Today the previously showcased CEX budget gaming prebuilt PC gets a bit of a makeover. We'll also be seeing how the FX 8320 and R9 380 combo inside this system handles a few games. Thanks for watching :)
I have a similar system with the same single stick of ram, if I stick in another 8gb stick of the same ram will this sort it out? Or would it be better to get two 4gb sticks instead?
@@yourlocaldavid6656 there should be no problem at all but you'd better check the supported ram list of your motherboard (should be easy to find with Google). Also be sure to put your sticks in a dual channel configuration 😊
@@danimayb It is not a myth and I suggest you do actual research before you start spouting BS. In most cases, it may not, infact, be an issue. However, in games that have heavy CPU usage already, running single channel increases CPU usage more than dual channel does, effectively making the CPU more of a bottleneck than it otherwise would be. Your CPU can only interact with the rest of your system so fast, and the speed and bandwidth of your memory affects this. The more work you cause for your CPU by running less channels of RAM, the more its usage increases, the more likely it is going to become a bottleneck.
I'd like to see a video with this PC comparing single channel vs dual channel RAM... I know Intel doesn't care much and the Ryzen love fast dual channel memory, but no clue about older AMD CPUs.
I'm glad I found this channel. It's so nice watching old rigs get cared for :') makes me excited for when I can get my old raidmax case on a build. It's a very small mid tower but I think I'll use the old girl in my ryzen build.
I am a long time viewer, stumbling across vids i missed. You sir, are popular because you're so humble, honest and non-egotistical. You're lucky man, you and your sister were loved!
RandomGaminginHD - i've noticed this a few times and I only ask out of concern ... do you know your hands shake a bit? (I once had a stressful work environment and on top of that I was extremely stressed about my dad and my sleep suffered and someone mentioned my hand shaking while I was holding a bit of paper) Hope your OK dude
Nice video :) Though I'd definitely upgrade that RAM; single channel RAM isn't going to be the best solution. Plus, it supports 4x RAM sticks, so 4x 4GB RAM (16GB total) is easy to get, and you could even get 2x 8GB or 4x 8GB for 32GB max.
- Make sure to shorten, paint, or tape the bottom of the cooler screws to avoid short circuiting! - Should've air dusted it before wiping it. - And did you use thermal compound?
8320 also 120 water here. My hd7850 died a week ago, so now im rocking hd6570 and trying to fix my 7850 board. Was a great combo. Could play any pc game ever.
Tbh I got my first pc build perfectly first time tho I watched hours of pc building while waiting for parts to arrive many of them vids where by you love these vids so interesting to see what lives these computers have lived defo worth the sub
My approach would to be start again with a new case (I’d recycle the case for parts). I think a repair is always harder than a new build, so always try to get as close to a ‘new-build’ as I can justify. That said you did a good clean-up job on it. But you can’t hide that sub £30 damaged case. On eBAY you might be looking at £170, but that is a loss, a replacement case another £30 would only just increase the sale price to £200 but would make it shift faster- especially with some RGB and a transparent side-panel. People buying things like this like a bit of bling because they know/should know that £200 doesn’t really get them a gaming rocket ship- but something that will pass muster for light gaming/productivity while looking good at a quick inspection. As regards CEX I avoid them, to be honest eBay isn’t that great either these days- hard to make a profit. When I was, I would wait until I had about 10 PCs worth of parts, order 10 bling cases from China (for the discount) and do a straight weekend build. These days it is barely worth it for the profit unless you get lucky and some bidding war erupts because you just got lucky on picking a novel PC case design that grabbed attention. That said the Chinese prices aren’t what they used to be which squeezes margins to the point that you’d struggle to make any profit.
I love your videos and the whole concept is really cool to me, that being said I was watching some of your old content as I usually do to see old parts that I use to want or have, I watched you typing on an alienware laptop and noticed that you didn't know how to type or at the very least have a very strange way of typing without looking. I was wondering if you learned how to type yet or if I am just wrong. I just figured since you make a living off of computers(which again I really do enjoy your videos I swear) that you would know how to type by now. Keep up the great vids M8!!!
