Appreciate this video! I had to replace my toilet today (first time every doing this) and my closet flange was too high. Unfortunately, after I cut it off, i realized the existing concrete subfloor was chipped away quite a bit where the concrete fasteners were supposed to go, making the ones I bought too short to reach it. I suppose the proper way would be to pour a little bit of concrete, let it cure, and drill into the new material. However, I simply bought longer fasteners and was able to screw the flange in just fine. Glad I found your video - I didn't know about the twist-n-set flanges. It worked like a charm!

Two story townhome built by lennar homes. Bottom half bath had flange above tile floor. Toto Drake II toilet didn't like it. Then I discovered the flange wasn't screwed into ground, it was glued instead into the other pipe. Had to resort to using a glue gun and then pried it off. House projects never seem to go easy peasy and ends up being an all day learning experience.

Project completed, but considering some tweaks, like aligning the toilet better. Ended 2023 with a face full of tile dust. 🎉 Wrestling with my new Toto toilet made for an unexpected adventure. Dealing with a stubborn flange glued to the sewer pipe led to using a heat gun, saw, and creating a tile dust tornado - who knew plumbing could be so entertaining? 😅 My home projects always seem to involve multiple trips to Home Depot. Don't know what I would do without RU-vid to guide me. I used a leveler out of curiosity and noticed the tile floor wasn't perfectly level. Managed to remove the old flange with a heat gun, used a grinder to trim tiles, and a Dremel to cut away the inner sewer pipe. Though I didn't get the inner pipe perfectly flush with the surrounding tile, it seemed to pass the test. No wobbly toilet, securely fastened to the floor. Opted for 'Fluidmaster Better Than Wax' instead of a messy wax gasket; time will tell how it holds up. Previously used Danco Perfect Seal Toilet Wax Ring for another toilet replacement upstairs, where the flange was below the tile. It included a wax ring and was more forgiving than standard wax rings. One more toilet to replace in my kids' bathroom upstairs.

I'm working with a 45 year old flange that will not budge. The flange sat about 1/2" above the subfloor (the builder cut a big square hole and put down the carpet, then put flange on top of carpet anchoring it to nothing.) After 2 days of using 2 different hack saws and a sawzall I have most of the flange down to the level of the pipe which is about an inch below the subfloor. I have made several vertical cuts but whatever was used to glue in that flange is not budging. Any suggestions?

carpet... in a bathroom? gross. Cast iron drain? it's probably leaded in. just have to grind it away. Easier to just use a retrofit fix a flange device.
