I have the ym 1700 grey import, has the same cooling system. Tore my hair out until I realised the ratio of anti freeze affected the convection cooling system. I was using about a 30% mixture and add a bit for for good measure. Wrong, it will not allow the convection system to work. I dropped the ratio to about 20% and the cooling is back to normal. I don't take credit for this solution. I found it on the internet about 6 years ago but don't know who to give credit to. I do like your solution and will look into adding a pump to assist when necessary.

Most of these smaller tractors with the 2 cylinder engines, works by the thermosyphon principle, so they just don't use water pumps. Only on the 3 cylinders and on. This applies for Kubota, Shibaura, Yanmar, etc. All very similar tractors. I had a Kubota B7000 that was exactly like yours, it never overheated on me other than when the radiator got plugged. You did found a nice solution for your problem. Simple and effective. Nice. Greetings from Portugal.

Same here my old Satoh is exactly the same. Curiously also sitting in Portugal. Although I'm on another country, missing the practicality of having a small tractor at hand! Cheers

In my opinion the best engineering is the simplest. Your solution works and is simple and inexpensive. Nice.

Seen the lawn mower and nearly deleted it then was doing something so let it run an low and behold, I learned a lot and really liked this video. I am setting here thinking that the water goes in from the top then saying no it doesn't and really its been that long that I can't remember cept the thermostat is on top and lets water out when hot enough to circulate so your pump is in the right spot. I think that where that hose connects to that engine... the large one that is factory should be able to attach a pipe that is bigger than a half inch and same on the radiator. So finding a little pump to fit might involve moving the radiator forwards to give the room for a system to not be restricted. Of course the argument that you bring is that half inch hose set up will move more water than the original setup. So no harm an no fowl. I like it and the fact that you don't have to break out a welder and reengineer a whole new rad system has my ideas like the ones for row boats on the titanic.

Good idea if the pump can take the heat. The upper hose could run dry and burn the pump out I think. Maybe could wire it to the key switch so it would only come on and off if the tractor was running. Sounds like they really should have had a factory water pump for sure.

Yeah I have some fine tuning to do with the pump, it said it was for hot water haha

If his is like my 1500D the key does nothing that you are thinking. It's for starting only. Once running I can turn the key off, remove it, put it in your pocket, etc. an the tractor keeps running. There is nothing electrical keeping the tractor running. You must shut off the fuel to kill the engine.

Don't they make a water pump kit for the yanmar thay size? It would be a lot more expensive than thay pump but a lot less janky and stuff to go wrong. Also clean all that crap out of the radiator that will help some.

make your antifreeze mixture around 20% antifreeze or a little less ,you should not need your pump

@@TheMechanicDave you should not run 100% water, make sure the valves are adjusted right.
@bobw7066

@@TheMechanicDave You are an idiot, you should never use straight water as it freezes and cracks engine blocks and other bits and also corrodes. The addition of anti-freeze prevents icing up, stops corrosion and the best part of all is that it raises the boiling point of the coolant.
@reelnative01
@reelnative01 2 года назад
@@bobw7066 bib your an idiot, most of us living in the south don’t use anti freeze we use distilled water because anti freeze doesn’t conduct heat as well as water, and they invented a thing called a pressure cap you idiot, that brings up the boiling point to what ever you want it to be, so next time be respectful to a man that probably has forgot more then you will ever know
@georgesimpson3113
@georgesimpson3113 2 года назад
@@reelnative01 Yea, but now they have more modern engine coolants that cool better than water... but he's right about corrosion, etc. (anti-freeze is the old type/old school thinking. Welcome to modern technology. But I'd still run a water pump. ;) 1500D here...
