So important that PCP know how antibiotics can affect tendons. 2 years ago, mine prescribed Fluoroquinolone to me right before told her I was participating in a tournament and she said nothing - and I didn’t know about the danger. Sure enough, after the tourney I developed a severe reaction in the tendon behind my knee near my hamstring. It will still occasionally flare up if I don’t warm it up appropriately. How does a person find a knowledgeable doctor or physical therapist or orthopedic doctor?
For me, a female with EDS, this is pure gold information. Thank you. I lift heavy weights and try and counteract the Beighton score of 9/9 I have by staying mobile and strong. But if I do get an injury, guaranteed it is tendons or ligaments through overuse 😟
Such an informative episode! Currently seeing a physical therapist for multiple tendon issues. The info here has helped me understand what went wrong with my training and what to do and not to do in the future. Thank you, Dr. Lyon, for bringing on the wonderful guest! ❤❤❤
Excellent podcast. I learned a lot. Im 66yo, and was listening while doing a morning 6k trail run just before crossfit thinking - " a ripped Achilles tendon would really suck" - so - turned the heat down a bit -- also made me realize that a shoulder pain I have when lifting is probably tendonitis - I'll get it checked - many thanks - now I know what medical specialization to contact. now I can say "Im Q3 'stiff and strong' and whining like a baby about a shoulder pain"

Interesting... there was zero discussion about tendon glycation. Tendon glycation is a process where sugar molecules, such as glucose, attach to proteins in the tendons, forming harmful compounds known as advanced glycation end products (AGEs). This process happens naturally as we age, but it can be accelerated by high blood sugar levels, as seen in diabetes or diets high in sugar and refined carbohydrates. When AGEs accumulate in tendons, they can make them stiffer and less elastic, leading to a higher risk of injury and slower healing. Reducing sugar intake, maintaining a healthy diet, and managing blood sugar levels can help minimize the impact of glycation on tendons.
Very helpful . Thanks . Supraspinatus tendinopathy in both shoulders. Prp in bith a few months ago and red / infrared light therapy daily has helped a lot I can box again and train but it's all about maintenance as there's still some pain but much less than before . Loading the tendons also using isometrics
🏋️♀️I’m a Yogatherapist practicing a Bio-enviro-psychic-socio-philosophical model of care specializing in longevity. For a biologically proficient physical body sustain by eating natural whole plant foods optimized by moves (asana, vinyasa, kriya). Kriya, is dynamic stretching occurring before exercise as a warm-up to moves which will be utilized during a workout, vinyasa is a breath per move such as the valsalva inhalation protecting the spine during heavy loads which is expectorated once the load is safely placed, asana is an isometric hold which is the greatest indicator of strength. Yoga is mindful (without injury) stretching, which allows for greater strength gains, stabilizing & strengthening🧘♀️
@drgabriellelyon Thanks for another informative and useful podcast. However, in regards to Yoga, it is unfortunate that whenever it is mentioned by specialists they think only about stretching postures. We must be always mindful that Yoga stretching postures are only one aspect of its practice, the least important actually, which is unfortunately taken to useless limits in modern postural yoga. Deep breathwork and meditation are integral parts of the authentic practice. And that is something perhaps everyone would benefit from.
I have hypermobility EDS. My left supraspinatus supposedly has a full thickness tear with 27mm retraction of something that is in the “footprint” of the supraspintus, as per CT scan with contrast. Can’t have an MRI because of the total shoulder replacement. I have supraspintus function though. On diagnostic ultrasound, the interpretation was something different - avulsion type fracture that healed as a bridge between the tendon and the tendon attachment, allowing for partial function of the muscle. Any thoughts? I plan to have a second ct w/contrast next month.
