If you aren't seeing an OSD at all with HDZero or your OSD is garbled, this is for you. In this video, I cover the most common causes of OSD problems on HDZero and show you how to fix them.

why does my osd disappear after I fly for a little while. I have the scout head set. turn the head set off and then on and the osd is back

THANK YOU, THANK YOU - I had been supplied a Foxeer Cinewhoop 25 with a corrupted Betaflight (ridiculous PID values and more). Foxeer could not supply a correct dump file!! After re-flashing I had to sort out all the settings manually, and I got it all back bar OSD. Turns out Betaflight 4.3.2 would not find the VTX to add OSD when on default "Auto", so setting in CLI the device to MSP and setting the correct UART(-1), up popped the OSD................. PHEW!! GreatVideo, extremely well arranged and presented, easily solved my issue!

Great information! I had OSD, stopped flying for a couple of months and all of a sudden OSD is gone. Everything was working fine.

My first thought is that a solder joint came loose. Have you been able to figure this out?

@@ATXAirborne OMG!!!!! The connector was loose. Tried to solder the ground back but didn't work. I cut the plug and soldered direct to the VTX and it worked as it was before. Awesome!!!! Thanks so much!!

Thanks! My Diatone F722 was working fine but somehow lost the ports config and displayport_msp_serial setting. Reconfiguring ports config and setting displayport_msp_serial solved my OSD problem.

Hi, Ive an issue with the OSD... if i disarm you get the post flight statistics as normal but upon rearming the post flight stuff stays on screen. both tx and rx are updated to the same firmware and reflashed several times. everything else works as it should. any thoughts? cheers.

This was helpful. I was trying to figure out why I didn't have OSD, turns out I was entering the wrong number on the cli command. Whoops!

Thanks! The mic is an Audio Technica AT875R shotgun mic running into a Zoom H4N (since it requires phantom power). I used a Rode VideoMicro for some of my earlier videos, but it was picking up way too much echo in the room.

@@ATXAirborne Yes, room echo is what I’ve been battling. Basically now I use very low input gain and then put a lapel mic super close to my mount which works ok. But if I turn my head at all it causes issues and a lot of extra work in post… your audio sounds great and really adds to the professionalism of your videos. Keep up the good work, cheers!

@@GiantAntCowboy I appreciate that, thanks. You might consider room treatment. I got some sound blankets that make a huge difference in reducing echo and room noise. I don’t always set them up but I can tell a difference when I do. Could be worth doing if you’re recording a lot of voiceover.

Thanks to one of your previous videos, my HD Zero and osd are working great! However, I would like to fix one problem that still exists. How do I get the vtx channel to be displayed? I only see dashes instead of numbers. Is there a simple fix for this?

Yes, you can do this. I've been meaning to make a video on it. The answer is that you need to load the VTX table for the VTX into Betaflight. You can find the download link on this page (look for "VTX Table"): www.hd-zero.com/document If you aren't using SmartAudio (which it is likely you are not), you have to trick Betaflight into showing this information. To do that, you can go to the Ports tab in Betaflight and enable the SmartAudio peripheral option for a UART that you are otherwise not using. Don't use the UART for your VTX, it has to be a UART you aren't using. If you don't have any open UARTs, you can enable SoftSerial and use that to make a fake UART. As I said, I'll make a video on this sometime soon as well :)

This was really helpful. My OSD stopped working when I upgraded my Mobula6 HDZero to Betaflight 4.4. Upgrading the firmware on the VTX and VRX and changing the serial port configuration on the Ports tab to "VTX (MSP + DisplayPort)" fixed it.

I have 6 HDZero quads of different sizes and vtx types and all of them work perfectly. I have the Freestyle version in my Chimera 7 and it works great as well. I just added another Freestyle vtx to one of my 5" quads. Everything works except for the osd. I've tried everything in this video as well as other videos. Still no osd. Any suggestions?

