I actually took first place in a tournament last February with a support platoon of 3 Hetzers. They did a lot better than I thought they would! They did a good job supporting my Storm Grenadier Company

The jgd panzer 38 (hetzer) used a kwk 7.5 L39 gun The stugs started with the 7.5 L24 through 7.5 L48 depending on the period of the war you are in early, middle or late in early used mostly as close support artillery for infantry

I have read that Germany wanted to continue producing Stugs. But the factory where production was relocated (after bombing) did not have a crane capable of lifting the weight of the Stug. Therefore they had to produce this lighter vehicle.

chezh factories were not capable to produce heavy stugs so they put new gun on old chezh panzer38t hull and thats it,

Hetzer was my favorite tank destroyer as a kid. prolly gonna have to get some for just that reason.

Nice video! I think Lindybeige did an interesting video on the Hetzer, as I remember the crews really hated them.

Their stats were significantly better in V3. so I have a full company of them. I plan on still running all 14 of them in V4, I am a sucker for terrible tanks.

I have to wonder if the MG was 3 shots and 360 degree if that would have jacked up the cost to 5pts a tank... and if that would be a deal breaker.

well one thing I will houserule for sure is the historical inaccuracy regarding the MG, it could fire 360 degrees and, unlike the Stug, it could be fired from the inside without exposing the gunner if needed. This really triggers me, because I do not believe that removing the forward firing nerf would imbalance or justify a point more of cost.

Covered most of the basic points. I'm curious myself to see how they play on the battlefield. I watched a game with a hetzer company and it seemed fun but still had to rely on panzer IV for heavy lifting.

We've played a few games with Hetzer Platoon, more we've found, it's very terrain dependent. Lots of wood are not a friend to the hetzers, lots of obstacles like wall and hedges are great! Also you want to defend with them, Attacking is really not what they are designed for.

I find it a bit funny that you have the loader or gunner out of the hatch rather than the commander (who would be on the back right downslope)

That is the only hatch that can be modelled in the open position using the part in the plastic kit

Any idea in which book the flame version is included. I could not find it. Bagration German but where? I built three hetzers out of the plastic sprue with the flame cannons.

Would it be useful to contrast it with SS stugs? Given almost the same cost certainly an intresting trade off

I'm on the fence with the Hetzer. I can see it being a useful addition in some ways, but that cross check of 5+... I see way too many terrain problems. Heck, I struggle with 4+ units like the STUG!

the 5+ is very hard to get over, but i find the overworked gun even harder.
