@@nickhodgeUK Hi Nick, yes seemingly there might be a requirement - the only challenge I’ve got is getting hold of one to do the design work on but with an established good reputation I’m very lucky to have kindly people lend me bikes!
@@deverhoffe3457 I don’t think so as they need to loan bikes to make them and the RR is quite rare. You could try emailing them from site though in case
What a refreshing change to see a manufacturer making a very useful quality product and not charging the earth for it and they're British too. Definitely worth having IMO
Hi Nick, just a little thankyou for the Vid. Just fitted the brace to my new Triple Black this morning. Not difficult but having the Vid for reference all helps. 👍🏻
There is now an article in the Ride Magazin of May 2021. Exactly what Nick explains, it’s a protection issue which needs to be addressed by the bike manufacturers. I meanwhile received my own TFT brace, which I ordered at Cymarc, too, and which I installed it on my bike myself. It’s easy to do, especially with the help of Nick’s video. In the Ride Magazin article it furthermore says that BMW stated that their TFTs are coded against a certain bike and do not function on alternative machines. I doubt that. What about needing to install a broken TFT as a spare part. In the article it is also mentioned that TFT theft happens at large scale, so I guess there must be a way to re-pair a TFT to an alternative bike. Anyhow, thanks again Nick for making us aware of this problem!
Thanks Frank. Glad you have some protection. I hear it’s components they are after to build ‘hack’ boxes for bypassing satellite TV subscription. Spoke with my dealer yesterday and they say they’ve had none, but who knows?? Ride safe 👍🏻
@@nickhodgeUK Thanks Nick. You actually inspired us to change our bikes. We have Harleys, but the GS's are due on Wednesday! Be good to extend the riding season!
Hello Nick, also glad to see you back online, i too have just ordered the part after watching your video, thanks for your help late last year with the Denali lights and Innov K2 installation but not yet used in anger thanks to Covid, many more parts added since then and now awaiting lockdown easing and clocks changing to allow the ACF50 to be burnt off and get back out on the roads.
Nice to see and hear from Nick in these Lockdown times. I saw that story, so thank you for this heads up. Stay safe Nick and family. PS. I have placed an order!
Thanks for the video Nick, really good timing as I am expecting mine next week. Also, as you say, it’s great to be able to buy something manufactured in Blighty!
Great to see you back Nick. I haven’t got a TFT on my GSA but my Dad has so I will send him a link to this video. I have recently purchased a twin USB from Nippy Normans and a Din Plug relocation kit due to a previous video. Thank you for your very comprehensive and informative videos.
Thanks for the video Nick. Very clear explained and shown. I also ordered the brace. After more than 1 month waiting it finally arrived (Belgium) and I had an extra unattended invoice of 41EUR to pay to receive my delivery. My first Brexit issue occurred. Extra time and costs due to the border. Unfortunately, web-shopping at UK is not really interesting anymore for us.
Yves. That’s poor as it’s made in the UK it shouldn’t attract any traffic or charges. I get we wanted to leave the EU but it does seem more a problem going in than coming this way. Maybe the EU want to punish to stop others from wanting to leave??? It’s a shame really. Glad you have it and enjoyed video though 👍🏻
Hi Nick, Well, my TFT brace arrived yesterday from Cymarc and I fitted it today. That task would have been a lot more difficult without your great video, so thank you for that. One small thing I think is worth mentioning. As you know the neoprene strips that are supplied with the brace are not the correct width. Instead of applying them to the brace and trimming off the excess with a sharp blade, Stanley knife or similar, I think it is better to pre -cut the strips before applying them. This way you can put the non -cut original side nearest to the screen and you achieve an even neater finish that way. Thanks again, John
Very informative video and I fitted one to a friends GS last week and have one to fit to my new bike when it arrives shortly. I admit I did search for a fitting guide, as the Cymarc instructions aren’t clear. My one reservation is that I am not sure publishing this furthers our efforts to stop them being stolen 🤔
They’re already being stolen. Do you really believe that not showing people how to stop it is better than doing nothing? Criminals do not need to watch RU-vid to learn this surely??
