We're loving all the great reactions to Floor! Over the years we've had the pleasure to talk with Floor on a number of occasions so for those that are interested here's a link to a playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLMxYdDXM45ESWt1ncXty9Bph1iwqgsJnF (a few are in Dutch though) And also a link to our interviews with other Nightwish members: ru-vid.com/group/PLMxYdDXM45EQBuxR20_gbi4gf0zojyhmz Thanks for watching everyone!
As usual, Floor is a fascinating interviewee. Not only a true favorite of mine but so full of interesting things to talk about. You really covered so much I would have asked her if I could have. Thanks!
Floor, I must confess that I'd never heard of you or Nightwish prior to the Phantom Of The Opera video. Now, I'm a fan of yours and have also become a fan of Nightwish. You and your band are terrific! (66 year old guy in US)
@@The_Pony Don't be too mad, it's a TV channel and TV is such a bureaucratic field, they didn't do it just to be mean, more like the did it because it would've been more effort for them to change their copyright arrangements in general
There isn't a single negative thing about this woman - she's smart, humble, logical, friendly and extremely talented. I am so happy she's being so productive on the scene.
What a bright, articulate and engaging woman. She is a delight to hear and props to the interviewer for asking good questions and handling the English well.
As a Dutch person I also had no clue about the band Nightwish. I heard about Evanescence and Within Temptation ofc and find they made beautiful music....but until recently I came across Nightwish on YT and I was WTF!?! How come we never heard of this band in NL and the singer is even a Dutch woman? I first listened to Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013 version) and I was WOW!! ThIs kind of music sounds magical! The chemistry between the members is just awesome. So I tried a few more songs of that great festival and I was totally blown away....literally every song was just a masterpiece. The composition, the deepness of the lyrics, the great instrumental plays and ofc last but not least ‘our’ finally famous Dutch singer Floor. Floor is amazing...not only as a. singer but also as a person. Great personality! Her musical talent is out of this world. I never heard a person sing so many genres in 1 voice. Some RU-vidrs call her the female Freddie Mercury...which I can agree with...some ask ‘how many voices does she have?!’ And so on. Im really grateful my generation can witness a band like Nightwish. Just after a few days Im a big fan now. Keep up Floor!
What a gift she has been to Nightwish. Finding someone who could handle the vocals for those songs would be hard enough, but finding someone who is the whole package with the vocals, the stage presence, who actually loves the music, and being beautiful is a bonus! Not something that comes along very often. She is the missing puzzle piece for Nightwish.
As a relatively new fan of Nightwish and Floor, interviews like this fascinate me. Talent aside, this is a very confident, knowledgeable artist. If she were arrogant in any way, and clearly she’s not, I’d not have the respect I have for her. Very insightful interview.
I am a 53 year old Australian male who through venturing down the you tube rabbit hole one night struck upon Nightwish and ultimately Floor. For a man who was one that hated heavy metal, I love Nightwish and the genre. In my opinion, Floor is the most astounding female vocalist on the planet at the moment, tragically not as recognised as she should be. The series Beste Zangers has introduced Floor to a whole new audience. Floor and Henk performing Phantom of the Opera is the penultimate version of this song. Love her!!
Floor is such a role model for creative people, she’s so down to earth and ‘normal’, in the sense that you could have a regular conversation with her without being intimidated. No trace of egotism. Such a humble and inspiring person, just with this unworldly musical talent!
too rational, i found her emotionless, lack of raw emotions on stage, bad for metal. but it just my opinion, i will go to show in next year and maybe change it.
@@xrgiok Lol if you find her emotionless than you have issues. Let me tell you it's not her ... but you who has difficulties with feeling (if your comment is serious wich I doubt). You are only one 'freak' next to millions who are mesmerized by Floor's ability to convey emotion. Floor is the best thing to ever happen to metal and Nightwish and all of us.
Floor underestimates her own input into (Dutch) people getting into metal now, she thinks she is not that important and doesn't want to be famous, that it should be all about the music. She wants to promote metal, not herself. She's wrong. Floor is such an incredibly good vocalist, many people want to hear HER, which makes the genre she sings in less important. Floor singing from a phonebook will sell out venues.
I certainly don't know you and I certainly don't know if you're a metalhead. Therefore, I may be wrong, but your comment makes me think you don't understand her Metal heart. You see her exclusively as a superb singer but you don't see her as a metalhead and that's a big mistake. Floor has a 25-year career behind her in this musical genre, and it's simple, that's because she loves this music. I think that's your next mistake, underestimating that feelings of hers, in general the feeling that Metal musicians and fans have for this musical genre. A feeling from which you can learn a little, if you're interested, in the documentary "Global Metal" by canadians filmmakers Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn. Have a nice day.
