Fitting HEL ABS Brake Lines to an MT-07

It's been a few years since the brake fluid has been changed, and you're supposed to replace rubber lines every four years, so I took the opportunity to fit stainless steel HEL hoses to Dennis. These will never need to be replaced. Some ABS systems are more of a faff to bleed, but with Yamaha you bleed the brakes just as you would normally. It was all fairly straightforward to do, but I noticed there didn't seem to be any videos out there of someone fitting ABS brake lines to an MT-07, so I figured I'd make one. Hopefully someone out there in the internets will find this useful.

your channel is so awesome. very helpfull video. a little tip: when you're specifying something (like for example the brand of the steel brake lines and the oxford bleed kit) it would be nice to link the products in the description :) easier for newbies (like me) to follow up :) thanks for the video and good luck :)

Hello, thanks for the wonderful comments! I do normally leave links in the description, but somehow forgot to do it on this video - I'll update it, thanks for the heads up :)

Great video, probably good reference for XSR700. MY Experience of using a vacuum bleeder is that it draws air down the outside of the threads of the bleed nipple instead of pulling the fluid fron the reservoir, making you feel like you have masses of air in the system. Opening the bleed nipple, and leeting the fluid self prime through a tube to start with gives a head start and then continuing with the open nipple and compress lever, close nipple sequence always seems to work best for me. Looks like you did a great job fitting the lines, how did the brakes feel after the conversion?

Hello - thanks for the helpful comment! I recently got hold of a mityvac so I'll be testing it out soon. Actually, the difference wasn't as noticeable as I'd hoped - perhaps thanks to the ABS system and sheer volume of hoses. Definitely improved but not night and day.

This was a really good walk through. Quick question. How did your ABS behave after? I've seen people on about getting the ABS "reprimed". but i don't know if this is a load of nonsense.

thanks! I looked into it a lot before replacing the lines - I believe certain brands such as BMW require you to cycle the ABS pump when you fit new lines, everything I found regarding Yamaha says you don't have to. I assume it depends on the type of system/make you have. The ABS is functioning normally, light comes on when the bike is started and goes off after a few seconds of riding as it did previously.

Hi mate. Question. The thread should be 10*1.25 from the banjo side. What about the connector between the hard and soft lines? I have to replace the front line (from the front pump till the hard line connector which goes straight to the abs cpu). So from one hand should be banjo and from the other side should be a female thread but I don't know which one

From memory, there are only hard lines on the rear (7:43 ish in my video) if you have the ABS model, like mine. If you are only replacing the front lines, you should have two lines which go to the ABS pump, they have banjos on both ends. In the kit I got from HEL, they had a special block connector on the hose that was threaded to accept the hard line. I hope that helps!

I'm thinking fit the brade hose in my yamaha tracer 900,2015 ABS.. I got information from the company saying doesn't need setup the ABS in my bike... I bealive could be very similar the installation.

From the information I could find online, fitting new brake lines to any Yamaha models with ABS should be the same as this...good luck!

Any improvement in braking you could notice ?
@thebikenoob
@thebikenoob 2 года назад
it's definitely an improvement - I wouldn't say it's as drastic as I'd expected, perhaps due to retaining the ABS. Definitely a lot sharper when you grab a fistful of brake though! I had already upgraded the pads to sintered EBC's, which have much better feel than the stock pads
