i tried to update my envy 5010 firmware, after I started the instalation the printer got stuck at ''verifying...'' even if I unplug it from the wall outlet and plug it again it shows the same message I'm so dissapointed with HP because i've never used this printer, I used it twice...

Hello all, I had made a firmware update(HP_M177_FW_Update_20201012) to my Color Laserjet Pro MFP M177fw, when I turned on, the HP logo appeared, the screen went blank and loop of restarted after a few seconds, this guide solved the problem for me: 1) turn on the printer, then unplug the power cable, also unplug the usb cable. 2) Press the power button for 30 seconds and wait 2 minutes. 3) Connect only the power cable and turn on the printer. 4) Wait until it preheats and starts the printer. 5) connect the usb cable. 6) printer ok, print, copy and scan normal and firmware updated

updating the firmware made the printer hang quite regularly--- HP says "buy a new printer"! I will, but it certainly won't be an HP this time.

Is there a way to bypass the scanner check when starting and go directly to the printer for printing as I am facing the same issue of 'being stuck in initializing' and none of the recommendations in the video nor the comments helped

+Malik Bilal Awan thanks for reaching out! I understand that you are experiencing an issue with your printer as it is stuck on initialization screen. I'll do my best to assist you. If you open the flatbed cover, you will see that the LIGHT bar is all the way at the end and it won't move back. Use STAR-shade screwdriver to remove screws around the rim. There are 2 screws under the plastic rim (different size). Lift the glass cover slightly and move the Light Bar to the middle. Close the glass cover and turn on the power." Let us know how it goes.

So my initializing issue is indeed a misalign scanner sensor, I can totally see how cost reduction has made this flatbed part fail so easily and go out of alignment

Too bad the firmware update is what causes the initialization loop which resets the printer every few seconds making it impossible to do another update since the computer continuously loses communication with the printer. HP has known for years that their firmware causes this problem with the M1212, but they continue to release this destructive update and have no way to fix the printer after the firmware has been updated. Boo!

Keeping your firmware and apps up to date helps ensure you are getting the most out of your printer. Use one of the following methods to update the firmware: hp.care/2jJ8dGP and hp.care/2jJ5IUY NOTE: This firmware update utility may reset all product settings including IP address (If networked), printer settings, stored faxes, fax phonebook data, and fax send/receive settings. Please print out the product's Self Test / Configuration pages before upgrading the firmware so that these settings can be restored after the firmware upgrade. Assigning a manual IP address to the printer and disabling IPv6 on the printer should fix connectivity issues: hp.care/2jJ1ooF

Sure, but the one I loaded, using your latest driver/setup tool from your website, has been known to cause an unrecoverable error for over four years now. It should never had been on your server and loaded through this tool. Now there is no way to do anything with the printer - all because of this bad firmware.

+Susan Winter Sorry for the inconvenience caused. We can't roll back the firmware on any printer.Try performing NVRAM Initialization follow the below steps: 1.Turn the printer off. 2.Press and hold down CANCEL and Start Copy buttons at the same time while powering on printer. 3.Continue to hold down buttons until the control panel display reads PERMANENT STORAGE INIT. 4.Release the buttons. Printer will return to Ready automatically. If this doesn't fix your Initialization issues, Contact HP Support: hp.care/2bo1oeo

Thanks. That is actually not the correct instruction for resetting the NVRAM on this printer. That does nothing. The correct reset is Cancel and Right Arrow. Regardless, the reset does nothing because your lousy firmware screws up the formatter board. How come there is no way to remove the board and erase and reprogram it? You should send me a new formatter board, and I will get mine replaced so I can save the printer.

+Susan Winter You are welcome, I regret to say we don't have an option to reset the board or reprogram it, I could see that Firmware last Release date was on Apr 21, 2015. We haven't released any firmware after that for your model. This is how our printers are designed!

+Erick Perdue I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix: Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON. Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer. Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds. The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

My HP color laserjet 1415 goes "brick mode". Where I can get binary FW file to flash it via hardware programmer ? Your USB updater tools works only with "normal" printer, and can`t work with bricked one :(

+PunjaBis Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Remove USB cable, if present. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge. Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer. Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Need help, HP did an automatic update to my HP Envy Photo 7855 all in one printer, now it's stuck on initialization. I had the Geeks from Best Buy come out and they said it's from an update that HP did. Please help, as I really love this printer and disappointed that this happened.