@@stormrideroftheli thats really on point and the thing about floor is that she really REALLY love metal and all thr meaning behind it, u can see a lot of singers are there for the money... she isn't one of them
I understand what you're saying, but the thing is, Floor very much chose metal and metal chose her. I mean, even her husband is a metalhead -- he is the drummer of Sabaton. All of this to say, both the metal genre as well as the people in it (the metal community, if you will, both in Europe and outside of it) are very important to her. Sure, she can sing in different styles and she obviously enjoys that; she is very versatile. And I *completely agree* that if she were to sing from a phonebook it would definitely sell out, lol. But, she will always put metal first and that's a fact. Money can't buy what's closest to one's heart; for Floor, her love for metal is priceless.
Thank you for the interview. As a Finn I'm glad Nightwish was promoted so nicely. We love Nightwish in every age group from children to old age pensioners. Floor is so right for Nightwish. 💕
"So Floor, how are you?"...."Good, ...a bit tired" Yes she looks tired, it's in her eyes, she looks like she's been overworking, and not sleeping very well. As we all know, some time ago she suffered a nervous breakdown, a 'burn out' as she called it. I just hope she doesn't overdo things and becomes ill again.
Live in the USA - Just came across Nightwish and Floor....... cant get enough... dont know how I missed Nightwish in the past but Floor seems to have added some real improvement to a great band..... unbelievable talent and awesome performer !!!!
Being 65 yrs old, I stumbled across a fan reaction to "Ghost Love Score".....I always considered myself a "classic rock" kind of guy.....What really got me was the time and tempo changes to add an incredible dimension and drama to your music. And then your incredible voice cuts through everything else going on....The Wacken video of 2013 just blew my mind. I have been totally won over buy you all, and your sound..........I now consider myself as part of the "army", and I try to share with as many friends as I can......Best of luck to you all.....from a U.S.A. fan.....
@@snarlsgrowly5198 I, like many others, owe a lot to Nightwish band and Floor Jansen, at personal level. Helping the new reactors with the necessary information is a small gesture in response. Thanks for your support and understanding.
Beautifully said Gabriel! I agree :D I am a new fan of Nightwish/Floor since November last year. I feel bummed I only just now discovered them and almost feel ashamed I did not know her and I am from The Netherlands indeed.. But on the other end, I am also very grateful I found them and her in these times because their music and Floor herself deffinately help me during quarantine times. Gonna see Nightwish for the very first time later this year and I can't wait! 8D And like Snarls Growly said, thank you for all the information to new reactors. I too learned new things from your information! :D
@@10animallover10 The truth is that too many people lose touch with reality in the face of success, so that Floor's "down to earth" reaction is to be appreciated. She recently said it's a specific quality of the Dutch people :) so don't be so ashamed. Rejoice that you are contemporary with her, that you can see her creating and giving us unique emotions. And what she has done in the last year, showing us normalcy and common sense, has been moral and emotional support in difficult times for hundreds of thousands of people around the world, which is no small thing.
@@gabriel.bardac That is deffinately a Dutch thing yes. Just like our directness 😆 I personally like these traits. The down to Earth creates balance and directness clarity and is genuine :3 That's a nice way to think about. I indeed recognize and appreciate the unique emotions she creates and gives me and many others for sure!☺️ And better kate than never to join the party😋 Fully agreed! She has helped many people all across the world and I really appreciate and respect her taking the time to do so😊
Well allow me to dissent. There's nothing simple in appreciating superlative singing (or any form of superlative human expression)... millions live their lives without knowing what they are missing. :) By the sole virtue of coming to feel and understand what Floor gives to us all, you are above "simple", sir!
Oh my gosh, the way she does air quotes and rolls her eyes when she says "vocal coaches" kills me. She, a professional in the business, is well aware that a lot of those people aren't real vocal coaches and doesn't shy away from saying it. I love her.
I know you don't probably read all of the comments but if you do come across my comment please know you have helped me get through some very hard times in my life and still to this day you helped me get through the day when I feel like there's no hope I listen to you and I know there's hope so thank you for giving me hope you truly are a blessing Floor ❤️
I'm happy to see her keep smiling and answer every question with humble, even though she looks little bit tired because of her busy schedules recently.
It's quite remarkable that Floor can have a smile on her face during the whole interview. And so down to earth. Really hope for her own sake that she is good in time management, it's nothing more important to be a parent and be there when your child is growing up.
I think she is. She had a burn out in 2012 i think, and she learned the hard way - like so many of us - that you need to take care of how and what you spend your time on. And I know the Nightwish team is also very focused on making sure that everybody takes care of themselves and have down time for their respective families. And also if they wish bring the family with them on tour. In that sense they are not very rock'n roll ;-).
