My mom's really nice leather recliner had a rivet that had been sheared off, causing the chair to malfunction....and by malfunction I mean: Not work at all. So of course I had to try fixing it....here's what I did.

You did do a great and quick fix. This way you mom did not have to wait for the parts. Good Job! Just a short FYI for those who do not have the tools, The Legrest Subassembly (the name of the mechanism where the bolt comes from) is actually a part that is covered under the La Z Boy 25 year metal parts warranty. Simply contact your La Z Boy dealer with the ACK# ( 15 digit number on a tag underneath the sofa or chair) and they will order the part for you. It is alway recomended to try the company you purchased the chair from first.

Good information and nice video! Love to see someone do their own repairs. Just two things: 1. The bolt is too short as you should have at least 2 threads extending past the Nyloc nut. ( I see you used red Locktite ). 2. A bushing inside of the cleaned out hole (which is a pivot point) would stop the metal from distorting as seen at the start of the video. It will also protect the surrounding metal from the threads on the bolt.

I've got the same problem on my recliner. It's not a lazy boy tho. Mine was made by Penneys about 15 years ago. I'm in need of a rivet in that same place. A rivet that's about 5/8" long and close to 3/8"in diameter not including the head. This just broke as I lifted the foot up.

I have the same problem and plan to use a bolt and a bushing.

Have a feeling that there was a bearing here that blew out. Replacing it with a bolt will grind it into shavings eventually. But I guess that's what happened to the bearing too.

Couple of things I noticed. After cutting the head off he could have took a punch and hammer and knocked it out without grinding the underside. Also the bolt threads should have been long enough to came just a small amount through the nylon insert in the nut.

I have a similar problem and the rivet that you lost is actually a souldered rivet going from 3/8 to 1/4 diameter, I miss the counterpart that you still had, and that appears to have been screwed inside the rivet (must have been a bolt so in fact, not sure), but I reckon that you had to redrill because both plates did not have holes of the same diameter. My chair hole is not damaged so I'm rather looking for the original part... Anyway great work around.

Wow, 0:15, same thing is happening in my Lazyboy. Yeah, I can rock top to bottom without things stopping. So, that's something that I hope that I can do. I just fear more is wrong.

Would have been nice if you would have showed us BEFORE where we could tell what problem you had. And, we don't even get to see AFTER where we understand how it was fixed and if you got it working. Should have spent a little more time on the video where you could benefit the rest of us when we watched it. Because I have a problem with my chair, and I hope by watching your video I would have been able to tell if your solution would help me. But, I just lost five minutes of life without much benefit.
