When I first saw the Flayers,I thought that the virus was actually a necron weapon that was used to turn humans into the Flayers and the reason they had skin was because it was slowly peeling away as the victim turned.

Some of the stuff mentioned is actually explained in the boom series the twice dead king It tells us how the flayed dimension is formed How the flayed ones can travel What the Flayed ones dimension looks like And that valgûl is a mythological and was made up as a way for early onset flayed ones to hold on to their sanity as experienced by high admiral yenekh of the ithican dynasty

Hey y’all if u want to know more details of the flayed ones read the Twice Dead King duology. Minor Spoiler: In the book they go over what a necron experiences when they become a flayed one physically and mentally as well as how other necrons feel about the flayed one. They also go over the origins of the flayed ones and the bone kingdom as well as clears up some lore on flayed ones.

Honestly the old origin of the flayed ones sounds way darker. Can you imagine waking up but not being able to move. For THOUSANDS OF YEARS if not longer? Then going so insane that you wear flesh just to try and feel normal and your buddies feel bad for you so they just kinda let you and then keep you around as a pet. That’s low key grimdark as hell.

Fun fact : in the video game Mechanicus, the tech priests encounters Flayed Ones for the first time and they have no idea what they're looking at. One of them even speculates that they are juvenile necrons.

The most interesting thing with the flayed ones is that they are incredibly loyal to the necron race and still love their dynasties, but because they can't talk it was never known by the necrons, until one realized they talk in a sort of morse code tapping with their claws, he had a convo and it was actually really sad.

I’m pretty sure the bone kingdom is now ruled by oltyx the twice dead king. The reason I think this is because in the twice dead king: reign when they arrive on drazact there is nothing there apart from an empty city a thrown and a crown plus all the necrons that became flayers while fleeing from the imperium of mans crusade. Also I would to think that the ghost wind is kind of like the flayers dimension.

yeah thaught so too also the dimension thing is that all flayers basically can use the ghost wind at will aka they can insta teleport wherever the fk they want whenever they want altho i dunno if the curse thing is still cannon as the tale speaks of the dysphorak "remnant of instinctive behavior of a body of flesh" which as the tale indicates in the mind of every necron all the sensations and stuff are filtered through so that they dont think about it but eventually it breaks down and then they go coo coo they all do in the end

*Moderate spoilers for Caves of Ice.* The fear from the flayed ones has some warp fuckery to it. In Caves of Ice an elite squad loses their minds simply though the fear aura the flayed ones project. It also gets to Cain however Jurgen's blankness blocks the effect . The flayed ones also become confused and disoriented near him (kinda like the effect he has on genestealers).

Theory time. What If the death-cry of the Flayer actually created the first vestiges of what would come to be Nurgle?? hence some meaning behind the “Grand-Father” moniker placed upon him. Not quite a full blown birthing of a chaos god, like with Slanesh’s conception. But more like a Murmur or Ripple of sentience within the warp, that ever so slowly grew over time.

@@callumduckworth7490 The Necrons have no souls Anymore, but they definitely used to. That is how they where able to fatten up the C’tan in the first place, by trading their souls for immortality and the C’Tan grew more powerful as they consumed further life in Galaxy during the war. But what I am surmising is, that when the Necrons successfully destroyed the Flayer C’tan (as opposed to shattering it, like they did the other C’tan) then that event in-of-itself was catastrophic enough to have created the first “ripples” of sentience, that would eventually become known as Nurgle. Maybe the destruction of a C’tan will cause the immediate release of the countless amount of souls it had gorged itself upon during its “physical” endeavours.

Hey Majorkill! I love the videos their humor and quick pace is fantastic. I just wanted to let you know something about that first piece of art you used for the necrons. It's actually from a Magic the Gathering card called Pierce Strider. They come from a place called Phyrexia which has some biomechanical goodness but it is definetly mtg not 40k. If you already knew this I apologize for wasting your time. Besides good 40k art can be hard to come by so I understand using what you can for stuff like this.

Honestly, necrons need more flayer units. there a really old and interesting part of the lore representing the only real corruptive threat to the necrons. There should be a whole flayer range: fast attack quadrupedal extra feral flayers, transitioning flayers who can both shoot and fight in melee, flayers fused together in monstrous hulking masses of shambling necrodermus, necrotects focused on flesh warping who get stronger for the more kills your side makes bechause there's more biomass to work with, *but most of all I know as a fact there's a flayed one named character and he deserves a model.* I just want so see the flayed ones get fleshed out a little ... pun intended.

Tbh I'm glad this came out because I never knew much about Flayed ones. Always thought they were necrons on a campaign to become "human" again. Never thought of a Virus.

Who does the Egyptian aesthetic better Nectons or 1000 Sons? I’d say the pre heresy 1000 sons did it best the red power armor with the hyroglyphs scarab imagery.
