I know jersey had closed a lot of places because of the off road vehicle use. The problem is people don't stay on the marked paths and just destroy habitat. Definitely a shame. The barrens are getting bad too

Beautiful salamanders, Will. The venter of that four-toed was awesome. The marbled’s are a wonderful species. Only found one … that one under a log in east Texas back in the ‘70’s. I was blessed to find a number of tiger’s in a playa lake in the Texas panhandle back in 1979. I was on a research trip with a grad student at Texas A&M then. Great times.

Amazing! I was out about an hour ago to try and find marbled salamanders at a known site, incredibly rare here in Massachusetts. I did find an adult male Eastern Newt though :)

Very nice tiger salamander but also nice marbled salamanders. I may like the latter more. Even though they say that it is a common species, as a non-American all are equally exotic to me. I still haven’t even found my native European fire salamander, which is also very striking. Marbleds in particular never get old. They are always large, prominent and with very high contrast. I am also amazed on their reproduction. Very few non-plethodontid salamanders lay their eggs on hunt. Plethodontids are much more agile than ambystomatids though. Those don’t seem quite aware that you have caught them. Also, are off roaders that terrible? When large animals do the same damage, they claim it is natural and no one complains. For smaller animals, damage is damage no matter who causes it.

Here in Arizona we have tiger salamanders they are also endangered

That's cool how some female salamanders guard their eggs. My five lined skinks guard their eggs too. My female skinks have a tendency to pile their eggs in the same location and all of the females will guard them. I don't know how common it is for the females to nest and guard their eggs together in the wild.

I don't quite understand the context of the ATV tracks- is that a road?

That tiger salamander was certainly a male with it's long compressed tail and large cloaca.
