisker or tesla or this dude or you. I like the car and HOPE the company doesnt shit the bed (which they are actively doing) im not getting into any fanboy shit on the internet cause i have adult responsibilities.. but unfortunately this guys opinion holds weight for some reason and the rats just follow. whatev, you do you though bra
Well it’s because Fisker called the owner of Fisker, which Marques reviewed previously and told him they are sending “senior engineer” there is a video of the call on RU-vid.
It's akin to the same thing that happened in the video game industry. Before internet enabled updates, companies were forced to flush out their final products before shipping. And because of this, companies were forced to deliver quality. Now that OTA updates are available, the manufacturer feels as though they can deliver a semi-finished product and "just fix it later", while still charging the customer a premium price. New tech, same old problems...
I’m a Fisker Ocean One owner and have had a phenomenal car. Yes the key fob was an issue but there’s been an update to that too that your test vehicle must not have had. I also have already gotten 2.0 over the air with zero problems.
@@catbert7 Im trying to figure out what goes throught people's minds when they post nonsense like this. Does it make you feel better to kick dirt on someone? Are you having a bad day/week/year and are trying to bring other people down with you? Does the thought of other people more successful than you enjoying any part of their lives bother you? I wonder what a therapist would have to tell you.
So something I just thought of with the solar roof. It says it didn't add much, but did it help offset any of the normal drainage from sitting around? So maybe the total added is actually greater than just the added range when you take into account the range other EVs would lose just by sitting around.
Small corrections. Hope it helps. 1) 2.0 is delivered as OTA to thousands of cars. Only a few that are built early on with version prior to 1.09 had to be manually upgraded. Any car with version 1.10 or above will get the OTA over the air. 2) Keyfob is working much better and farther now. Unlocking the car upon apporach was never intended. By design you have to click to unlock. 3) Up on the starting sequence, all the warning lights comes up for a brief second as part of the starting sequence. Its not an error. That is behaviour by design. 4) Boot up time: Its a setting, we can force the car to go to deep sleep as early as 30 seconds or in 24hrs. For normal use, we don't see the boot screen at all as it comes back from stand by in no time. Even from a deep sleep, we can start to drive while the infotainment centter is starting up. Overall 2.0 update is a solid upgrade.
We call this a "solid" upgrade. We're upgrading this sloppy diarrhea shit puddle into a solid, stinky, dense piece of shit. It's still a total piece of shit though!