You're a legend man. Love your vids. Did you get onto Cex about the damage. Likely it was mostly down to handling during shipping as Cex test everything before they buy it off people . But maybe not. Either way you should be entitled to at least a partial refund as what was delivered to you was unusable. Keep up the great work dude 😀
I very much like your videos, but there's one small thing i dislike in this one, the "I dislike liquid cooling" part. I can understand you if you look at liquid cooling just through AiO's (they don't really perform all that better than air coolers), but believe me, as someone who also came from budget building and grinding to get my system just a bit better step by step, custom water cooling is the biggest step you can take in custom building. In fact, i'd like to see you do a budget custom watercooling loop, be it used parts or new from aliexpress or something; it's not just about aesthetics, temperature gains (or rather losses) can be significant. Keep these good videos coming =)
Ive done a similar mounting setup on the cooler for a friends pc. Big 775 stock cooler and an 1156 xeon with 4 machine screws. works like a charm and was free
That is exactly why i prefer to build my computer myself as i know the exact components that go into it and it's built, optimized and performing correctly.
Hey dude been watching your channel for a while now and I've been wondering how many PCs and components do you have now, if you do keep em. Itll be awesome to see your collection, like a collection montage or something! So yeah awesome videos as usual mate! 💪😎
Yeah. Bought a used i7 machine last month. Tossed the included dual fan Corsair AIO-cooler (was loud, didn't cool the cpu properly) and installed an Arctic 33 Freezer plus (whisper quiet bliss!)
it would have been interesting if you mentioned money and how much you would save by buying from cex. i recently bought a gtx 750 ti 2gb zotac. i am sceptical about buying from somewhere like that as the employees have a very "mehhh" sort of customer service attitude. i imagine that the person on the counter who bought my card from a seller just, handed over the money, looked at the card and promptly threw it over his shoulder onto the pile. i dont have a lot of money and thought that maybe if i buy from a shop i would be better off. interesting videos, all the best, simon
I can tell you my old system which was an FX-8320 with a R9 380 and 16gb of memory was pretty good. I even gave it an SSD. Then I threw a vega 64 in before I bought my Ryzen. I still have the SSD and Vega. The system is being used still by my mother to replace her now dead Phenom X3 720.
Grandads old tools came in handy :) - nice job though.... I get PC's arriving like this and it makes me wonder why people don't bother cleaning them up first and they could then get a better price for them.
01:50 in the video, you can see that you have bottom holes, only one of the bottom feet should have been removed to balance the case (front up back down on table), this way there'd have been space under the case for airflow (like for example the MSI Nightblade MI 3 or the ASUS M32AD)
If you can't use screws to attach the foot that came off, you could just have used 3M (double-sided) tape. I did that to attach feet to my cable box since it gets hot and wanted airflow underneath. Whenever I turn it back in I can just pop the feet and 3M tape off.
i feel it should be said, from someone who has experienced this, but using hardware and tools for securing a cooler to a CPU that doesn't have a hard stop or a spring for relief. or at the very least use a torque screw driver or wrench, because it is very easy to brick a motherboard or damage a CPU by applying to much pressure, on top of that almost every LGA socket requires a set amount of torque to allow for proper contact with the pins, and PGA doesn't require much, this is why Epyc and Thredripper come with a torque wrench with a special bit to prevent some random Pearson using a drill to secure there several thousand dollar CPU down to its death
Can you test the Ryzen 3 1200 in 2019? And maybe overclock it? Nice restoration by the way. It looks much better and the washer idea is quite clever. I am just sure if my Ryzen 3 1200 and RX 570 are behaving as they should. I have the latest drivers and enough power, etc.
If you OC the 8320 it usually helps alleviate the stuttering problems. I had a FX 8320 that I replaced with a Ryzen 1600X. You should be able to get 4.2 to 4.5 GHZ (or more if you're lucky) fairly easy if your motherboards up to the task. 970 chip set might be harder to get that 4.5 but a 990 FX chip set usually has a better VRM and should be able to handle a good OC if the CPU is up to the task.
