All Miniatures Great and Small is both a channel and blog dedicated to miniature war gaming. We try to play as many games as possible but have a soft spot for Science Fiction and Historical.
If you think 6 are too much artillery, there ist a version of the Lorraine Schlepper with 7,5 cm PAK. Of course. We put it on every thing with tracks.😅 It's called "Sd. Kfz. 135, 7.5cm Pak 40/1 auf Gw. Lorraine Schlepper 37L(f)". A conversion of 3 of the artillery Schlepper into "Marder" shouldn't be too difficult. But I don't know, if the 21.Panzerdivision used them.
I have this box set too and it's certainly a thematic force rather than a highly competitive force. Just a few observations. The 21st Panzer was in North Africa as part of the Afrika Korps but was rebuilt from next to nothing for Normandy. The 'B' on the dice/tokens is their divisional symbol. I agree it would have been better to have a 3rd assault gun platoon, rather than an extra 3 artillery pieces. I've bilt my artillery as 3 of each type but the 10.5cm is the one to use, mainly because of the smoke. These artillery pieces (15cm) can also be used in an Afrika Korps army, so if you didn't want 6 of them for late war, you could use 3 in your mid war force. I think the best way to expand is to get another assault gun platoon and the armoured multiple rocket launchers, I've ordered some 3d printed ones, as they are are about 1/3 less than the official models and with cheaper postage. I've gone for more 7.5cm ones, although historically, the extra platoon would have been teh 10.5's. If you wanted a tank platoon in support, the 21st were mostly equuipped with late Pz IV's along with some old French Somua S35's and a few PzIII's (not sure what model), which they use for recce (they still had armoured car recce). I did also get the Panzer Lehr box, as I wanted to start again with Panzer Grenadiers, so I wanted the infantry and halftracks, plus the dice/token set. I think you should do a battle report at some point using the 21st Panzer assault guns. The historical opponents would have been the British, as they were fighting around Caen, so break out those Sherman V's!
Thanks for the comments. I eventually decided on 3 x 10.5cm and 3 x 15cm as well for the most flexibility. I ended up kitbashing some 3d printed Rocket launchers and found a decent count as for the 2cm AA tracks. Also found a decent STL for the Hotchkiss so printed out a 3rd platoon for the formation. I'll have a separate video for that as well.
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall Nice, I'll see if I can find that, I don't have a 3d printer, so ordered my other bits ready printed. I already had the armoured cars and AA halftracks. Also note that the 21st panzer Panzergrenadier force can have the recce grenadiers in the little 250 halftracks as a 2nd platoon, so you don't need more of the funny French halftracks to run those either
Also video idea, can we get a battlefront game where teamyankee units go up against a flames of war force of equal points? I think it would be fun, even if a little onesided. You may have to limit team yankee side from using the highly armored stuff like leopard 2s or abrams.
Battlefront: a company that convinced you to buy big tanks, then made it so they never won, so releases a game of just tank to get to buy more useless models, then again the big tanks lose. Thanks for the report. Mark is my favorite of your opponents.
I think I saw in the rulebook tank start the game "camouflaged", which gives tank a +2 to hit even if it starts in flat, open terrain. It is similar to the FOW rule for gun teams and infantry that start the game in foxhole. Hence, the Maus needed an 8 to hit the Comet on turn 1. The explanation is tank have set up camouflage net on it at the start of the battle.
The way players choose the mission and mission rules is pretty interesting. I can imagine the amount of different combinations will keep you on your toes. The objectives giving bonuses is also a nice touch. I do wonder what gap this game is going to fill. Is it simply a more tank-focused FoW? Because those games already exist.
Thanks for playing & posting the game. This is only the second COS battle report I have seen on RU-vid. I actually had expected more. I am almost done building the models from three US vs Soviet Starter Sets. I am looking forward to playing. Based on the two battle reports, it appears the game turn into a melee around the objectives, which gets crowded. Hope you guys play some more and post them as available. Thanks again.
@@kaipoh265yeah I was experimenting with the “Hammerfall” intro set. Those auxiliary fuel tanks are a pain imo. I probably won’t bother putting them on the next time I build T-64s.
The 2 different built tanks are T-80's and T-64's, maybe it's what they painted from the starter set? The T-80's, T-64's and BMP-3's are Soviet only so perhaps do a Soviet force? I run my Soviet/Warpac stuff as whichever I fancy at the time. I've got loads of T-72's and T-72B's, which can be used for loads of different nations but then I've also got Soviet only stuff.
Always good to go to events (mostly) but the tables were mostly very uninspiring, that green table was dire! Pity there was so much blue on blue too, so much for the Soviet invasion of the US 🤔
First of All you had some fun 😇 That green table was very green, my god. Just the picture or really that bright? Are those open table normal in the US? A bit to open for my Taste.
If anything the photos do not so the green table justice. it was terrible. I dont go to a lot of tournaments so I don't know the tournament meta for terrain. I will say that at this event the majority of the tables were on the light side when it comes to terrain.
I had really fun opponents for all 3 of my games (only played one day). However, I was pretty disappointed with the tables, theme (there was really nothing that said we were playing Invasion USA) and mission selection. I was excited to play Airborne Assault round one with my VDV but it turns out that we weren’t playing that mission. Definite bummer as no way you’re going to use airborne assault in a regular mission.
Thanks the building are a mix of Wargame Forge and Lumos Miniature Terrain, both can be found at MyMiniFactory. I did a review of the Wargame Forge stuff in this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w2we603Ys4M.html
Thanks for the great vid. I was stressing getting into the game b/c I thought I’d be assembling 15mm people and I don’t have the vision or patience for that.
I really don't but I wish I did. I love painting Spaceships and Starfleet ships are always dear to me. A couple of things keep me from making gameplay videos. One, I don't have any SFB players local. Two I'm not sure a game of SFB would translate to my preferred way to make battle reports. three. SFB games take forever :). Might look at Call to Arms Star Fleet as a faster play but still need opponents
Hello John . Do you have a video demo of playing this game ? I like the miniatures and models , thinking of diving into the game. I too love wwii ships in space!
I don't but I would love to. As I get older I find the models a little too small for my liking. I'd love some Yamato gaming with models the size of the Bandai mini kits but at a consistent scale. Ulitmate wish is someone steps up and starts making STLs of the ships of Yamato. I would buy the HELL out of that range.
