I miss one important moment from the first book which hasn't been illustrated. That moment is when Harry gets his wand. I think that moment should have been illustrated! It could have been such an amazingly beautiful illustration. Just picture Harry with a surprised - happy look on his face while the wand stands still in his hand and sparkles shiny stars everywhere in Ollivander's shop.
@Princessthyemis I guess Jim Kay wasn't told what to paint, he just did what was inspiring him the most, what was awakening his interest and creativity (or at least that's how I picture illustrators' work) - And here I must "agree" with him, if I were to illustrate the book, for some reason I wouldn't choose that moment in Ollivander's shop either. But I feel you, I belive each one of us has his/her own "key moments" in the book that he would like to see illustrated, but they weren't ;-).
@@SkyBlueDesign1 But that's such a key moment in every witch and wizard's life. A wand is the most useful object a wizard can have, an extension of the wizard, and they choose their master. It's such an obvious inclusion.
It’s funny, from the moment I read Harry Potter 7 years ago to now, I’ve thought of it as an “adult” book. But after seeing those beautiful illustrations, I remember that it actually is a “kid” book that just continues to be amazing regardless of age.
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I got the book for Christmas and was just thrilled. As much as I love all the characters in the movies, these illustrations really hit it spot on with the descriptions in the book. McGonagall looks just like I had her pictured (no disrespect to Maggie Smith). From the Dursley's to Ron to Malfoy, it's just how I had originally pictured them. Like you, I cannot wait for the upcoming books. Can't wait to see what he does with Argus Filch and Luna Lovegood.
This is beautiful. Just ordered a copy. I grew up loving Harry Potter and while I've tried to pass on that love to my daughter she just doesn't care to sit and read long chapter books, instead preferring graphic novels. i think this may be the way to get her interested in the Harry Potter world! I wanted to see a flip through before deciding so thank you so much for taking the time!
@Amanda Gornall Exactly my thoughts! My son is too little for Harry Potter at the moment, but "the right age" approaches fast and I thought, "I must get him a copy of this illustrated version when the right time comes, because this may be the way to get him interested in Harry Potter!" :-)
I believe that the plank space end of the chapters is there because in different languages text can take more (or less) space so translating the book doesn't mess up the pages and illustrations :)
Wow these illustrations are amazing! Thanks for sharing! I'd love to own this book, and all the illustrated editions when they come out. My only 'complaint' is that they made Hogwarts seem way to austere instead of friendly, exciting and welcoming, considering it's the first book. Otherwise I totally loved it!

I honestly don't understand why they didn't have Mary Grandpre illustrat it. Not only did she do the cover art and art above each chapter heading, she even created full colored scenes from the books, including the one where Harry gets his wand.
@Literateknolohitura.com It seems to me they intentionally went for an "old times" look. It was usual tens years ago that the books had a one (dull) color textile cover and then there was a (more or less) colored paper jacket. I actually quite like it, it reminds me of my childhood :-D.
I haven't watched the whole video, because i don't want to get spoilered. Just to page 46, where i'm at the moment. One question. Are there as much pictures at the end or later part of the book, as there are at the beginning? Because i was fascinated that almost an every page there is some kind of a drawing some bigger some smaller.

could you please do a flip through of chamber of secrets,if and when you buy them?i've seen other flip through videos,but your commentary is just so good,and has the true feels of a true harry potter fan..so if you could do the flip through of the second book with a commentary,it would be a really nice experience☺😃
I definitely want to collect this edition when I have enough saved up.. The only thing I don't like about this edition is that they have the 2 rows of writing on each page. And for someone like me who gets easily distracted by words I see out of the corner of my eye - It's hard to keep on track without seeing spoilers, lol ( I've read all of the books.. It just kinda ruins the moment for re-reading for me). The other thing is that they have a lot of pictures of spiders and I'm a big arachnophobe'. One spider is too many for me, lol. ( Honestly I will probably cover them up with post-it notes, haha 😅😂
I loved that platform 9¾ but I think they missed a shot of filling it with more characters instead of blurring them out. I'd be fun finding out different characters.
I've seen all the films but actually never read one book of harry potter. But I have always been intrigued to reading the books but never have. What I find most fascinating are the characters look noting like the actors in the film, the characters all have their own unique looks which I suppose are based on the books and not the films. It's great to actually see the books come alive as we are all so used to the films and what the characters look like. Now for the first time ever we can see what the visual of the books looks like and not something that's based on the films but fully based on jk rowling HP books. I think I will enjoy the books better then the films. I got to get my hands on reading them now.
May I ask? Are the words in this book exactly like from the original book? Except that this version has got pictures while original books only got words in it..
Thank you for sharing! My heart broke for poor little Harry at the mirror. Dumbledore advises him that it does not do to dwell, but oh, for that one moment he looks like he wants to crawl into the mirror with them. I could dwell on that picture forever!
@Rhonnie. You did a nice job there, thank you. As you were wondering about the half blanks at the end of each chapter: its traditional. Go look at antique books and you'll find this done everywhere. Even in modern versions of hardback editions. They don't have to save on paper. By the way, I got the kindle in motion version, very beautiful, where I can have the book with me, any time, and show it to friends everywhere.

I think they left those blank spaces at the chapter ends because they planned to release this edition in different languages. The same text can be longer in a foreign language edition.