@@nickhodgeUK Your video is well made and intentioned. Cymarc actually mention in their video, not covering the detailed fitting instructions for obvious reasons. My point is not making people aware that they are being stolen, but revealing that you only have 4 x torx bolts to access the Cymarc fitting bolts, that is by no means obvious.
@@inverlane1939 I get it but that’s not true. There are many more tools and the ability/time to remove all that..... or, yank the screen off. It’s naive to think this causes theft/crime. Many years ago. In a different life, I sold a lock pick set (a legitimate locksmiths tool kit) I got criticism from the Sunday Mirror of all things. They asked police for comment and were told “this won’t make any more crime, in our experience no one picks locks except in movies, they use sledge hammers” 👍🏻
Really good to see you back on here. I blame you for my 2019 GS > 2020 GSA change last September. Ironically we were both collecting our new bikes at Oxford on the same day. Keep up the great work. I’m also a big Bumot fan. Thank you and here’s to months of legal riding.
Excellent information and great demonstration... Brilliant to see you back Nick. Looking forward to future content from your awesome channel.. take care.
Received my Cymarc anti-theft TFT bracket and center stand bash plate...quality above the rest...just waiting for new GSA ETA in May...thanks again for the review Nick
Oh dear Nick, I wish that I hadn’t seen this, all I’m doing during this lockdown is buy and fit extras to my F900XR as it sits in the garage. At least I’ll be able to ride it next month to attend a blood donor session at the JR!
Didn't know it was a problem but am researching a new bike and long tour. So very useful info and will likely buy unless BMW fix the issue natively .....
I’m sincerely hoping you do Kieron. Last year was UK restricted for me. If I’m frank, I’d take anything at the moment but somewhere a little more weather reliable would be great. Ride safe 👍🏻
Hi, same for me but I noticed they have an anti-thief for the analog version as well :) here is the link www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk/r1200gs-lc-digital-display-anti-theft-brace-in-black-144-p.asp
Alaways a pleasure to watch your videos, even though this time not applicable to e as I have an "old" R1200GSA from 2015, Looking forward ot your next video; Please ride and stay safe!!!
Nice work Nick my only suggestion put the foam onto the TFT since the face is the softer material then thats the part that should have the tape, the foam can rub on the brace, Carry on, Merlin !
Yes I guess you could. Couple of concerns. 1) covering light sensor 2) I have a speed angel protector so it is protected a bit anyhow. Still valid point though 👍🏻
I travel into London on a regular basis for Bloodrunners, so this is a must. BMW is so worried about this they haven't rectified it for the RT1250 (2021) TFT. So NN came out with an anti-theft bracket.
Hi Mike. It’s a shame but keeps the aftermarket going I guess. Suspect the NN one is made by Cymarc as his only limitation is borrowing a machine to design it. He’s bent over backward to do other models for sure 👍🏻
Had my TFT stolen in central London Literally days before my Cymarc anti theft bracket arrived. :-( Once I spent £1250 for a new TFT I did add further anti theft modifications to the screen and then added the bracket as double protection. There is no way they'd get my screen off even if they cut through the bracket. Thanks for your videos.
Fitted one on my 1250 a few months ago - great bit of kit. A small point but it would be nice if the neoprene strips were the same width as the frame (I trimmed mine back before sticking them on). I really don't understand why bike manufacturers can't foresee this sort of problem and properly secure items on their (our) bikes.
@@nickhodgeUK Just been watching your other videos which I’m thoroughly enjoying. I have the same bike but with black wheels and live in Whiteley. New to a GSA as went from a V4S Ducati. Having similar problems with connectivity, so looking forward to seeing all your future videos.
