One of my screws broke off and the other was finger loose, so I unscrewed the broken one with a pair of pliers and replaced it with a zip tie as a temporary fix (at least to get me out of the parking lot, lol.) Worked like a charm. It also fixed my park-but-actually-in-neutral issue. Thanks!
Thank you Bob I am 74 years old and you showed me how to fix my stick shifter It lost a screw and my son but one in but it kept coming out now I see what he did wrong I love my big red truck thanks
Excellent video Bob, replacing the shifter bushings can help a lot too, I did so on my ‘99 Ranger awhile back & it’s held up well. But yeah, this is a massive & very common issue on many Ford vehicles of this era that use this shifter “system.” I’ve seen so many Ford trucks, cars & vans that use it have loose/sloppy shifters & then have the gear indicator needle way off from where it should be, or even broken since the crappy cheap plastic bracket often tends to break. I think this should’ve all been a definite recall since it’s been so prevalent over the years.
😎 in the old days we used aqua net, for lock tight. Now days, If you dont have lock tight use some hair gel, or spray paint, or finger nail polish, brush it on, it's a bit more neater.
Hahah thanks for the vid. I was sitting in the Jack in the box drive thru when a bolt fell on my foot, so I went to throw her in PARK and the shifter only went to REVERSE AND I almost backed up into the chick behind me.
Good one. I have that exact problem and will check. I have a feeling that loose shifter might be behind the parking pawl issue I am having. Truck rolling in P. Or maybe its not actually getting in P because of shifter?
On my truck, The metal piece where the bracket sits onto cracked where one of the bolts go. I have no idea how to get that fixed or replaced. Does anybody know?
I used the screws that came with the truck. Any type screw will work as long as they are the correct size. They can be purchased at almost any hardware store if you don’t have the originals. I would just call them screws or maybe bolts? Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
you probably found them already but on mine they are behind the collum at the top its hard too see because its behind you can also jiggle the shifter and should be able to find it that way
