I just saw 'John Hand Drill' Flint And Steel ignite crumbled up Mullein leaves. It took several strikes to get an ignition that wouldn’t go back out. I think adding ash to the mix will help solve both problems by making it ignite quicker and stay ignited. Let’s do a proof of concept. Please follow the LINKs below and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You! I think it needed more ash from just looking at it, but I don’t know squat compared to you David. I don’t even know what Mullen leaves are, lol. That stuff looked so light and fluffy, it looked like it would ignite really easy, but it sure didn’t. I really enjoy your fire making videos, even more so when it is cold.
Great experiment, David. I bet the leaves came off our movie star mullein plant! It makes me wonder how little of a spark off a Ferro rod it would take to ignite it. I am trying to think of a tool that would cast a small spark off the end of a rod…kinda how the empty bic does it. Hmmmm. Not that one needs to preserve a rod, but what if you could?