Thanks Huw. In fairness I’m just happy to have something for content. They sent me the unit but actually happy to promote something British, useful and well made. I told them, and some others I won’t publish anything I’m not happy to have on my own bike 👍🏻
Thanks Nick, mine arrived today from Nippy Normans who I get most of my BMW farkles from and it looks a nice piece of kit. Cymarc supply them and as I already have an account with Nippy it was easier for me to order from them, plus they do free p&p too 👍
Yes peace of mind at a reasonable price, especially compared with the concequences of having one stolen. It's unlikely mine would be stolen but even so I thought it worthwhile and of course if I sell the GS I can either transfer it to the new one or sell it on easily
Great video Nick. I stock a few cymarc parts but I think I’ll start stocking these too. I’ll send my customers to you for the install video. Until I get round to doing my own of course 😀
@@kevinwyatt9771 it’s a delicate balance. My intention was purely to stop someone halfway through a tour finding they had no screen and having to cough up £1,200 or make an insurance claim which costs in the long run. In my experience criminals for this are opportunistic and if you make it as tough as you can they’ll move to easier targets. Will anything stop a determined one? Nope, if they want anything badly enough, it’s there’s and that’s the shame 👍🏻
So far, we do not have that theft problem, but if you keep talking about it, we’ll have ... haha I finally made the move to buy it, hope you have a little $$ from it... thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks for this vid. I had no idea the TFT screens were such a theft target. It just never entered my mind. Thanks for the heads up. I have a 2022 R1250 GSA on order which should be delivered in about 2 months and I will absolutely order one of those guards. K I was wondering if the TFT safety guard/sun hood comes with a protective cover for the TFT screen to prevent scratches? If not, do you recommend one?
I wouldn’t worry with the sun shield one. I have that but it doesn’t add much. I use a speed angel nano glass (premium) screen protector on mine. The brace comes with rubber adhesive cushions to stop vibration/contact but it’s not a tight fit so doesn’t cause issue but I like the comfort of the speed angel screen protection. I use the matt finish but that’s personal choice. Enjoy the bike 👍🏻
Nice one Nick! Thanks for making me now fear my TFT display getting nicked! I’ll have to order one now. 🤨 Looks easy to fit and I suppose the sun screen is a benefit too. Cheers
Hadn't realised that this was a thing, but looks to be a great solution - thanks Nick and good to see you back. Slight aside, which headlight guard did you go for?
Always some 🤷♂️. There has been one opinion in comments that it’s encouraging theft. I don’t see it that way and hope they move on when we all have braces. Much of this is opportunistic I feel. Thanks for you comment 👍🏻
Thanks Mike. Sometimes outdoors you know there’s been a gust of wind or the noise of the city around me and your head is saying “damn you”. The viewer doesn’t hear that but maybe that’s the apology trigger 👍🏻
Great vid , hoping to purchase a 1250 GSA within weeks, I dont know if we have that theft problem in northern Spain but still to be safe and sure great idea, ( I may get charged import rate to spain form UK
Hi Nick, I’m new to the channel and have subscribed after watching a few videos. I’m collecting my first ever GS on Friday. I’ve opted for the Triple Black and will be part chopping my S1000XR in. Having seen this video I’ve just purchased the TFT bracket from Cymarc. Great videos, keep em coming👍
Thanks Nick, appreciate your videos a lot, they are very helpful. I also bought the anti-theft TFT brace, hope it arrives here in Switzerland soon. May I ask what type of LED front light protection glass you are using?
Thanks Frank and sure. Another British Supplier here www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-R1250GS-GSA-LC-2018-21-Headlight-Guard-With-Personalised-Engraving-/233159607471?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
If the sun is over my shoulder it’s ooor come what may. By preference I would have the one without I suppose. I have a gloss tempered glass speed angel protector on too but on my GS I had a ‘matt’ one and that was no better. Think if it was a little flatter (the TFT) it may be better 👍🏻
@@nickhodgeUK thanks for the reply Nick. Also interesting what you say about the matt protector not cutting the glare any better than the gloss one. Your vids have pretty much become my one stop shop for farkles on my first GS that i pulled the trigger on yesterday. :-) Thanks.
Hi Nick, When I look at your finished pictures.....Do the neoprene strips look a bit crude when the unit is fitted, creating a void at the corners and making the unit sitting out proud of the TFT, as such? Also ,is the Cymarc bike parts branding on the lower frame of the unit just a sticker ,that can be removed? Thanks for your thoughts on this.
Hi John. It doesn’t fit flush and it think that’s good. The fact BMW mount it on rubber mounts would say to me they want to stop vibration. Certainly the functionality seems good and yes, it’s an ezy-peel sticker 👍🏻
Really good video. I’ve got the identical model as you so will be making a purchase soon, although maybe it’s a problem that BMW should be addressing and picking up the cost!!
