I would have suggested to take out the alternator all together... it would be just as easy and you can then inspect and clean the entire piece. This is a good fix for alternators that are still in good condition and have not been through significant water.

Another excellent video. The alternator in my diesel HDJ81 seems to be running strong but this seems like an easy and cheaper fix. Thank you for posting.

Good video & info bro...my LC seem low of power nowadays.

My charge light just came on last week on my 3rd gen 4Runner. Multimeter showed no charge. Wiring checked out good, belt tight and clean. Removed alternator to inspect and repair/replace. When I removed the metal cover, my brushes were covered in what looked like copper paste. After removal and cleaning, I noticed the slip rings/contacts on the shaft where the brushes ride had a set of very deep grooves. It would appear that my leaky valve cover gasket allowed oil to get into the alternator, and it ruined it. Not a lot of luck finding a replacement yet.

My 2000 LC (100 series) only clicks when I turn the key. It does not crank. I just changed to alternator and battery recently - couple of weeks. I used Toyota oem parts. I imagine it’s the starter. Do you have any experience with that diagnosis?
