Not sure if referring to someone as a professional driver alone can prevent them from using cocaine and smoking marijuana? The truck driver made the choice to use drugs and drive.

@@ShionWinkler You misunderstood something. They said that unlike other heavy commercial vehicles, concrete pump truck drivers are exempt from on-duty and driving hours in TX (which is absurd) and the company owner isn't required to know and enforce safety laws for their drivers. Regardless of the lack of working hour requirements, those driver's must have a CDL based on weight alone as those trucks can weight three times the minimum required for a CDL in TX.

I was a concrete pump operator for 23 years and yes those trucks are excempt from logs. I would work 80,90 sometimes 100 hrs a week. These companies dont care about safety they only want to make money and if the driver falls asleep behind the wheel and kills somebody the company will says its the drivers fault. But if the driver says hes to tired to drive they will leave him home for a week or more as punishment or fire him and find someone else who will keep his mouth shut and do what they say.

This is a lot of BS from the stupid news media, Concrete pump trucks fall under The 100 air mile exemption. Just like any other commercial truck that stays within a 100 mile radius of home it is exempt from logging in the traditional sense. But they need to carry an exemption log and record the time they start work, and the time they go off duty. They are only allowed to work 12 hours per day. Also they have to obey the same speed limit everyone else does. THE ISSUE IS HE WAS DOING COKE

How about the teacher or construction worker that works many hours every day then has to drive home tired? All the training , experience or regulation means nothing when someone is on drugs or alcohol! The trucking industry is one of the most over regulated industry's in this country. Regulations made by people who know very little or nothing about it! Remember: "If you have it a truck brought it!"

Before you hire, lay down the rules, that must be followed. Do a daily pre-trip, before leaving the yard. Check all tires. Safety (morning) meeting ones a month. I would have a on a Tuesday. Let them all know, random drug testing. I have worked all hours and your free time, is zero. YOU NEED A 24-hour paper BOARD, where the drives can mark out the hours he worded, with a red marker. 7/24 a week. To keep in the dispatch room.
