Well here it is. We listen to our viewers and everyone wants to know what FPV system we use. In this episode, we talk about our FPV gear as well as show you how it works. If you haven't tried FPV yet, you don't know what your missing out on.

Flite Test was created for people passionate about RC flight. Our hope is to create a show for the people that build and fly planes and helicopters as a hobby. They are the dreamers and engineers that get a thrill from the first hand launch of a maiden flight. The show will personify the veteran and the beginner alike giving them a chance to share common experiences with others, in turn, enhancing the RC community. The goal is to develop a creative outlet that allows us to work in our passion daily. Flite Test is designed to cater to the audience. gotta love wings, i've had a windrider ele-bee for over 2 years now, and it has hit everything from dogs to 6 year olds to flag poles to houses, and it still flies like a dream.

@ReDnEcKrCrAcInG Just glue it back together. You have to reinforce it with tape. I add a fiberglass rod across the fuse and put Goop on the leading edge. Mine has been wrecked HARD and repaired many times and I still fly it. It's the one Joab was flying in this video. -Chad

@RKuyoth I use the Futaba 7C FM system for my FPV Maxi Swift. It woks great! I've been two miles away and still had strong signal. Watch the FPV Balloon Pop challenge and you see mine. -Chad

I had the same idea of mounting the transmitter and camera practically on top of each other in order to switch airplanes easily and take up the least amount of space but I also feared that it would cause a severe noise floor. I guess it is kind of suitable if you aren't doing anything serious. I still remember trying out someone's else's fpv system and the part that especially made me dizzy was the fact that it was a slow stick with an exaggerated dihedral.

Great vid, parkflier low spec fps but fun and cheap, Joab was alright, flew nice. One thing, maybe I'm just getting old but the lip ring, urgh, took a long time to realise it wasn't a disfiguring cut/scab from a punch up. Gotta say I like Josh better but Joab was not a disapointment. Keep the good vids coming and let Josh and Joeb dogfight!

@jayc004 The signal was blacking out because they flew out of the zone for the directional antenna on the ground station.

2 lock outs on the DX8, not to mention the reboot time on the first. Not good. Those plane locators are a must for some. Our field is surrounded by corn and beans and nearly impossible to even find a 30% if it lands off strip.

@cod4madass Most likely it's the Spektrum transmitters and DSM2. DSM2 can do funny things, locking onto 2 channels, but using only one. Interference and shadowing can get planes down quickly. This issue occures a lot more often than the math suggests. Also DSMX still has more issues than the average FHSS system.

Hobbyking is known for its lack of manuals. I got the fpv camera and the transmitter/receiver but little i knew that the transmitter is 12V (as it says in the case) and the camera is 5V (no info about this anywhere). They are connected by a cable that fits perfectly... with the little problem that the camera will get the full 12V and will be damaged. I did not see any comments about this in your video.

This was 4 years ago and the radio was spektrum so not hobbyking and it was dsm2 back the. So way more common to have lockouts hen but it's way better now!

@cod4madass Yeah! Same thoughts here. If it's 2,4Ghz video and 2,4Ghz radios, then they were begging for trouble. For what it's worth, I sometimes fly near power pylons and they do not usually cause any interference. Worst thing that can happen is flying into a cable.

amasing how many people still trust there planes to a spektrum tx loosing control with even the plane in sight is really a bad thing 4 to 6 seconds reboot time is even worse i was thinking of making something like this now i dont need to think anymore :) thanks

Nice video, so what is needed to start FPV? Obviously camera & goggles but what else? The HK site has all kinds of variations of setups and packages, but if you just want a goggle setup what is recommended? And what setup are you using on the Swift?

You should open the tx before you connect the battery otherwise you imagine ;-)

I was expecting some comments about the lock-outs / drop-outs. Was it due to distance? Anything to do with the HT powerlines?

One question Josh said that their would be pictures and info on how to make it on the website but I have cheeked and there is not. On your website you say there will be more detail but it is mostly brief. I hope you guys could fix it! Thanks

I still have some FM Futaba gear laying around. Am I better off going with that on an FPV setup? I've heard some people say the 2.4 was locking out due to the 1.2 transmitters for the camera. Others say a different antenna would fix it, still another said it's a location issue. I know $50 is cheap to get into it, but I'd rather not risk $400 worth of money, and my time for something that is marginal at best. I don't have a $50 model to slap it on, and if I did I would still want more reliability

I have to say, there is no way I will be parting with $58 for the simple FPV setup from hobbyking after that video. The definition was poor, the signal blacked out so many times I am amazed they even got that much flying done!

What do you all think of the FrSky 2.4 V8JT In the Fly Sky 9X for a radio? I see you use DX a lot and I would like to see what you think of this set up, it was just a plug and bind. I used the one for JR. thank you for your hard work.

I have a suggestion why don't you put a gyro on the "Bomb" to stabilize the flight on the way down

Well yeah, if you crash you dont get another chance, but its an FPV craft and you arent fighting anyone, just like practicing on a hardcore server except you have wind and other things to deal with.

Good video :) Are those 1.2 ghz fpv transmitters, they looked it, which would explain your lockouts if your on 2.4ghz rc control. Bad design though, the vtx should be far away from the camera out on the wing. I wish hobbyking would get some real fpv pilots to desing these kits, then the rookie mistakes wouldnt be built in

So what was the problem with the planes at the end? The video was a bit low quality and didn't stay very stable. Is this normal for FPV flying? Why'd the planes lock up and stop responding at some points?