Let's try a power reset on the printer to resolve the frozen screen issue- Reset the product With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Wait at least 60 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet. Reconnect the power cord to the printer. Turn the printer on. Performing a “hard reset” is a simple solution that often solves a number of different HP Printer issues. To hard reset your printer, first disconnect the power cord from BOTH the printer and the power source while the printer is ON. After 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer and the power outlet. Your printer should now reset and turn back on automatically. Manually turn the printer back on if it does not turn back on automatically. That’s all there is to it! This should get the printer unstuck for most users. Binu - Social Media Tech Support

Same issue with laserjet m126nw. After firmware no display and can't copy and as soon as I connect the USB to the computer it restarts every few second. The next time I buy anything I will be sure not to buy HP

+Sulvine Charlie This issue could occur if the printer is in error state. Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue. And here's the step by step guide for you listed below: 1. Disconnect USB/Network/FAX and power on the Standalone unit. 2. Check and remove any packaging material inside the printer and toner cartridge. 3. Try different power source. 4. Perform a power cycle by unplugging the power cord while the power is on and plug it back. 5. Perform a power drain by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the printer and keeping the power button pressed for 30 seconds and if there is a power switch, keep the switch in ON position for 30 seconds before reconnecting the power cord. 6. Turn Off the printer for 3 min and then try turning on the unit. Let me know how this works.

I have an old HP OJ8600 ink-jet MFP. The print-heads went out, and I've tried all of the fixes to clean contacts, etc. but nothing works. Rather than spend $220 for a new printhead frame, I bought a new printer and now I'm only trying to "reset" the old OJ8600 to erase my WiFi logon info etc. before recycling the unit. But the doggone printer head error message prevents any sort of access to the printer's menu. Is there a way to reset this printer to secure my passwords short of taking a sledge hammer to it?

+Alexandra Camelo Please perform the below mentioned steps to fix this issue: Unplug network cable, printer USB cable, power cable and wait for 30 seconds. Plug back power cable. Power on the printer and hit Copy And X (Cancel button above copy button) until it says permanent storage initialize. OR Power on the printer and hit Right Arrow And X (Cancel button above copy button) until it says permanent storage initialize. Download the latest firmware and apply it (Use USB Cable, DO NOT TRY IT OVER NETWORK TO UPDATE FIRMWARE) If your Router does not support ipv6 : disable ipv6 in your printer (This works in my case.) Happy Troubleshooting for HP LaserJet Printer Stuck on Initializing!!

+Eduard Di You can try Reset first to see if it helps and if it doesn't then you can try to bake it next. If all of these fail then you have to replace the formatter.

@@HPSupport thank you for your response. I do in fact see that the light bar is all the way at the end(to the left). However I do not see any screws around the area of the light bar and the actual scanning surface area.

what if I don't have a PC? how do I update this stupid printer? when I turn the printer on the loading bar moves to less than 1/2 then stops and stuck forever. I turn it off taking cable of wait nothing work??? I have a PC but the printer is not recognize on it

+Mgar New Try the steps recommended below. Turn on the printer. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue. Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected. Remove the ink cartridges from the printer. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip. Wait at least 60 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed. Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door. If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so. If you disconnected the USB cable, reconnect it to the rear of the printer.

Hello - Any help from anyone would be appreciated. I have gotten to the place where I'm trying to update and it will not allow the update because my printer is in an Error code. Well, not to be rude but thats exactly why i'm trying to update the firmware. Any suggestions? I"ve also held down in the bottom right corner of the screen until a sentence pops up saying "permanent storage init." Does anyone know what this means?

Nope. Firmware upgrade made it go from no ethernet (0.0.0.0) and now it's stuck on initializing.

+nismoman420 Turn on the printer and then removed the toner cartridge. You might have to wait patiently for couple of minutes. This might get the printer out of error initialization cycle. After which install the toner cartridge back. This should help.

+Rolando Schaupp Please perform hard reset on your printer as mentioned below to fix this issue: 1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on. 2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue. 3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer. 4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. 5. Wait at least 60 seconds. 6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet. 7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer. 8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move. 9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

@@HPSupport Before we proceed where (9)? We're still stuck at loading screen, 30%. Also, how does unplugging power cord from the wall outlet help? Also-2, the issue started right after the cord had been unplugged from the printer. When the latter was idle and silent and on. It is said printer should not be in error state to update correctly. Isn't frozen init an error state? Laser Jet Pro 400

+remontek Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Remove USB cable, if present. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge. Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer. Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle. If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to update the printer firmware, If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer. For more details on how to update the printer firmware - HP LaserJet - Update the firmware: bit.ly/2SpTSWX Note: Connect the printer using USB connection and then download the printer firmware from our HP support website. Once done, restart the printer.

I updated the firmware on my hp m1136 and now my printer takes almost 2-4 minutes to initialise.

+Suyash Warke Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue. And here's the step by step guide for you listed below: 1. Disconnect USB/Network/FAX and power on the Standalone unit. 2. Check and remove any packaging material inside the printer and toner cartridge. 3. Try different power source. 4. Perform a power cycle by unplugging the power cord while the power is on and plug it back. 5. Perform a power drain by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the printer and keeping the power button pressed for 30 seconds and if there is a power switch, keep the switch in ON position for 30 seconds before reconnecting the power cord. 6. Turn Off the printer for 3 min and then try turning on the unit. Let me know how this works.