Mostly about cooling (both board and CPU). 970m (micro ATX board, garbage 4 phase) at 4.8 GHz above stock Xeon in terms of stability (does Intel even test the chips? They don’t always handle my tests). It took $3 in mods, some 15mm square heatsinks and 2x 40mm fans, but it was rock solid for 24/7 fluid flow simulation/rendering/etc on a 120mm AIO for FX-8350. I now have it cranked at 1.7 Vcore for 5.5 GHz on phase cooler (sadly, that’s the BIOS voltage limit on my board), but it does fine.
how much ram and whats the speed? if you mentioned it i missed it, i am interested to see if you put 16gb in it, would the frame drops in bf5 go away, i have a similar age and spec system to this which just recently suffers the same issue with frame drops on bf1, this has only just developed as it ran fine before. good vid by the way.
the pc in this video has several problems first is only single channel ram, it needs to be dual channel 8gb is also on the low end for modern titles so 16gb really helps his gpu only has 2gb Vram which is not enough and I don't think he overclocked the cpu and FX cpus really really really need to be overclocked. are you running 8gb in single or dual channel? more so than ram speed, a boost to dual 16gb ram would help with stutters and VRAM amount
Did you contact CEX about this disgraceful excuse for a gaming PC ? Fit for purpose springs to mind :-). Enjoying your video's..keep up the great work by the way
Jeff the Scammer: "I'll never give you your graphics card back." RandomGaminginHD: "Oh, yes, you will. And that's where my buddy comes in." [Puts an old, rusty hammer on the table] 2:28 Lol, take that screw out, silly!
Hey RGiHD, is there any chance you could add Black Desert Online to your gaming tests? It is very well optimised and uses all cores of any CPU I've thrown at it. Even an i9 9900K! :)
Serious question tho, it's under a 24 month warranty and it came completely fucked up why did they not include the new bracket in the warranty for free?
FX 8320 still rocking in mid 2019, wait couple more years before 144hz 4k gpus, and 8 cores become mainstream. oh yeah.. gotto buy a house too by then.
Check out your local dollar store for some "furniture pads", the thick rubber ones make great feet for laptops/desktops/amplifiers/keyboards pretty much anything missing feet.
My only critique is that you talked about integrated graphics, the FX series of processors are notorious for not supporting integrated graphics. I have a mATX motherboard where the gpu covers the pci slot for a network card, and because the motherboard ethernet drivers weren't preinstalled I had to use my laptop to download the drivers, then transfer them via usb to my pc just because of that issue.
biggest problem is the single channel ram , and also that board can run 2133/2400 ram on that cpu easy ,such a great motherboard could produce much more with a nice SET of ram and a few tweaks,it could quite easily make the gpu the bottleneck in all games
I have the Same Build almost 95 % But with an RX 580 and 16 Gigs of Dual Channel Corsair Vengeance Ram. The Games you tested on medium settings I played on High settings easily without any major fps drops with a few graphics tweakings like Shadows and DOF. Even few months ago when I had R9 270X 4GB OC Edition I played TW3 on High. No idea why u r getting that FPS on Medium. Might be the single channel Ram
I got my FX 8320 OC'd to 4.5ghz with an RX 480, and it's been doing quite excellent. maybe OC the 8320? Those VRM's look beefy. also, either the 2gb vram or maybe something overheating causing metro to run that badly.
I think it's the fact he tried to run it on medium settings. A look at the system requirements shows that card should be more than enough for 1080p low. It's nowhere near enough for 1080p high, though. If he dropped the settings to low it might be notably better.