I should be on here, 7 years of multiple full tears in my hip, neuropathy in my hips, tendonopathy in whole leg, bursitis. No surgery, no needles, no roids, all self healing
yes I had greater trochanteric pain complex for years. It started with tears in minor glute from injury in 2009, and medius glute was shown a few years later as well, after years of therapy. I ended up being full blown bursitis pain, not being able to walk etc. sleep was hell. Therapy at the Physio did not help, Dry needling did not help, blood product injections did NOT help. five cortisone injections over three years did NOT help Stretching made it worse in my opinion. I am now able to walk, cycle and and carry a weighted back pack, with no limping and no pain and no night pain, from being unable to walk far without pain limping and giving up - and not being able to sleep from pain, hobbling when I got out the car etc. my healing took place in 2020 - so I had ten years of the problem. My tendons were inflamed, plus bursitis plus pain, but ageing weakness. (atrophic changes) not a bit of pain now. I wish I had done what I did to heal the pain, at the beginning instead of going to physio and wasting money on PRP and dry needling and so on. I hope treatment is better now - my mistake was going to therapy and having 'stretching' that make the tears worse. Then I kept walking instead of using walking sticks... which I didn't discover till too late - taking weight off was not advised to me. The PRP was put in my thigh but the problem was coming from the tears which affected my gait which affected my tendon. thinking about a problem means treating the root cause. I strengthened my glute muscles, did not stretching, used walking sticks, adjusted all my chairs so I didn't sit - stood instead of sat etc. Did a lot of massage to move inflammation out of the hip to sleep well etc lots of hot water exercise but mostly extension of the leg. I presume I still have the tears, but I have no pain. strengthening the glute muscles is key to helping support and weight support and not sitting. Atrophy as he says makes it WORSE
Here’s a question. Do you need to eat meat protein if you take essential amino acids. And Bcaas and creatine in supplement form? Sometimes I just don’t feel like eating meat. I eat eggs most mornings. Sometimes get bored of eating chicken and fish. I can’t eat to much red meat as I have hemochromatosis and my body stores to much iron.
Why do you take branch chain amino acids if you are already taking the essential aminos? The essential amino acids are superior to the BCAAs which are already included in the BCAAs.
@@Petunia-fl9lu Not equivalent in amino acids. And one amino acid is Taurine. There is no taurine in almost al plants. A little bit may be found in nuts and a certain seaweed. Google where taurine is found.
What makes you think they’re not getting better without it? You keep working on the front and I’m sure we’ll know more about it and have doctors and experts offer it once people see that it actually works. As of now, you sound crazy, sorry to say.
Thank you both for sharing. are you talking about oxalate arthropathy? it is a RARE cause of arthritis characterized by deposition of calcium oxalate crystals within synovial fluid. I've never heard of oxalates affecting ligaments. My 90 year old mother the most flexible person I know - she can put her hands flat on the floor in a standing position, does yoga, has no tendon issues, eat a ton of bean, lentils, fruit and veg and nuts (and meat and eggs and dairy). your body makes oxalates. they are not a problem unless you have a problem... and you know if you have a problem I guess. it's kind of like saying 'calcifying tendinopathy of the shoulder ' is caused by calcium. it's not. there's something going on systemically that upsets the balance - like gallstones. not everyone gets them on the same diet.
Wish I knew the damage plants do 40 years ago. 3 years low carb/zero plants and I'm still dumping oxalates. I was vegetarian/vegan for 30 years and oblivious to the damage I was doing to my body.
@@jgfergusnever vegan, but vegetarianism nearly did me in. Still paying the piper. I was thinking they should have at least mentioned oxalates. But hardly any medical or physical professional knows much about the issue.
I disagree. Plants can help to decrease hyperlipidemia which have been linked to tendon pathology: Yang Y, Lu H, Qu J. Tendon pathology in hypercholesterolaemia patients: Epidemiology, pathogenesis and management. J Orthop Translat. 2018 Aug 6;16:14-22.
would love to see gabrielle with shorter hair and party shaved perhaps. i think it would suit her and make her look younger and funky. not digging this long hair. looks a bit old for her face.
@ALKATRAZ99 her long hair is perfectly fine. All those ridiculous "party" shaves look id!0tic. Keep your personal fantasies to yourself and focus on the topic.