+Hazem Al Naeem I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix: Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON. Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer. Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds. The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

@@HPSupport how i can sent you a picture... I tried this method and was unable to update the printer... The printer stuck in initializing setup and the farmware show me this massage(the update failed on 1 printer. Please turn the printer off, then on, and retry the update) I tryed this olso turn off and then on and the same massage show to me.. Maybe the problem its hardware or what do you think??? Thank you for answer my comments

That's not a solution but, a way to wreck the printer and force you to buy a new one. The "firmware" blocks compatible cartridges of other makers (up in smoke goes competition), so that HP fills its coffers with our money.

@@HPSupport Lady/Sir, the article you are referring to is the well known narrative of each and every printer manufacturer: Blessing their own products and slandering the competition. The article presents claims, not proof. I happen to be an emeritus professor of chemistry and I know for a fact that the competition's inks are just as good, if not better, than your own. I have tested them several times. Not to forget that printer inks patents are made public and anyone can take advantage of them as a start point and make an even better ink composition. Manufacturers have one and only purpose ie., to make as much money as possible for their shareholders. From the looks of it, their methods are quite successful. The consumers are "cornered" and have no choice, since all printer manufacturers are in agreement with one another as to their greedy and looting policy of keeping ink prices at preposterous levels. By sponsoring the election campaigns of politicians, they are in a position to dictate laws to their liking. So, glory to them and same on us the rest, ordinary folks. The victor takes it all and "might makes right". :) As for "public relations", they simply sweet talk their victims and propose "solutions" that are not "solutions" but traps. At least, in the case of the product being out of warranty or the user having dared install "compatible" ink cartridges. Have a nice day and keep up the good ("good" for your company) 'work'!

@@HPSupport That link simply repeats the usual narrative of the supposedly superior original inks (sold at preposterously high prices). It provides no solution to the problems caused by your manifestly malicious firmware "upgrades", nor for the usual "HP error code: " which appears thereafter rendering the printer useless (this code is supposed to mean some king of overheating of the "print bar", -another idiotic expression for describing the print head assembly- or something called "delamination of the print bar, supposedly due to eg. air having entered the print head. That NOT being the case, since the printer immediately before, was working perfectly and the colour test page showed that all colours printed perfectly)

@@HPSupport No, sirs, you did not solve my printers' problem. You caused it. As for calling me a "valuable customer", yes, you are quite right. I am valuable to you and the exact opposite to me. Out of my five page wide printers, only two are working, the other three were working just fine with the original inks and as soon as I installed compatible ones, (of different manufacturers), they were, practically, "bricked", displaying "HP error code: ", meaning that I should find time to take the printer apart and check the "print bar" (=print head assembly). The pagewides are constucted in such away that one needs to spend a hell of a lot of time for disassembling them and removing the print head assembly and then such the air out of it and push some ink through the intake nozzles. The printheads, costing more than the printers and the local service centres (justly) charging for their time and the spare part (if one cannot do the repair himself) an amount twice the value of the printer. You know it and I know it that all manufacturers simply try to fill their coffers with money, taking advantage of their "monopoly" (they are most certainly coordinating their prices and policies) and the customers have no real choice but, either pocket out the money or learn to be without a printer or study electronics and do the repair themselves. :)

I have had enough of HP, that they produce such unreliable crap devices, I will never buy HP products from now on, and I recommend this to other disappointed people as well. Their support staff is useless. You have to search on different youtube videos, private people who, through many struggles, can provide much more help than the manufacturer. It seems that this multi company, like the others, is only interested in their products as long as they profit from them. I hope a lot of people will do the same as me, depriving companies like this of their income, if they pull the customers off with their manufactured garbage.

@@HPSupport I have a HP Officejet 7610 printer. Error code 0x61011bed is displayed after the startup process is complete. 1. I took out the cartridges, then turned off the printer and unplugged it. I let it sit for 10 minutes, then plugged it in and turned it on again. 2. I checked the integrity of the connectors in the cartridge socket, then cleaned them and the connectors of the cartridges as well. I put the cartridges back in, but then it said this error again. 3. I tried the same procedure with new cartridges, still without success. 4. I updated the firmware. 5. I entered the service menu (hold power on, and home-back-home-home) and performed a factory reset. 6. I looked everywhere for a piece of paper stuck somewhere, but the printer is completely clean. 7. I did all this with an empty paper feeder and a loaded one. Note: If I calculate my hourly wage, the time I spent repairing the printer, I could have bought a normal (non-HP) new printer.

That's why I said that every multi company's support team is completely useless in general when it comes to troubleshooting. Basically, these products should be designed normally so that the user does not even have to deal with troubleshooting.

+Belieber Please try the below mentioned steps to fix the issue. If you open the flatbed cover, you will see that the LIGHT bar is all the way at the end and it won't move back. Use STAR-shade screwdriver to remove screws around the rim. There are 2 screws under the plastic rim (different size). Lift the glass cover slightly and move the Light Bar to the middle. Close the glass cover and turn on the power.