So, I used to work at CeX. Want to know how they test their hardware? They don't. I worked with the company for five long years and not once have I ever seen any tester ever plug in RAM, CPU's, GPU's or anything else. The only thing they test is HDD and SSD's. Anything else, they simply give it the "Sniff" test. If it smells burnt out then they won't take it, but nothing is ever tested. All they do when testing towers and laptops is make sure there's no corrupted parameters on the drives, they check the windows licence to make sure it's legal and that it can run for more than two hours without crashing, freezing or lagging. Then they factory wipe it and out it goes. Desktops aren't checked internally to make sure cables aren't loose or split, the parts aren't checked and they buy it in as what is says in DXDiag. Parts that are brought in over the counter such as RAM, GPU's and CPU's aren't brought in with anti-static bags and the staff at the counter touch all the components that they shouldn't be touching. Then they're stuffed onto a phone stand and put into a display window. NEVER BUY HARDWARE FROM CEX!
Could of been a rush job, a CEX employee packaging used parts togeather, hoping it would sell better that way. I'd try something like that, if I had some parts that didn't sell well.
The radiator should have been installed the other way up, it helps with the lifetime of the pump. Not by much as the pump is not on the top of the loop, but it still affects it.
Should have flipped the AIO rad over so the leads are at the bottom. The water slowly evaporates from them and performance drops but if you mount it the other way the air just gets trapped at the top of the rad.
It's weird that you had hardware-related issues with that build. I usually max out my CPU (OC'd FX6300) when playing FPS games and ReLives captures with no dips whatsoever
I ran into some guy by chance at my college. He asked me if i new how to build a PC because his wouldnt boot. I ended up taking a look at his pc an OH BOI! He installed the standoffs OVER the motherboard. You can imagine how the rest of the build was. Had to start over but it was a beauty by the time i was done with it
Those fiddly motherboard headers.. If you have a spare GPIO extender then I like to make a custom connector, so you can just unplug the whole thing rather than messing about with a dozen little connectors. Just be sure to key it correctly. You can swap them about quite easily too if you change motherboards.
So are CEX unreliable? The RX480 I got the other week is going strong and not giving me any troubles. Needed a bit of light cleaning but nothing major.
ever business has it's bad days and good days, or in this case bad sales and good sales, as it is into used parts for a business as large as CEX there are bound to be bad items sold
The performance problems could be due to bad processor or bad vrms, usually old fx boards not made for a fx8XXX or that were in overclock or in too mich heat for a long time usually present these fps dips. Most commonly its the vrms, unfortunatly a dying board..
@@tonybarden8563 Well, he didnt overclock, but the previous owner could have done that. And as he said himself, the watercooler was hanging off, so the cpu was overheating, it could have damaged the cpu itself or the vrms or even both. About the vrms, i didnt check the manual nor the datasheet of the board, just by looking at a heatsink i cant see how many phases there are in the board. Usually many manufacturers just add these heatsinks above the vrms more to stetics than to actual funcionality. So i usually dont trust that. But if you say that thid board was a great overclocker due to having great vrms, the previous owner could have bought it to do exactly that.
@@eduardoavila646 you not think his main issue was/is using single channel ram .............. and a 2gb gpu i have recently built up quite a few fx8350 systems as the cpu is insanely cheap now to buy new, fitted to a sensible 970 chipset board and dual channel ram at 1866+ these thing do very very well (maybe due to far more games going multicore now than when first launched), also the 83xx visheras offer better performance than the original fx early cpus, there is so many actual owners here with good results using a sensible gpu its hard to ignore
@@tonybarden8563 Yeah, singlechannel ram could potentially cause this issues, but other people awready pointed that, i wrote a alternative possibility. But i used singlechannel ram, its quite bad but its way worse when you use igpus, with dedicated gpus it should'nt be that bad. And the way he said, like lag spikes, could be due instability (cpu requiring more voltage due to being quite used or vrms not supplying voltage). It could also be a usage peak wich the lower bandwidth of the singlechannel ram and the simpler gpu couldnt handle, but its cool to test everything possible. Perhpas he could add some other sticks of ram, a way more powerfull gpu and test to see if its that or really a cpu/motherboard issue.
