fixing my Ideal ICOS HE24 boiler. Common control unit failure. Don't forget to Power the whole wall unit off at the wall switch before working on it. I didn't as you'll see later on :)

Hello. I found this video while frantically looking for a fix on a Sunday. Found someone local selling a replacement and got it fixed after following your instructions. Amazing you gave us this info for free. Saved me a ton on money

great video. same prob, reassuring to see someone walk through all the steps. All fixed, heating up and running again. Turned out the transformer in the old pcb had failed after 16 years of service when dissassembled. Hopefully 16 years before the next fix - spark probe, ignition sensor, and ignition sensor cable all replaced at the same time (sensor cable insulation failing due to heat) - sensors out of shape. thanks again.

Many thanks for vid. The orange pcbs are upgrades for the black ones and should give fewer probs. I had flashing L/E error code with my boiler but the problem wasn't the pcb. It was bad connections with the two clip on electrical sensors on the flow pipe - the control thermistor and the overheat thermostat. You need a copy of the manual to see what you are doing, but take them out, clean them up, and you should be good to go.The re-furbed pcbs are much cheaper but I can't find anywhere that wants to exchange the old one. So where are they getting their pcbs to re-furb?

I have the Same L/E error and when I reset it fixes for a bit and gives the same error when use water. How did you did yors

I'm in a similar situation, slightly different cause we had torrential rain and high winds Which blew water back through the flue into the boiler. Needless to say she wasn't a happy camper. I had a guy come out to look at it and charged €100 fair enough to look at it for 15 Mins and tell it could be any number of issues and because it's over 15 years old, he recommends a new boiler €3000 So I paid him his call out fee thanked him and told him Ill let him know if I want to go down that route. I took it apart and immediately saw the fuse was blown, Prior to this i was getting no display at all, When I replaced the fuse I got H E error code. I took the board out again and took it apart and sure enough several components on the board had completely vaporised. I live in Ireland, this Just happened today btw, I ordered a replacement from the UK, coat was €60. Cheapest option locally was €300 The fuse had also initially blown in the isolation switch, and although I believe the Siemens RWB7 timer appears to be working, the red light isn't coming on. As far as I can tell it is still switching the pump on. If anyone has any feedback back on this issue let me know. I'm hopeful I can get this all back up and running for €100 to €200 depending on if I replace a couple more parts out of caution. Which seeing as I was looking at a €2500 to €3000 bill, is a pretty good outcome. My PCB was the old black one.

My ideal Isar H24 has packed up again twice a year every year from fitting!! The last time was feb 2018 and I stupidly called Pimlico plumbers which charged me nearly £700 for changing the pump. Can you please recommend a great boiler or at least for now a great boiler technician in north London? I’m desperate 😔😢

Sorry for the belated reply. I only just saw your question when I answered another one. Try Valliant Boilers. Also the best way to get the best plumbers is to go into a plumber's merchant that sells to the public, but mainly trade, not Screwfix or any one like that, but family run small businesses. Ask the owners (old men with bad knees) inside who they recommend. You should be spoilt for choice in North London. Good luck.

Wow seems a rip off (how much was the pump), I changed the pump in my mother's boiler. This rubbish boiler broke down three times in the first year, has now been replaced.

I bought a second hand pump off e bay for 30 quid ...so easy tonfitband you don't have to be gas safe registered as its not part of the gas system. Just drain the heating system of water (utube). And unscrew and fit back carefully.

By any chance can you advise my boiler is showing status 0 and the reset button does not work at all, will changing the PCB work?

Have you tried turning it off at the wall then back on? Is that what you mean by resetting it? The status zero is normal when not heating, say if the wall dial is turned down to say 10c. When the dial is turned up to above the temp of the room, the heat should come on and the boiler should read C....I suspect the dial (thermostat) on the wall is faulty in your case. That one is cheap and easy to replace.

If you're saying, a switch = a relay, then it should be in the unit i'm changing in this video.

Ive fitted the new control unit but its flashing h5 jumpers are in the same place as the old one?

thanks for your reply @@EducationPineapple I moved the jumpers and the c light came on for 3 minutes with the burner flame neon flashing , then it went to a L /f code :( tried resetting ) god!

@@dianehen8570 try and find out what the specific fault code is. For example code = faulty water pump.

My Ideal Isar boiler Display comes on and the goes off again. I expect the Display to remain on permanently, but it does not. Any suggestion?

Probably energy saving device. It should light-up again when you move the dials.

I don't know what the problem is. Just wanted to check the pressure. Had to cut the water off and drain the system. Now my overflow is dripping constantly and the water is boiling hot

The water pressure gauge is sometimes in another location, say near the water tank, or near where you had the cut-off lever. This is especially true of modern fitments. Try bleeding the whole system of air. There is usually one above the magnetic filter cylinder (black with a 14-segment, large screw cap on top?), maybe not in the Icos system, and of course the radiators has got easy-to-reach ones at the end of the radiators. Start with the radiators' air-bleed-valve nearer the top of the house, would be logical, and work your way downwards. See this video that I found, although I don't think the Icos have valves on the boiler. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0kKRc2zDODs.html... There should also be a pressure valve and pressure set-mechanism under the large red metal cylinder somewhere in your system. This should be at a higher location than your boiler. Good Luck!

@@dwildwestern make sure you watch the video again on a large screen smart TV to spot the small details...there should be some kind of display with a good unit. No display indicates a faulty board. Even a new board can be faulty. The plugs and sockets should be all different. Cable harnesses always have a natural shape to fit into the shape of the item you are removing or replacing. If you have gotten the plugs mixed up, and there are two of the same plugs, then look for the natural shape of the wiring harness as a guide. It would be wise to label the cabling also. Note I have shown that there is power going in to the system. If there is no power going in then the faulty is further back like in the fuse at the wall etc...use a large TV to view the jumpers in my video as they are not visible on a phone. The part where I show the correct jumper sequence for a single boiler (not combi) is at about 17:30...good luck

My boiler is showing H1 so is that just the thermister or the pc board

Check connectors is secure on Thermistor...H1 indicates should change that first...good luck

I have a similar fault on my ICOS HE15. The status on the front shows a -. Did anyone else have this code?

Advised to check the following :'Check that there is sufficient water pressure in the central heating system and that all radiators are “bled”. Press the “reset” button for 2 seconds'...A stands for overheating....consider changing the board to see if it can start the boiler.

Try searching Ebay under the name pressure valve. How do you know that's the part that is faulty?

Best solution: put the pressure gauge in question on ebay search, then match it up to what you see.
