Finally a video showing this. Seems to be a common issue. I was going crazy trying to figure out where my bike was leaking from. Same line, same crack, same everything! Thanks for the video!

Big hug here from Brazil. I'm going through the same situation, and I already bought all the necessary material, but I confess that I'm a little nervous and anxious about having to do this procedure, but your video comforted me a lot, you were very specific. I already bought the original hose, just the clamp that I chose to use an oil and gas clamp, which is a quality clamp, but because I don't have the specific pliers.
@boomerguy9935

Helpful hint when draining the oil: After moving the clamp off the plug, grab the hose with long needle nose pliers and squeeze it while removing the plug; aim it at the drain pan and release. This procedure also works well when "burping" the oil hose after adding new oil to the tank.

Thanks for the video. Especially, for showing the part number and tool. I picked it up from the dealer here. The clamp was $2.00 and hose for $12.00. Sorry that you paid 4 times as much. Just have to get the hose off and on...fun times tomorrow. Ride safe !

When taking the hose off the oil tank don't pry off you hose you can crack it. Just get a sharp blade and slice the hose off much safer. otherwise you will be in a lot of hurt if you crack the neck of the oil tank.

Is there a video out there that shows how to replace the oil reservoir? I just replaced the drain line that was leaking and now it looks like the tank is actually shooting out oil too now. But trying to take it out looks a lil more complicated seems like i have to be removing prts of frame.

thanks for the video. My 2004 has a different oil line with a hard line section in the middle. the hard line had chaffed through. The later model line is simpler.

Thank you so much for this guide. I was planning on selling my bike when I got home from a family reunion and came to my bike leaking all the oil. Drain hose is smothered with oil. Will change it this Saturday and hope it’s all good and ready to sell. Don’t wanna sell it but my wife says we need to :\.

yesterday I replaced the leaky hose, but it did not come out easy, I was not able to pull the hose out as you did from the top. I had to go to the left side of the bike and with a small hack saw blade cut the hose in half and pulled the hose from the bottom and the other half I pulled it from the right side. My bike is a 2011 sportster 1200 and did not have space to put my hand to pull the hose from the top like you did. Also had a tuff time to slide the new hose through the hole it would not slide in so I oiled the hose outside and that did the trick. again I had to put the hose in from the left side as I had more space to maneuver the hose down into the hole. Also on my bike there were a couple of wires so I had to run the hose under those wires to not put pressure on the wires. It took me about an hour and a half to remove and put in the new hose. I know if I had taken the bike to the dealer or motorcycle shop they would have charged me at least 2 or 3 hundred dollars to replace the hose. Here in California it is very expensive. So if you try to do the work yourself take your time and have patience. Hopefully this will help someone out there if you have to change the oil drain tube..

How old was line, my super low is 3years old, 2 days ago started to see oil drip. I clean the area and see it on the transfer shaft near the transfer case. Maybe a bearing seal leak?

Mine was about 10 years old. I've noticed that for bikes that are left outside, that area of the hoses is exposed to direct sun. I am thinking that would really speed up the break down of the rubber.

Good to know! I was about to do the same. I asked the Harley parts guy for that same clamp and he said he didn't have a part number. I told him that it was fine, that I would just get it from the auto parts store. He replied that I could also get the proper clamping tool from the auto part store too. LOL! I'm glad I used the OEM. It was easy to do now I have the tool for life.

Just seen I had a small leak, little of a investigation and it's the same problem, wasn't sure how to get the weird clamp off. Will Def be using a jubilee clamp (UK term for the worm clamp). My 2014 has a lot longer oil line, so hoping I can just cut it and reuse

Did you hose run through the case then out the bottom? Does it have to go through that same route or can I just have it go down? Thanks!
@twinsmotogarage1866
@twinsmotogarage1866 Год назад
I was actually thinking about this the other day. Why it goes all the way through the case. I think it’s to make draining the oil clean and easy. It’s just a drain so I don’t think it matters. My FXR has no drain line, just a plug directly into the oil bag and it’s an absolute mess draining oil. It spills on everything. Not all sportsters have a drain line that goes through the case but if it does I’d recommend doing it the right way with the right parts.
@-Tecky-
@-Tecky- Год назад
@@twinsmotogarage1866 how hard was it to guide it through or is there a tube in there that guides it for you? Thanks for the quick reply! I was curious why mine goes through there but my last sportster indont think it did, but maybe I didn’t pay much attention

The tricky part was to get the new drain hose into the hole through the engine. The space is so tight and it was quite impossible to hit the hole without too much of an angle. The trick was to thread a power cord that fits into the hose throught the engine hole and hose and pull cord from beneath. I didn't even have to thread the power cord all the way through the hose (and there is a bend on the hose I didn't want to straighten). Piece of cake. The hose went right into the hole and through.
@twinsmotogarage1866
@twinsmotogarage1866 Год назад
I find it the most easy to look at the old tube routing carefully before removing. Then bend the tube where the slight bend already is then feed the bottom through the crankcase. It’s a little tough to push through. I imagine some oil or grease to the outside of the tube would make it easier but would be slightly more messy.

@jenssaugstad450 Год назад
@micahmoss3751 I bought them from Harley. I did consider just buying a hose in the hardware store. That would be possible, but I didn't have the exact dimensions. I also decided that it was better to continue with only original parts.

Your bike looks like an N but tank....anyways. I replaced that hose on my 2010 last year with off the roll fuel hose and screw clamp but that thick wall hose was a bitch to get on the nipple. This year, my wife’s super low has same problem and not wanting to fuck around she ordered from dealer. He says 2 weeks for a damn part that appears to have high failures. Ya, I’m bit pissed. Think I’ll be looking harder for a decent hose....so wanted to see what you were using. Bike looks great. Thx for the video Ps. It’s a small leak and not hard to repair but if that tank drains in front of your rear tire, you’re in for a ride
