So, you've bought yourself a new to you GMT800 Chevy or GMC truck, and you need to fix up some of the issues on the interior? Well, today we cover five of the most common interior fixes I have to do on EVERY GMT800 truck I've ever owner. This ranges from the power seat tracks being loose, water leaks, problems with the radio, and a whole lot more. I wanted to get these things taken care of before I go on to modify the truck so we have a good blank canvas to work from, and now that my Stepside Silverado is all up to snuff, we can begin the upgrade and modification process, which will start with the Suspension, and of course, some horsepower upgrades.
Parts Used in Today's Video:
GM Genuine Antenna Base, only $16
amzn.to/3sESeOQ
13" Radio Antenna with Adapter, $25 (fits OK, good reception)
amzn.to/3gnMogd
7 Knobs for Stock Radio (volume, tune, bass, trebel) $24
amzn.to/383NU2l
GM Genuine Ambient Light Sensor, $18
amzn.to/3gk4vmT
Seat Adjuster Repair Kit, $15
amzn.to/3ze1Jao
Not shown, but I also upgraded the speakers since the stock ones were blown...
6.5" JBL Speakers for front door, only $34 and sound pretty good
amzn.to/2UByKy8
4x6 speakers for B Pillars, havent installed yet, but only $35

Nice fixes. My top five when owning two 2006 Silverados were 1. Steering shaft bearing (fixes clunking under steering wheel) 2. Knock sensors 3. Service air bag front impact sensors 4. Lifters ticking ( used Lucas oil stabilizer worked for me) 5. Shocks

Best mod I ever did on my 01 Silverado (aside from tighting the torsion arms to tighten up the front end) was to swap in PIAA bulbs in the high and low beams. Made a world of difference especially where I live well out in the deer-infested country.

My dad had the heater core replaced in his 04, and they forgot that little light sensor when putting it back together. So his lights were always on, day or night. I decided one day to fiddle with it and actually managed to fish it up into it's hole with a thin piece of wire, a small pair of needle nose pliers, and a pocket screwdriver. I hooked it with the wire, pulled it up into the hole, then carefully held it in place with the pliers while I used the screwdriver to twist it into the locked-in position. It took multiple attempts, and I probably should've just went in through the radio opening, but I got it.

Hey again LT, great video! Very professional as always. I will suggest taking a look at your speakers if they are original. I own a 2001 Sierra ext. cab and my speakers were all shot even though they were emitting sound haha. I have a '99 Silverado 4x4 that gets beaten on a daily basis. It now has 227,000 hard miles on it. The only problems I have had are the typical rusty rockers and cab corners, and of course the brake lines from living in the rust belt. I've replaced both window regulators at least twice. The door hinge bushings go bad every 3 years. The sun gear shell broke in the transmission (very common), then a month later the low reverse planetary exploded (probably my fault). I put a posi unit in it years ago, and haven't touched the rearend since, but I have replaced several bearing sets in other trucks. The transfer case has never been touched, nor the front differential. I replace the rear u-joint about once a year, and I have replaced both front hubs twice. I can't keep brakes on the truck, it likes to eat the rotors. One of the heater hose couplers broke while going down the road, that was fun. I bypassed the heater core and drove on. I've put 2 water pumps on it, and changed the sparkplugs 10 years ago, and replaced one fuel pressure regulator. Other than that, the engine has never been apart. I love my truck!

Get iss cluster got mine in blue led love it and no core charge hassles. If you send your cluster back within 30 days you get lifetime warranty and if you don’t you get 1 or 2 year warranty if I remember right. Even if your cluster is not repairable no core hassle. Mine had od off indicator not working and they sent me a new one cause I mentioned it when they called to see if I liked my new one. I told them I wanted to wait to see if I liked it before replacing and 24 hrs later a new one was at my door. Great customer service. I have the 8.1 allison combo and I think I got cluster done for 6.0 truck first from them because that light wouldn’t come on at start up. But I love mine. Just bought a 2001 1500HD beautiful truck but rusty rockers, and frame is ugly, sounds like a big job but if it was a Duramax and needed work you would pull the cab, so I'm going to pull the cab and box and sand blast and paint frame, do brake lines, fuel lines, rebuild the front suspension and brakes, rebuild the front end and reassemble, the rockers are soft on my truck, going to use panel bond and replace them, no welding as it burns the paint off the back side of things, stay strong

I have a 2002 chevy 1500, gladly i'm only dealing with the ambient light sensor, as well as some exterior stuff. but its been driving me nuts that the headlights stay on all the time. I put LEDs in when i bought the truck in jan 2019, lights started stating on, in about feb of 2020. since then drls have only come on about 10 times, couldn't really find a solution or a cause really. The trick of pushing the dome light button to override doesn't work on mine, i think since its the Canadian version. I figured to pull the top of the dash, check power/ground and was going to replace the sensor anyway since i was there, this really helps. I have big hands so no going behind the radio, i have a JVC in there and its a tight fit, had to tap the holder in it was so tight, and i'm sure its not even clipped into the dash, just stays cause its so tight.