I wouldn’t have rediscovered Nightwish with Floor if it weren’t for RU-vid reactions. I’m an old old fan from the beginning thru the end of Tarja. Nightwish was such my favorite band that I recoiled in anger and disbelief when Tarja left. I listened to literally only a few seconds of Nightwish with Annette and hated it. Ghost Love Score live at Wacken 2013 is what brought me back full force with tears in my eyes.
“Are we gonna double bass our way through these episodes, or what are we gonna do..?” Got a smile on my face😁 And on the new album “I do things I didn’t know I could do...” 🤩 ...now I’m hyped
They're just bums trying to make RU-vid-money off of critiquing other people's work. It's sad that there are people who believe "RU-vidr" to be a legitimate profession.
@@3Storms Well not all of them. There are, of course, the vocal coaches (or "coaches"), but there are also fans who do music reaction as part of their pastime. Not everyone goes to "Patreon" or like systems to charge the audience, while some sell their own stuff in parallel. I'd have no problem with that. The true problem is if a channel actually just plays through the music without adding anything, and infringing the copyright... but in the case of NIGHTWISH, I actually think this RU-vid hype has worked wonders for the group's fame - and by extension, the selling out shows. :)
@@bigg2988 I mostly agree with that. But copyright is way obsolete. Half the reason we pirated games, was because the pirates removed the CD requirements and other nonsense. Most of the other half was because it was easier to get. Steam pretty much ended piracy. Not by enforcing copyright, but by offering a superior service. Itunes and spotify largely do the same for music. Netflix hs largely done that for movies. And good creators can still sell outside that, exactly to fans, who often were introduced by the easy-access platforms (or outright illegal downloads). Pretty much my only gripe: if you market yourself as a vocal coach, give proper commentary on that. Otherwise just label it a reaction video. When I see "engineer reacts to new World Trade center" I expect some technical commentary, not just "yeah cool building, I like the shape fits well in our city" ;).
Gifted, Humble, Ambitious, Educated. It’s rare, refreshing company we find ourselves enjoying here. Thank you for sharing your talent and passion with us
What a great interview of an endearing personality. Kudos to the journalist. All were questions any fan would love to ask. And Floor is just so gracious and appears to be an easy and truly enjoyable subject. Superb job.
I could gaze into those beautiful eyes forever. So full of passion and kindness and life, and then there's that smile, seeing the look of excitement on her face when talking about the new album.
Love this woman. She is so modest about her talent. I know right now all the show are in there home land and surroundings areas. I am looking forward to the US tour. She and Nightwish will be very welcome.
First off.. Floor, you're a godess. Nothing more and nothing less. You give me goosebumps every time you sing and have brought tears to my 45 year old male eyes more than once. Second. The dutch audience and listener have evolved, however, the dutch radio unfortunatelly haven't. If you talk to people on the street, they actually listen to a way broader range of music than what is played on the radio. Dutch radio is very directed at young people and pop. Still. It's also one of the reasons radio is slowly dying in the netherlands, and streaming services are taking over, as people are getting fed up with getting those meager pop songs stuffed down their throats. In the 80's a band like Metalica (yes, I know, different kind of music) would be rated by the average dutch person as 'hardcore hardrock'. These days, they can be played on the radio, and sparsely even are. Even Queen was considered hard rock once. That being said, I don't think nightwish is radio music. Or, better stated, I think Nightwish is more than radio music. It's a show, including light effects, screens, possibly pyrotechnics, and so forth. Just listenling to it on the radio, is selling yourself short. You need to go see it.
Man oh man I love her voice! Floor might be the best female vocalist I've ever heard. And her stage presence and dancing is so entertaining. Hopefully Nightwish will make their way to the Seattle area soon!!! I am anxious to see them!!!
Every time I see her I smile all the time. I admire her! I enjoyed a lot the whole interview. She's so genuine and humble and that make her the greatest artist that she is!
Extraordinary way to talk about metal and to try and take down the prejudices against it. Through kindness and well articulate arguments in the most respectful of ways. Gotta love this woman.
I really like how she describes the challenge of singing something like Que Se Siente and how she needed to find a way to tell the story. It's an interesting choice of words 'cause I think this is what makes her such a remarkable singer and a perfect fit for Nightwish: she's is a storyteller. She seems to understand each song as a script that needs to be interpreted to the audience so they can get the exact emotions behind the words. Great interview!
Until 15 minutes ago I really thought she just learns the lyrics and she is ready to sing a song. Now that I know it's much more complicated and that she needs to figure things out and practice makes it even more awesome, because I know there is not only talent behind it, but also dedication. And just an observation - she instantly gets emotional when she mentions her daughter. That makes her so much cooler, because she feels more human... earlier I thought she is a metal goddess that brought back Nightwish to me. And again don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that she is most important in Nightwish or something like that. I'm just saying that a band needs all it's pieces working together perfectly. If one piece doesn't fit it makes the whole thing not working as it's supposed to. But thankfully now Nightwish has it's all elements in perfect harmony and I can't wait to hear them live again.
