This was a super fun yet rough video for me. This truck had fought hard to stay running but thank the Lord I got it going. in the video I never stated what made it run better. After rewatching I think it was a mix of things. The first thing being the carburetor having some dirt in it or some sort of blockage. The second seemed to me like fouled spark plugs, those plugs really got some serious carbon on them probably from me adjusting the carb around so much I'm sure at least one was fouled.
Anyhow I hope this video helps someone out!
May The Lord Jesus Bless Ya!!!

Something I've learned about what reading you should get from your manifold vacuum is that it's dependent on your elevation and your engines camshaft. My stock 351w at about 4800-4900ft above sea level, I read a little above 15 inches of mercury. If I were at or closer to sea level I should be closer to 20. Again this is with a stock cam as that also contributes to your manifold vacuum rating.

I've been dealing with the same issues. However I haven't figured it out yet. I've checked and replaced pretty much every part you can name on it. And I've had the timing set as well.

Man, I'm fighting this battle right now and I appreciate the info! I'm working on it from the vacuum leak angle. Do you have any tips for what size vacuum hoses I should buy. Mine is a 1979 2 barrel 302. Thhere is an small diameter hose that comes out of the front of the carb and connects to a piece called a TVV or a vacuum delay valve, I've heard both, and then it gets larger on the other side. Of course one of the barbs of that valve broke off and it's not going well looking for a replacement. If I had the vacuum hose sizes before and after it and replaced those, would it be the end of the world if I found a connector and just omitted that valve.

Hello, it really depends on where the vacuum delay valve is going. I have one that goes to a bean can I kept for nostalgia but they are really not needed as all that stuff is either broken or pointless to begin with. I took most of my vacuum stuff off the motor as its so old it can not be trusted when it comes to internal vacuum leaks or cracked hose which causes poor engine running and efficiency.

Great video. I have a weird issue I'm dealing with any advice would be appreciated. 351M ina 78 custom. If it does start it will only run for a couple seconds, I have fuel and accel pump, plus I have spark. Not sure what I'm missing with this thing.
@TylerCreates
@TylerCreates Год назад
Thanks! I would have to guess that it is a loss of voltage somehow. Does the motor die when you let the key return to RUN from the CRANK position?
@tmguy1068
@tmguy1068 Год назад
@@TylerCreates thanks for the reply. Actually I'm on my own so I have been leaving the key on and starting it up off the solenoid. I did notice some weird goo under the grey box on the driver's side. Think I could be getting Intermittent spark?
@TylerCreates
@TylerCreates Год назад
Ah yeah the goo is called potting material. Ford used it to seal the duraspark box electronics. Number one issue with the duraspark system is the Potting material melting out of the box because they get way way to hot. On passenger cars people have to relocate them away from the headers because they melt out in some cases on first drives. In these trucks they can get hot but it is less likely as the box should be mounted way up by the driver side hood mount. If the there is goo the box is for sure bad as when the potting material melts the box has got real hot and then shorts out. Something I did to help the back of my box stay cool was add 3 small washers stacked on each mounting screw moving the box out away from the mounting panel about 1/4 Inch allowing some airflow behind it.

@@TylerCreates Well that makes sense. I'll start with that for sure. 1st time I have messed with this type of setup and I wasn't sure that was doing anything. Really appreciate it.👍

I have a 1985 LTD Crown Victoria V-8 really high idle,Do you have any ideas on what is causing it?
@TylerCreates
@TylerCreates 2 года назад
Is it a manual or auto and does it have a factory 2 barrel carburetor. Also have you adjusted the distributor at all?
@patriciocasillas1571
@patriciocasillas1571 2 года назад
@@TylerCreates It’s Emmanuel, two barrel carburetor.
@TylerCreates
@TylerCreates 2 года назад
haha nice! Well the first thing I would do is make sure your choke is all the way off when the engine is fully warmed up and not set wrong or getting stuck. Also check and make sure your throttle blades / transfer slots are adjusted correctly. Check your mixture screws and make sure they are tuned correct using a vacuum gauge. Never tighten a mix screw, it ruins the carburetor, just turn it in until it stops and no more then you can work out from there in adjustments of 1/4 turns.
