Sam is back with a Panzer Company from the new D-Day German Book while Jon takes a US Beach Landing Assault Company from the new American D-Day book. They try one of the new missions from the D-Day book.
Thanks for the report. This mission is interesting. I played as an attacking infantry company vs a defending allies armored company as part of the campaign and that was very interesting.
Another great report and a good show of both players in a difficult scenario. You did good regarding the rules, with only one minor thing: at 6:58, you turned the anti-tank guns in the movement phase. That means they moved for ROF. I know you meant to do it in the shooting phase, to face your targets and still have full ROF. Regarding being in Command range of your company HQ, for Unpinning, Rally and Last Stand re-rolls the platoon HQ must be in range, and for remount re-rolls, the actual tank must be within range.
Hi guys! Great battle! I am new to FOW and V4 looks exciting! Keep up the good work! Also, tutorials on the stone walls and bocage would help a lot! :)
Thomas Blunt do what you love I too much prefer the earlier versions which I find far better for wargaming and advanced Fow variation. I find this far too reductive but it’s horses for courses as they say
thanks for checking us out Thomas. out of curiosity what bothered you about it vs. V3? and House of Hengist points out, play what you like. I'm a fan of V4 but I loved V3 as well.
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall well the swapping hits thing i really didnt much care for. It also seemed like cover is ignored now? it looked like the Jagdpanzers were gunning down the guys while in cover without a direct LOS, the few teams i can understand getting hit but the others full behind the hedgerow to me looked totally concealed, unless their heads stood up above the hedges. i dunno maybe im just and old grognard set in his gaming ways. lol
@@bradleymills3185 hard to know what you are asking but in essence Concealment is a mechanical effect that adds +1 to the to hit of a unit that is reasonably obscured by terrain. (I.E. the shot would have to travel through terrain to hit them) by hiding a unit I mean block LOS. Short terrain doesn't block LOS but provides concealment, tall terrain like forests block LOS
Short but enjoyable. Thanks for sharing. I think a Platoon of stuart's would have kept the panzer ivs off the objective for fear of showing side armour, hopefully stalling enough to get some reserves on. You definitely need some quick platoons on the defensive side.
Very true, or as another commentator already mentioned, something with spearhead. The NGF was just worthless and the loss of 12 points that could have been spent on something else really hurt. But sometimes that's what you get when you try to play a themed list.
I love that you used the boat army John but the Navy guns not so sure on that. Kind of like air power that's a lot of points for a 50/50 bet. I mean if they hit its sweet but I think spending 12 pts on a sure thing might have been best. Thanks John love the games.
Agreed. I wanted to pick something thematic for the battle and NGF seemed like a good choice, but with a 60%-40% split mission and those 12 points having to come out of the on table forces it really hurt. Even if I got 1-2 strikes in I would have still been in a world of hurt.
I'm just getting into FoW. I love those hedges and the battle map. What brand is the mat? Any guide on how to make those hedges? I've seen tons of other tutorials on hedges, but I like these the best so far.
Would have been interesting to see the naval guns blast away, so kudos for playing the theme. Sadly the war effort needed those guns hit another targets elsewhere this time. Hindsight is always 20/20, but good use of spearhead by Germans. You could almost see it going like this from the deployment on, but still a nice game :)
Kind of feels like the naval bombardment roll to range in should count *as* the reserves roll. So it's off the table, but if it ranges in then it came in as a reserve for that turn, if it makes sense.
re: taking stuarts instead of the NGFS, do stuarts have a spearhead move? alternatively is there an option for a security section for the M10s that would allow you to spearhead an infantry company onto the german far objective?
In hindsight taking anything with Spearhead would be a good idea. A cheap Cav Recon platoon or similar would be ideal. NGF, at 12 points, is way over costed for what it offers.
They sure can, Infantry can be rock solid on defense but in assault without Armored support they can get chewed up pretty badly. I also like that historically Artillery is the bane of Infantry.
Another great bat-rep. Thanks. In the final infantry assault on the right side objective, once your bazooka hit, should it not be the bazooka Assault rating vs. the Pz IV top armour rather than AT 10 vs. side armour? Still very enjoyable.
I believe you get to choose with a weapon like a Bazooka, it's often better odds to go against the side AT 10 v Side Armor 5, rather than AT 4 v. Top armor 1
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall You, sir, are correct. I did not know this when I typed my first message, but I found it when I was checking something else. Learn something new every day.
Actually, that rule no longer exists. Specialized anti-tank weapons like panzerschrecks and panzerfausts now always use their anti-tank against the side armour of a tank. There's no longer the option to use a different anti-tank value against top armour with these weapons.
Very true. Thanks for pointing out that rule. In this case the infantry that the M-10s did shoot over did not move and were still in their foxholes. Thanks for watching!
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall I was going to say the same thing as in the video you do state that they moved up. The teams in Q may have been stationary though as there was no footage of their starting positions.
@@markfrancis8978 sorry if it wasn't clear on the video. Those were the two HQ teams. They still had their dug-in and gtg markers next to them I believe
just think what the outcome would have been if you put the priests and Tank destroyers on the table with their HE direct fire capability against the German infantry and the Pz Fours instead of your Infantry hanging out in the open to get shot to pieces something to think about