Just went through this with my 08 GMC.... I pulled the interior out. Seats and all... front and back. Up at the fire wall I put wood to pull the plastic out and a blower fan had the foam dry in a hour (warm day). The wet padding soaked up to the firewall and made that foam like a sponge. The padding dried out (put it in the on the hot concrete driveway in the sun for a day). I cleaned out the inside of the truck and dried out. The doors open for a good 100 degree day. The issue was my 3rd brake light. Cracked and letting water in. New light and gasket. Also, the flaps on the back cab corners were gone and the rubber that was left was gummy. Replaced those and its dry. I sprayed out the carpet with a pressure washer and let it dry as well. Cleaned it inside and is smells great! If you have a truck that is 10 years old replace the vents, light, and foam.

Good basic quality of drive (life?) improvements. Quick tip when dealing with those rubber grommets, use some undiluted dish soap concentrate (Dawn) to lubricate the end that your feeding through the metal or plastic cut out. Then twist back and forth while pushing and, eventually it will work its way through. Also, sometimes a smaller gauge stranded electrical (like 14 or 16 AWG) wire works better as a wire fish than string. Less prone to snagging or breaking.

Kind of a crazy idea for the antenna cable grommet, using a fuel line disconnect tool to apply pressure on it to set the grommet?

Build suggestion: A Full-size Syclone. Add AWD tc, manual trans, lower it a bit, and of course add Turbo. How sweet would that be? :)

One thing I’ve done before is remove the handle and take a torch and heat/kinda melt the center plastic bushing to let the little arms retract easier

Another annoying issue is the daytime running lights burning out. A lot of people switch to LED, but I did not like that look for DRL. If you use bulb 4114, the sockets will not melt from overheating. Many people use 3057 bulbs for the DRL which run too hot and cause socket melting and poor bulb life.

Have you had any problems with the pitman arm/ idler arms? I've been contemplating replacing myne by myself since the shops where I live want just shy of $1,000 to replace the pitman arm and idler arm.

Everytime I buy one of these trucks I always replace the 3rd brake light with an LED for the fright cargo light and the courtesy lights in the door panel it's less than 100 bucks and makes a huge difference every cab vent also always leaks on me too lol

Chevy trucks always have water leaking in the cab issues. I bought a new 2010 Silverado LT, it leaked like crazy. I toolkit back to the dealership 12 times, they said it wasn't leaking. I pulled Bach the carpet, and soaked up a beach towel full of water, then showed the repair shop foreman. All he said was" what do you want me to do"? I said~ Fix it. It's still under warranty. It leaked water until the day I sold it.

i disabled the auto lights in mines. My assigned parking spot meant my lights were aimed right into the 1st floor neighbors bedroom. Every morning going to work as soon as I started the truck it would light up their bedroom. Rude. So I disabled it. Also disabled the DRLs because it makes it look crosseyed when it's coming toward you. Ugly.

I had a 2002 Silverado WT 2WD with a five speed and 4.3 V6. I had the following failures: *Catalytic converters failed just before 60,000 miles and again at 150,000 miles *Intake manifold leak that let coolant into my oil at about 100K. *Front hubs replaced twice at around 70 and 140,000 miles. Front wheel bearings can't be serviced, and when they wear slightly the ABS triggers with no wheel slip on low speed stops. *All fuel and brake lines rusted. *Plastic filler neck wore out and caused a leak in the evap system. *Brake calipers replaced multiple times after the pistons seized in the bores. *Multiple plastic timing covers replaced to stop front main seal leaks; it never stayed fixed for long. *Noisy serpentine belt; switching from OEM to Goodyear Gatorback belts finally fixed it. *All radio lights and multiple dash lights blew out. The bulbs are soldered in and not easily replaceable. *The rear bumper rusted through. *The tailgate fell open because it wouldn't stay latched. Whenever I see one of these trucks with a ratchet strap or bungee on the tailgate I tell the owner how to fix it. Lubricating the pivot at the center of the latch cables fixes it. I finally got rid of it at 170,000 miles when the doors rusted out and the transmission started shifting hard. It wasn't worth it do do a clutch and transmission rebuild plus door shells.

The two biggest pains in the ass I had to deal with on my truck, a 2001 sierra, was the blend door actuator on the driver side, and slow power windows. If you get any more free time on your hands, you should make a video on those two. I fumbled my way through replacing that actuator and finally found the right areas to lube the run channels.
