Thanks Mike .Keep it simple stupid is all very well , but new parts are always trusted to be good. Then you experience the opposite. Kin ell . Had spark plugs , brand new , fail . Test, test , and do not assume ! As soon as you assume you will be down the rabbit hole and the mad hatter will call ! I love how you work things out and how you show us your thinking ; bloody computers ! This is from an IBM mainframe expert ! Lol . Keep it simple when at possible is my way of thinking . Bless

by 94 hard dash sat for a good while whilst I was confused. It turned out that when the fuel pump broke it melted the wire between the inertia switch and the fuel pump. I remember finding a forum thread where it was said that this is a common occurrence on the early 94 cars.

Don’t feel bad. I put in a brand new master cylinder in my ninety and it was buggered out of the box as well. Sounds like one helluva vacuum leak. But it’s running now. No small feat

In the past I have worked a several main dealers, and you start to think that that particular marque is the worlds most unreliable, but all cars & truck break down, otherwise I would have been out of work most of my life, so keep your chin up😁

Fix one problem and on to the next. Likely needs the air leak sorting then a proper good warming up and it might come good.

The only time I used fuel treatment was on a fuel-injected motorcycle. It wasn't the beginning of season, but was lagging off-idle. Maybe you've got a combination of carbon hammers.

I had an old ‘89 RR once that used to shut itself off at traffic lights. Everybody scratched their head and gave advice etc etc. The engine would crank perfectly but not fire just like yours. When you came back and said you spent 7 hours fault finding. I spoke to you through the screen, as you do, and told you, Mike, that it was the fuel sender. Sure enough you found that out. I’m going to take it as a warning now and buy a replacement fuel sender as a spare for my Disco 2. (I will test it first before storage). 👍🏻🙏🦘

Well done for persevering with the RR. What a carry-on. I have no doubt the fuel pump had no connection to the peoples republic........

That misfire might be down to old HT leads. It'll sound nice when you get it to see sense and behave itself.

New NGK leads (but that means nothing these days)

There would be a voltage sense circuit that's connected to the check engine light, that senses when the light circuit is short circuit, open or on. Hence, the ECU can throw a code when there's a fault. I think that's why 12V is connected to one side of the light. Alternately, a current sense circuit. I haven't seen the internal of an ECU but that would be my guess. I don't know about cruise control on a 300TDI with an EDC injector pump (IP) but a non EDC IP can have cruise control (CC). The CC module drives a vacuum pump with a solenoid open to atmosphere, it feeds vacuum to a diaphragm that's attached to a cable through a lever. The cable is attached directly to the accelerator. Good going with the fuel pump problem and thank goodness for warm weather. Sometimes you need someone else to talk things through with a problem, so Kurtis to the rescue.

I know from past experiences with ECU's, they ground via the ECU - however, the wires that go to the ECU are colour coded the same as a 'live' wire - otherwise they would be mostly black wires and a bugger to trace!
@ianhellyer1473
@ianhellyer1473 2 года назад
@@BritannicaRestorations Same colour wiring. That reminds me of a machine I was working on many years ago where all the wires were white with a teflon like insulation. The plating on the wires was non corrosive.

I seem to recall working on a French car, early 80s wires just the basic colours but with numbers on the ends - that was interesting

25 deg C is like the height of summer here never mind spring. Quite a quick temperature increase over there! So JP's neighbour is doing your drawings these days eh! I know where I stand 😁Great that you got the car running. What a mess about with the fuel pump especially it being new too.
@BritannicaRestorations

I asked his to draw that part as there were some complex angles I could not measure! Don't worry, still doing the gearbox tools!

They once made an adaptor plate for me for an LT230 - they photographed the face - fed it into the computer and took some measurements of holes for reference - came out perfect - even the dowels lined up 100% Blown away with that!

G'day Mike. Great series on the old 'Rangy'. Looking at an old P38 to add to my D1's lol. Now about the D1 aircon pump, is it possible to replace the bearings? Or am i up for a new unit? I use mine as a compressor and was negligent on the oiling... my bad. It still pumps great, just squeals like a satisfied.... well you get the idea lol. Great vid as always.

Well, I found the pump problem, and it was not what you would have expected! But I have never repaired an A/C pump as parts are quite hard to find
@lr_discostu
@lr_discostu 2 года назад
I ordered a brand new pump from lrdirect and the pump polarity was the wrong way around. You could hear the pump coming on but there was no pressure. Our assumption that a brand new part from a known supplier would be fit for purpose cost us a couple of hours of debugging.

When looking for an air/vacuum leak on an old BMW M5.... we ended up with searching with an Oxy-acetylene torch.. no flame just acetylene, when a leak was found the engine note changed as the gas was sniffed in..

Seems more accurate than just spraying petrol. Another application maybe for my trusty gas blow lamp and a length of hose pipe.