I have the strengthening brackets as I installed the the larger Puig screen. I'm assuming they attach the the same double nuts on each side. Do you have any idea if it will fit?
hi nick my name is ross I am purchasing the new r1250 rt sport 2021 im wondering if that British company will at some point create a brace for the new rt. ???. love your vids
@@rangeroverrossco2742 Just a quick update. They are more than happy but need to see a bike to make measurements and such. If you want a free one make your first ride one to them 🤣👍🏻
Hi Nick, good information in the video, hadn't seen the article. Got my new gsa last Saturday, and still spending money on the after market bits so this looks like a must purchase, do you have a screen protector on the tft before fitting, if not do you think the bracket would still fit with the added screen protector?
I think you got triple the amount of neoprene strip than I did….. the brace doesn’t sit flush against the TFT. Not sure if it needs to. Also the windscreen adjustment knob is more in the way of one of the bolts than the video demonstrates but great video and better than the supplied instructions.
Hi Phil. Favouritism I guess 🤣. Fitted a mates yesterday and he cut his lengthways in half. It’s only there to stop vibration and it’s not important for it to contact. Mine doesn’t. 👍🏻
I’ve just purchased one ! Amazing thanks for the video made my life easier 😂 one question please do you know where I can buy a decent ppf side tank protection ? Couldn’t find you on instagram . Cheers mate
Hi Ranieri. I don’t have personal experience of tank pads but try looking at the Wunderlich site. I’m on Instagram but not very active. It’s just my name on insta 👍🏻
Nice video, very informative. Been having my 1200 now for over a week and just spend a small fortune on a Roadlok 😄 but this one will definitely be coming on the bike also. Don’t now if Cymarc delivers to the Netherlands but Touratech will do the job on the continent. Does the sun blocker serve its purpose by the way?
Well firstly, great to see another vid of yours Nick. Not seen one for a while. Brilliant job. Ok so hang on. People are stealing TFT's ? Why? What are they going to do with them? Who would by one? I don't understand that. The part your fitting looks great though so I'll be getting the same one I think with the sun visor. I think it looks finished off better than just the TFT on its own anyway. Do you have a screen protector on yours as it looks different to mine. Are you going to the Adventure Bike Festival? (All going well). If so I'll keep my eye out for you. Keep up the good work.
Offers peace of mind. My first thought was why??? Apparently (as with car fitted sat navs) they have a component within that makes a satellite TV subscription bypass box and as we know that can be £100pm!!! I do have a speed angel glass screen protector (gloss) from Amazon (cheapest) 👍🏻
Thanks for posting this Nick. I was wondering whether this security bracket is compatible with the screen anti wobble brackets? I agree with you about the use of torx heads. Torx head screws are readily available in these sizes and are more secure...probably! All the best, Nick
Thanks Nick. I don’t know if it works with the anti-wobble bracket. Is that the Wunderlich one of Cymarc’s? I’m sure if you asked on the website they’d help 👍🏻
Looks really good...unfortunately they don't appear to do one for the f850 or f750 currently only the 850GSA. Hopefully this might be in the pipeline 🤷♂️👍
Hi Nick Sorry to trouble you but just a question about software updates know in the past you’ve had problems as I have, my bike 1250gs 2019 has had 3 software updates and different problems raise there heads latest being engine cutting out on 2 occasions and display faults not being there directly after an update, what’s your take on this. Faulty ECU ? I’m not happy with this, not long before out of warranty!
Stuart. I’ve had nothing that drastic. Mine have been connection issues to the TFT mainly but for sure other equipment on the bike has been updated at the same time. You need to lean on the dealer and get stuff changed and tested. Intermittent faults are always a pain. Stupidly it would be good if whatever it is failed fully so they could know it was fixed but they need to get it fixed for sure Ride safe 👍🏻
@@nickhodgeUK thanks for that Nick, I’m just concerned about the engine cutting out...could be quite dangerous if I were on a smart motorway. Its booked in Williams Mottorad on Wednesday.
@@kevinwyatt9771 maybe that too but not sure if older 1200’s would have wiring and/or mounting bracket/fittings. Like to think other GS owners would ask more questions if buying a cheap TFT on eBay
