In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.

Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.
- CAPTAIN YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Define an area with the industry area tool and place highly specialized industrial buildings to build and manage the production chain from raw material extraction up to final end product. Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. These areas can level up upon reaching productions goals and staffing requirements.

New industrial buildings include Extractors, Warehouse Facilities, Processing and Auxiliary Buildings, Industrial Props and Roads. Manage traffic and logistics with industrial warehouses and the use of the new Cargo Services including a cargo airport.

I was wondering if you'd like a look at one of my cities at steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1704817837 as I've been having traffic issues but when I tried to fix it myself with six-lane roads I bankrupted myself doing so so both my roads and my industry/budget need looking at.

I love this city that I've been building for a while now, and it's gone through Many different complete overhauls that have put my money into the negative millions... Right now I was able to make it so that I am at an overall plus, however my mass transit system is completely full... I have thousands of people waiting at numerous metro stops, and I maxed out the number of metro cars... I want to add pathways for people to walk, but I have no clue where to put them... If you were to give this a try at fixing, I would more than appreciate it... Other than making sure to keep the city as grid-like and symmetrical as possible, and use as little amount of mods as possible, I give you free reign to build, destroy, move or otherwise change any aspects of the city... And any tips for anything else that I have in the city that grabs your attention would be appreciated as well... My current plan with the city is try to build a part across the water dedicated to tourism, but I'm stumped on how to optimize it into the current aesthetics of the city... Thank you very much...

@@unknownentity742 RU-vid not big enough for more than one person to do a similar thing? You must be new around RU-vid. Let me tell you... IT'S HUGE!!! Millions upon millions of people posting videos doing things that are very similar to millions of others. So I used an idea that's out there, credited the guy in my first episode and then did it my own way. Get over it 😉

Just so you know on the second large six-lane one-way roundabout, one of your sections of road was in the wrong direction, so kinda ruined the roundabout and sent all the traffic down a side road :P

@@tls5870 Exactly! I stopped following and watching him (Sam Burr) over it. His prissy, Tsk's, Tsk's, and the sighs and the whining were sooo annoying! Not to mention the convoluted bus routes and complications he puts the citizens through in his own builds... I'd hate to live in any REAL city that takes the advice he gives!

Add to that that nearly every road in the city is a primary road (there are few side roads, so all traffic, all services, and all structures are slowing down those roads) and it's no wonder this city barely works.

@@mattsadventureswithart5764 i know this is old. But it is better to repeat a mistake than to make a total mess. Lets say first junction is 1st line is left and straight, 2nd line is straight, 3rd line is straight and right. You will learn from previous mistake and next junction will be 1st left 2nd straight and 3rd right. And you will learn from past mistake and make all 3 lines right so Biffa is pleased with flow even it goes in opposite direction as you wanted to go. It is definetly better to copy previous mistake and use first junction lines for whole road and avoid tons of confusion, untill you get to full road reconstruction. And even there you might not change it as.people are using it for 2+ years and used to that. Unless you are building a city from zero in middle of nowhere like you do in this game, you have to follow logic used before to avoid confusion even though there is more effective way.

I enjoy these types of videos because, well, I'm hella guilty of making these mistakes over and over. If I could make a request ... when you fix a section, you'll start the demolition and then "come back from commercial" and the new section is built. Could you, maybe a few times, continue the video so we can see your build process or get a bit more insight into your thought process as you build it? Cheers

AI seems to just hate using multiple lanes in general for some reason (4 lane highway and the AI just bunch up into one lane is pretty common in these videos)

@@mariokart6309 True. I had a junction with 2-lane right turn. There was no other turns after that, just interchange to highway, where both 2 lanes went. And they kept using one lane :/// and other lane was absolutly free. I got to restrict personal vehicles on that damm lane, than things gone better

@@mariokart6309 AI looks for shortest route. It does not account for traffic in that route. (it does account for road speed, so you can manage traffic with that too). This means that number of lanes is irrelevant because everyone consdiers same route/same lane as theirs.