Same problem did you find what's wrong? I have HDZero Race2 VTX with Foxeer F722 V3 Mini Pro FC and Foxeer Reaper Mini 60A 128K 4in1 ESC no osd on the nano90 but not any problem with my mobula6 we tried everything

@@skuizyHD I had to reflash my vrx and vtx twice before it worked. Then I had to reflash the rest of my fleet. Kind of a pain but worth it in the end. When I finally get my new goggles I'll most likely have to repeat the entire process. Unfortunately, by the time my new goggles arrive they'll probably be obsolete. Ugh!

Hi Atx, I'm using soft serial not knowing you're not supposed to. I'm also using it on inav without any issue. Is this just a betaflight problem? Also I'm using an old omnibus f4 pro v3 flight controller everything seems fine on soft serial on my end.

I've heard some people being successful with SoftSerial so I think it is possible in some cases. Because SoftSerial isn't as fast, I suspect you might run into more problems with more OSD elements. You might see it stop updating completely or stop updating quickly. I think it's best to use a real UART, but I'm glad SoftSerial is working for you!

Yes I've been real lucky so far no issues whatsoever I'm using an old omnibus f4 pro v3 I have quite a few of these boards they're solid and reliable only issue they have only 4 uarts not great when it's an inav build. Gps takes up 2 uarts I believe its 3 and 6. The uart 3 gets turned into sdl and scl .

Hey thanks for making this video. I am having a problem on my whoop board where I can not changed my power output via smart audio. Everything is connected and I've cli'd the vtx table. Still getting an error. any ideas?

What happens when you try to change it? Are you able to change any other settings, such as channel?

@@ATXAirborne nope. No options. It says something to the effect the the vtx isn’t set up. But I’ve done that several times. It’s not the worst thing to happen but I’d like to know if I’m on 25mw or 200mw…cause if I’m on 25mw that would explain why I can barely get down my driveway 😅. Setting up the 1watt was super easy tho. No problems there…so far. I put that in a 7” build and I’ll be long range testing it tomorrow

I just got a quad with the whoop lite vtx (running BF 4.3.0) and everything is working fine except I cannot control the vtx using radio stick commands (smart audio pin on vtx is not connected to FC, assuming msp handles this now, but perhaps not in BF 4.3??)

@@modquad18 hey, I don’t remember what I did to fix this. I’ve built a lot of quads in the last year so I can’t say for sure what the issue was. As I look back at my comments I think I must’ve just missed something in the “ports”tab or I mis-wired something.

@@jsnlmb42 Thanks, I figured it out. Had to set an unused UART to SmartAudio to trick BF into thinking SA was present (even though vtx wasn’t connected to SA).

My voltage element lags, it stays on the same voltage then drops down to a lower value that it gets hung up on. Quad flies but voltage will be lower than shown, and then vtx will eventually turn off because voltage is too low As soon as i assign vtx table and define power value, in bf configurator, fc keeps logging out and going into dfu mode on 4.4.0 4.4.1 shows no OSD

osd displayed including elements but no antenna indicators in the upper right-hand corner any help on getting them on the osd

The most likely cause is that you have the VRX OSD disabled. If you go into the menu on the receiver, look and see if you have its OSD turned off.

Yes very big problem to have osd in news vtx HDZERO ...you can give the 2 exacts CLI enter: It is this: get osd_displayport_device = MSP get displayport_msp_serial = 1 Thanks answer friend?

During the initial setup of HDZERO, if you enter the command (set osd_displayport_device = MSP) in the CLI, it appears ###ERROR: INVALID NAME#### and does not proceed. Why is that?

Hmm. Here are a few thoughts: 1) What flight controller firmware and version are you on? If it's Betaflight, you need to be on at least 4.2.9 or newer. 2) Before entering this CLI command, have you enabled MSP for the UART on the Ports tab (if you are using Betaflight)? You may have to do that before you can enter the CLI command successfully.

hdzero is so much alpha, you need to be really a fanboy to use it. I bought a hdzero Mobula-7 and on every single harder landing (not even crash) the video signal is lost until power down and power up. On facebook these issues are well known, if you discuss them you'll be banned from the group (also if you speak about dji) Stay away from hdzero.

Lol my osd looks great its the rest of the image that looks horrible. Sharkbyte with HD3 Core goggles. My analog imaging is better than sharkbyte. The sd card recordings confirm the poor image quality. Using hd zero cameras.
