Following on from the consumer unit replacement in EP3 my type C RCBOs seem to have gone unnoticed or maybe its not a problem at all?
Let me know i the comments (watch to the end)
I also show the dewalt flexvolt wall chaser and talk through its pros and cons.
Plus the super rod klein giveaway.
Finally our August challenge to raise awareness of mental health and suicide in the UK while raising money for the Samaritans.
Thanks to all who keep watching, really appreciate it.

Monster of a house.. good job mate,.. I particularly like the 450 and 120 heights... unnecessary but looks so much better...😄 My only concern is your use of Bonding plaster to cover your chases,... for several years now ive always used " White, One Coat Plaster "... much the same to mix, but you can almost get a paintable Finnish in very little time, ..and very very easy to work with...... no need to wait for the customer to get a plasterer in,... try it.... You will like.. doesn't react to lime plaster, doesn't crack nor warp... buy a bag tomorrow,... just a tenner.. you will love it....😄

Thanks for watching and the tip! We use easyfill a lot on jobs we are leaving ready for decoration. I think it was in the video series on rewires before this one. Like you say it is so easy to work with and get a good finish. Thanks again for watching and sharing your knowledge. Really appreciate it

Re type B RCBOs. Think you mentioned a workshop in the house. That could have a (single phase) 2hp or in extreme a 3hp induction motor for a large wood lathe or mill. These large induction motors can take in excess of 200A inrush current on startup, starting under load increasing the inrush current duration. If the workshop is on for example, a 16A radial, I think a B type RCBO trip on motor start.
@electrician247
@electrician247 3 года назад
Is very true. Induction motors is a great applocation for c types. But all the circuits? What you saying yes or no?

I've got the battery hoover to match and love the kit. I use the 9amp in hoover and 12amp in the chaser works brilliant
@electrician247

Looking at the hoover. Does it keep up with the chaser well?
@Rad_Dad_Army
@Rad_Dad_Army 3 года назад
@@electrician247 9amp or above anything other like 6amp shite as the battery drains too quick 9amp is good tho. It's good and has Alarm when blocked but it's only for dust. Hoover anything else up will block it. I love it but some may not. Defo give it a try mate

obviously not the recommended way to do it but if you had to use them on circuits that didnt need them and you can keep the Zs low enough then C type breakers will do the job, good video btw
@electrician247
@electrician247 3 года назад
I agree Brian. We do have a few other considerations with cpc sizes and energy let through on twin and earth. Plus with a TT we are never going to have a low Zs, well not low enough. So the L-N fault current path is the one to check. But in reality it will usually be low enough under dead short conditions to operate type b c or d pretty quickly. I thought it would get a discussion going on EP3. But its just me who is boring 🤣. Thanks for watching and the comment, appreciate it.

Interesting video Mark. I’ll be looking into the cordless DeWalt chaser as I already have the kit, just didn’t know the battery life went upto 9aH or even 12 lol. As far as the RCBO’s go you need not have swapped them out for type B’s as you have 30mA additional protection covering you. If you look at NICEIC tech document “Verification of ADS” this will explain into greater depth. Regs 643.7.1 & 643.2.1 are your best friends here to. Did I see a front line time delayed RCD there as a main switch?? That also is a touch overkill as you have used individual RCBO’s you could have placed in a normal main switch 100A.
@electrician247
@electrician247 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it. The C types would likely be fine but its not just about ADS. We have the issue of energy let through with twin and CPC cables. Under certain circumstances it wouldnt work with C types. I covered the S type in episode3. Normally I fit them pre the CU in a plastic enclosure. I also agree its slightly overkill. But is protecting the spd fly leads and rcbo fly leads which are only reinforced single insulated cable. Just my method tho. Thanks again for watching.

For me if final readings ensured thatt the circuit complied and would disconnect under all fault conditions, then C Types wouldn't be an issue.
@electrician247
@electrician247 3 года назад
Is true. Little bit different with twin and earth and the cpc size for energy let through etc. But in most cases on a TT it would be okay. 1mm might be a problem tho.... with a high Zs anyway the type B C D is only really covering a L-N short/persistent overload. So long as L-N loop is low enough as you say. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. Really appreciate that.
@SME_Ste
@SME_Ste 3 года назад
@@electrician247 Hi Mark, very true. On existing circuits it'd be a pain to try and get circuit length to calculate. Brings back memories from the 2396 when working out the design calc for your circuits, having to not only prove the disconnection time is met, but also that the CPC was of a CSA to comply using the adiabatic and then checking the thermal constraints of the CPC under a fault condition.

Great video. Been going through all your videos as I just found you on RU-vid. I always wondered about the Metabo wall chaser blades fitted in other units. I have the Hilti DC SE20 chaser and will definitely try this . Did you have to buy extra packers to space the new blades or does the 3 disc blade come already configured.
@electrician247
@electrician247 2 года назад
Thanks David, it comes as one complete blade. You might need spacers to centre it in your chaser. The dewalt has a few spacers which helped get it central if that makes sense. Brilliant blade tho.

Ep 3 before this was the review of the fusebox Anthony. But in summary for value for money I cant knock it really. We have titans you push and this one you pull. Tbh makes little difference. Just never attempt it the wrong way with the wrong one. Kicks badly.

I'll be honest I clicked this video straight away because I saw the wall chaser I don't know if you reviewsnbut would you do one on the floor volt wall chaser ? I'm a dewalt fan and trainee electrician and I keep Immingham and arring weather or not to splash the cash on one its really expensive but I keep thinking it won't beat 240 Also what vacuum are you using for the attachment?

Yeah it will feature a bit in the next few videos. Its decent though! Festool extractors are hard to beat. But in this case we was using the wrong one as I forgot it.... will get better video of it in use soon. We had the schedule messup on this job due to covid so I didnt record as much as I wanted.

Why do they put stupid symbols on the label, when the fuseboard is aimed at a UK market - simple text would be much easier to read.
