Fixed the 2JZ E36 then Immediately Broke it!

We did a whole bunch of troubleshooting in this video and finally figured out the main issue with the 2JZ E36! Also did a boost leak test and built the exhaust. Then took it for a test drive and accidentally hit 20psi of boost! Oops haha

Great problem solving man! I’m about to 2j swap an 82’ celica gts I just picked up for $600 with a w58 🤩 and I got a 2jz-ge vvti for $800.... I’m speechlessly stoked and these videos are so informative I feel so confident attacking my first swap thanks to you 🙏🏽

I just finished watching your whole series bro. Definitely got me feeling more confident about my build. I’ve been stock piling parts for my 1.5jz build that will eventually go in my e46. Just taking it slow. Parts come somewhat easy for me because I’m a Toyota technician lol but it’s all about getting it to work in this bmw. Great videos man.

really great work.. in my 1jz cressida and had the same issue and did the wiring from beginning as im using the 2jz ecu in my 1jz i found that the wiring is for the other maf sensor and i just had to flip the pins + did the obd port wiring which reminded me that i forgot to plug the knock sensors... shout out to wilbo666 "you made our life less miserable" LOL

Haha for sure. What do you mean about plugging the knock sensors? I think I may be having an issue with mine

after i finished wiring i plugged the obd scanner and from it i found a code related to the knock sensor 2 which reminded me that i forgot to plug it.. i would highly recommend people to wire the obd port as it will help you diagnose problems easly

Im thinking I am going to go the 2J NAT build route with the 71 Datsun 240z I have been working on in my garage. The swap is a long way off though. I perdict I am going to be on the rust repair and chassis stiffening portion of the build for the better part of this year.

@@Teysik Currently am waiting for a rear sump jz block from a junkyard so I can have my current na one for fun and then build the junkyard one w non vvti rods+pistons.

You can run a max of 7-8psi on vvti internals but even that is still risky

So you are running the aristo ecu with stock 440cc injectors?

I’m running replacement oside tiger 440cc injectors, but yes

@@Teysik Ah ok. I am running a similar setup as yours, 2JZ VVTI Aristo Engine in an E36 with stock ECU with BW S257 on the original 440cc injectors. Works fine, the only thing is that it sometimes turns off if you press the clutch after building boost. Might have to do with not running a bov. Does your do this too?

@@GTO2800 mine will die if you push in the clutch at high rpm or slow down really fast and push in the clutch. I’m assuming it’s because I don’t have any type of idle air control. I’m hoping the electronic throttle body will fix that. I’m assuming you’re running a map sensor as well?

@@Teysik I use the original map sensor with boost cut defencer and electronic throttle body. The idle is really low once warmed up, like 500-600