Another fine episode from mr. Biffa, keep 'em comming :-) One thing I noticed though, and I did comment on why not using a "better" intersection than the cloverleaf on a previous episode, but it seems like a common mistake: The interchanges work differently than other assets in the game, if you have downloaded something like a custom school, then that building is basically demolished if the asset is not present. But an intersection is not "saved" in the game, as soon as it's plopped it becomes just a bunch of roads/rails/whatever and you don't need the asset installed to keep the city working. Now, obviously if you plop an intersection that uses custom roads (like network extension) or roads from a DLC you'd need those installed... I really like Timboh's interchanges, they generally work very well, uses vanilla roads and are quite compact, although in some cases the thumbnails don't work ingame (probably broken by some game update)...

That junction is meant for left-lane driving traffic, which is why it doesn't work very well here. It needs to be mirrored.

its when you dont have the move it mod it takes alot of time to make stuff look smooth and adjust it later without that mod then one starts to make something look less nice and as that goes on ye care less and less and then ye get messy edgy roads like in the video

Because curves kill your zoning. Personally, I feel bad when I don't pack everything as tight as possible. But I wouldn't make big empty squares either, so I don't know what this guy was doing... Lol

@@PLPlolol1 I literally just got that mod after years of not knowing it existed, I've been making really nice curved roads and making stuff work without it since I bought the game when it came out. I think it comes down to people finding creative solutions and thinking outside the box, not needing a mod.

I think it was this map I was playing when people started dying like flies. Assuming I remember correctly, you'll need to move your sewer outlets to another river branch, because when the city gets bigger and you add more water pumps, they'll eventually mess up the river flow so bad that sewage water starts travel upwards and gets sucked into the supposedly fresh water...

Whoa! All those residential roads right off the highway?! 😳 Oh no, that's a clear no no! 😆 I run a road like this right up to the highway without touching it, unless I'm crossing it as bridge (or under it as a tunnel). 🤔 Interesting take on those u-turn loops, Biffa. Seems to look a tad crowded, though at the moment the traffic is moving. Lane choosing for cars coming off the u-turns? Didn't see that coming! 😆 Yeah, railroad crossings have gotta be continuous, unless it's way out in the country to me. Good video, thanks...

25:30 Just a tip for anyone. If it's left-hand drive (driving on the right side) make your roundabouts anti-clockwise and vice versa. This prevents traffic from crossing each other. Something Biffa knows just overlooked. It happens...

If you use one-way roads to come onto it you can counter-rotate your roundabouts! Also to confuse Biffa if he ever works on your city. So win win!

The roundabouts he makes are fine, the last one was in other direction because it crossed the other roundabout and if he flipped that road counter-clockwise it would have broken the first square-about.

Extra points for using the Parclo Interchange. While it's used quite often in in real life Europe where space is at a premium, in vanilla CS it doesn't work that well, because it really requires some sophisticated timed traffic lights in even only medium traffic.

For rail bypass, I have a very simple rail bypass for you to try. So you have your station. Make main line go into a tunnel and go under the station's rail. Use one way rail line to come off like an exit line and up into the station. Both sides of rail, both ends of station. Now your bypass doesnt have trains crossing the line. You can make the "exits" come off well before the tunnel to then act like a siding. So essentially. Tunnel under. One exit for each direction, one entry for each. Total of four one way rails, two per side of station.

the first big one way roundabout thing coming off the highway interchange you made has a feeder street that needs to be fixed, Piper Hancock st needs to be just a right onto the big road. at about 11:00 you can see it on the top left as you are fixing the the lanes, they are trying to cut across all the traffic to go up, you can see it again when you redo the lanes at about the 28:00 minute mark.

Biffa, when you made the adjacent one- way roundabout you countered flow of traffic where they make an X between the two roundabouts simply changing the direction of the second roundabout would make flow even better since there would be less traffic to cross. 25:00

I deleted ALL of my Metro (using the move it Mod). Redid all of it and jumped from ~700 people using it to 9000. Yes, 9000! Having separate loops within districts within walking distance of the master loop around my city. Metros can be a life saver. Thanks Biffa!