I already knew Nightwish with Tarja Turunen for ca 10 years and now I am very ashamed that I didn’t know she is the new leadsanger for ca 7 years.... what a great woman with a very great voice. Especcially after “De Beste Zangers” with the Phantom of the Opera, I will never forget. Every time I hear this song, it takes my breath away, a wave of emotion through my body, so incredibly beautiful.
Indeed. I first liked Nightwish back in the Tarja days (Oceanborn etc) but during Annette, i didn't like it and some how stopped following the band. For some reason I only found out Floor joined Nightwish only 6 months ago (where have i been?), and now been listening and watching everything she's done after joining and also her former work. I feel with Floor, Nightwish has regained the fusion what makes Nightwish, Nightwish :)
Wow, I love this woman so much! On top of her beauty and being possibly the best vocalist in the world right now, she has such an intelligent and level head on her shoulders.
Well that was awesome. Floor's the only rock star that I consider 100% rock star. She's awesome. I'll always be a fanatic fan. Glad she's becoming known in the Netherlands. She deserves everything she's worked so hard for. Have a great life Floor, we'll be watching... and listening with admiration. PEACE
She is so incredibly humble, recflected and intelligent! She truly has one of the best female voices in the world and still not acting like a diva. I love her!
There was a time I could wear one of my Nightwish shirts and only metal fans would recognize it. Now random people are like "Hey, that is Floor's band, from beste zangers." Get a bit annoyed though that they keep calling it Floors band, there are more people in the band than only Floor. But I am glad that symphonic metal gets more attention.
Articulate and humble... Until on stage and the Valkyrie is unleashed in full glory... Thanks for doing the interview. Eagerly anticipating the new album.
I am 64 ..an American and have love many genres of music my whole life, but had never hear of Nightwish..by watching some reac tions on Ghost Love Score..by Elizabeth Zarhoff..an opera singer n true voice coach, I have been truly enlightened and love this band soo much. I've also become a big Floor fan, what a joy she is to know about her down to earth passion for life and her love of her music and voice.
I am from the USA and I can remember back in the 80s and 90s, metal was entirely underground here. A friend showed me your music and I love you guys. I'm a bit of a singer myself and I enjoy your technical talent Floor, it is refreshing. Keep it up, please!
Interesting interview. I'm glad that Floor Jansen is still remains as herself and the important thing about why she joined the Beste Zangers wasn't looking for popularity but she tried to introduce her music in Netherlands.
I think the voice of floor is amazing and no body will ever be better, but for me that beautiful smile in every interview is amazing too and beautiful to see .
God how beautiful and interesting your face and smile are - a showstopper for real - and then there is your voice, which is easily the best in the world that is or that ever were - An Angel sent to ease the worlds pains and sorrows with her voice - mission accomplished!
Literally i'm Watching some Floor interviews Right now and Then This Pops up O.O STILL Can't Believe! Edit: I totally Agree with Floor and this Bothers me too... it's just an Universal issue, not just in Netherland.
This was a very nice interview! As a new Nightwish (and Floor) fan and Vegan it makes me very happy to hear Floor say that during summer camp they would grill some VEGGIE-sausages. For me this makes perfect sense, knowing a lot of NW music is about Life, Nature, Earth, Biology, Astronomy etc. So apparently Floor and (most of) the guys made the connection regarding the implications of eating meat. This can't get any better I guess. I'm now a fan for life :-) :-)
I have never herd of Nightwish until a few years ago and I wish it would have been sooner where I started listening to a bunch more European bands. I wish the music scene in canada and the usa weren't so fixated on north American bands and opened the door to more bands from around the world. Wacken 2013 is by far one of the best live performances I have ever seen of any band. It still amazes me.
The most beautiful voice vie ever heard and she is all around awesome. So talented. Ive been a musician for over 30 years and never seen or heard such a beautiful and angelic singer like Floor Jansen. Truly amazing!! Rock on FLOOR JANSEN!!! Thank you soon much for your wonder God given talent. Love ya always.
Thank you so much for publishing this interview in English. Fans around the world have been focused on Floor these last few months and are very interested in her thoughts on what's been happening as a result of Beste Zangers. She is as graceful and interesting as ever.
What beautiful and expressive eyes she has. Repeating the million of responses, what a lovely intelligent person you are Floor. I bet your Parents are the same.
Really fascinating insight into Floor and the way she has developed as a singer. In the UK I was aware of the show Floor did and heard a lot of the songs but we could not really enjoy the show. Floor you are a great ambassador for Metal. Great to hear this in English and thanks for that . All power to Floor.
Miss Floor is humble, appreciative and oh so talented. She is what rock musicians should be like. She says it all here. I have seen them twice with her and want to see them again. Best to you Miss Floor.
