Winter in Finland is getting worse, so I really need to get this new winter beater X5 on the road. So in this video I will rebuild the seized M54B30 and we will try starting it first time.
The o2 sensor cable looked like it got stuck underneath the valve cover gasket at 21:48. Made me shiver thinking about the smell of oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold.
There is a flange on the valve cover that protrudes quite far from the sealing surface. The cable is just under that flange on the video, so no worries 😁
I'm using your speedy board to control an m54b30 that will be going into my 83 Toyota Celica Supra. I have to go front sump, should I be doing rod bearings while in there? It's a 100k mile motor and ran beautifully.
Well with that mileage, those should be fine and those bearings aren't usually problem in these. But if you need to take off the sump amyways, it's not much extra cost or work to replace those.
It leaves quite good inprint of what position was. Or just take a pic before removing it. The position is not that critical. The bolt was 12.9 m10x1, so I checked the standard torque for that size/hardness bolt and used it
@@pazi88 Are you sure about the thread? I mean it's M10 and not a fine thread. I used 83Nm. Response from camshaft manufacturers: 40Nm+60degrees or 150Nm
Näissä on MLS pahvi vakiona ja sehän on käytännössä ikuinen. Ei sitä tarvitse vaihtaa. Muutenkin kone kun on vasta 200tkm rullattu, niin siinä on vielä useampi sata tuhatta jäljellä käyttöikää ennenkuin kanteen/mäntiin jne. tarvii koskea.
No vähän mietin että pitäskö tehdä, mutta en tiiä onko missään välissä aikaa muiden projektien välissä 😅 Tässä on kummiskin ihan remottiakin luvassa tarpeeksi.
Given that the engine is already out of the car and half-disassembled i would go further and change these shitty "low tension" oil rings causing oil consumption
Yeah I thought about that. But the engine is quite low mileage and the bores and everything looked good. So I decided to leave those untouched. I also have another unopened m54 with double the mileage. And that still doesn't smoke or consume oil.
@@pazi88 I guess this also depends on how often the oil was changed, but according to what I know about Suomi cars first owners usually stick with factory recommendations which is 25k or even 30k interval for these cars if im not mistaken which is too much. I just got myself an e46 330i with 217k on it in Finland and service book scared me with these 25-35k intervals but I bought it anyway, hopefully it will not consume oil or at least not a lot of it :D