The way its done in actual cities is you uses buses as local area carriers with stops at metro stations that carry backbone across the city. I never understood why youtubers love "loops" so much, when its the least efficient way to use backbone public transport.

Creating metro lines and turning on the "Old town" policy helped me get rid of a large part of the traffic, really efficient. I was always frustrated in Sim City 4 that my citizens would not take the metro, but in Cities Skylines, this is not the case and the citizens use the metros.

just so you know, the traffic manager tool which lets you control the allowed vehicle types also works with the trains, which is useful if freight trains are going through passenger stations, like at 15:30.

Just wanted to make a quick comment about your highways: Why not downgrade the middle one too a 2 way road instead. No one uses all your 3 lanes anyway, even less with 4 lanes. Its really not neccecary and you get the same effect, only with less lanes and which all are actually used. Sort of what Sam Bur has done in his videos.

Once I built my money back up after mass illness, I will install a metro. My traffic is 82% thanks to Biffa, my international airport is running well. I recon I'll base mine on 'The Tube' I'll install a circle line and some other lines that cross it linking up my airports and railway stations. I would really like more control of the ticketing system. Free buses but charge from taxis and subways.

Biffa, do you like elevated pedestrian walkways? When I see intersections like this one at @22:10, I like to build an elevated or underground pedestrian walkway. Then my peds still get access to walk where they want to walk and they don't impede traffic.

For big interchanges try to use stack interchanges. They have very good efficiency. It's worth looking into.

I think you should when making a sliproad to a highway consider making them in a way that allows coming in from each directions of the highway and also allows to join each direction. Would make it a bit more realistic as I haven't noticed many connections that would allow me only to join only in one direction (at least where I'm from)

The international train lines are crazy. If you let it connect like in this city you will always have train gridlocks because they spam you with 50 trains of 3 passengers each. Its best only to connect a single station to outside and have inside lines completely seperate system.

That large traffic circle - might need to let cars enter the intersection, particularly when it circles back as only two cars can fit in the little gap at a time so there's an inefficiency there...

Timboh makes intersections based on real life motorways (allegedly because his computer can't run the actual game, so he's stuck with the asset editor), but because they're real life replicas they're not all brilliant, and some of them are actually pretty bad for traffic

I get the fix the traffic idea and I know the changes are making a difference, but one small criticism is that the City ended up with over 5-6k less population by the end of the video so that in theory is 5-6k less cars maybe which in itself would reduce the traffic flow.

Hey biffa, thanks for the video but let me tell you what i think of this one. This fix was pretty frustrating to look at. Ill tell you why. So much demolishing could have been prevented. taking down the traffic light along with a few city blocks??? split the influx that came from the highway would have worked just fine. Replacing the tunnel for a bridge makes no sence it's still the same connection. That area was dealing with lack of highway access, In fact it had none, so traffic had to drive through town to get there. later you send traffic away from that intersection using one way roads. That's not a fix, it was a detourabout. Really, please take a look sometimes to see where the traffic is going to using the magnifying tool and right or shift right click. also In aid for your video's and helping people to understand what you'r doing helps them to understand infrastructure better. Many things don't seem to make sense rather that just smacking roundabouts around. due to the lack of explaining , Well you are doing some explaining but manny times it doesnt corrispond to the why question. For example, try to show why so many cars are using the same route. Still love your video's Thumbs up.

Is there a reason why you build a subway station directly next to another subway station for changing lines instead of just having the lines both go to the 1 station? That hasn't ever seemed to be a problem in my plays..?

Transport Lines Manager 11.2 is list as being incompatible with TMP, but you're using it in this video, the steam workshop comments have it as game breaking? How are you using it without crashes?

Mods and assets are located within the Steam workshop, just search up what you're looking for, go to its page, click subscribe, and it'll be loaded into your game next time you launch it.

The highway does not need to be in your assets for it to work. That being said, link and subscribe to Timboh's work anyway, he put in a lot of work for those.
