Fix: “The File Has an Unsupported Compression Type” Premiere Pro

In OBS you can change the settings and choose what type of file your videos will be saved as. I changed mine to mp4 because mp4 is just superior above all

Guys if you recorded with OBS, skip to 2:36. I completely forgot about this option which is a phenomal feature for a free professional software like OBS, truly it's a masterpiece of software. Thank you man, you saved my 50min of recorded gameplay!

If you record on OBS you can also remux your recording by going to file, and remux recording which will provide a supported format.

This (clearing the whole cache) worked for me! Thanks so much! FWIW, in the version I'm using, "Media Cache" is in the 'Premiere Pro' menu > 'Settings' > 'Media Cache' (Premiere Pro 2024, v. 24.0.0)

USUALLY WOULDN'T COMMENT BUT YOU SAVED ME WITH THE SHUTTER APPLICATION METHOD FROM ALL OF THE MENTIONED!!

This simplest solution for me was his second: moving the file location to another folder. Worked immediately. Cheers.

Thank you. Cache cleaning didn't help in my case (Premiere Pro v24 beta). It just freezes every time. I had to rename the file extension and it worked! I think it happens when you stop recording and then turn off your camera immediately. It doesn't let the camera add additional codec info or smth. There were people complaining about this issue on Facebook. I am using Sony FX30 / XAVC HS 4K / S-Cinetone.

It's legit way use the shutter encoder. But Below 2k & 4k videos . I Use the capcut for cut video and convert video also. Then upload to premiere pro.

Renaming the file name fixed it for me! Thank you!

This worked for me. Thank you! For me some media that worked before was offline even though the files were still in the same location as before. Linking didn't work and trying to import them again gave this error message.

None of these are working and when i use the shutter app it goies on the time line but all the audio comes in and out and it drops massive frames

DNxHD works but the converted file size occupies huge space for example i selected a 300 mb file and now it gets converted into 34.9gb size is there any way to prevent this ?

Cleared cache and didn't work. Went through all of my video files dragging them in one by one because some were supported some were not, (even thought they were all mp4). For all the clips that would not be supported, I moved them to new separate folder, retried dragging the unsupported clips and it worked.

The only way to import an unsupported file type into Adobe is to convert it. You could have said that in 30 second or less. Changed the file extension may work on some files but very few.
