I really admire the activism work you are doing, for continuing to amplify Palestinian voices and bring attention to their suffering. It’s amazing that you donate every time you stitch on your Palestinian piece, I don’t think there are many people that do that. We need more people like you in the world! 😊 The stitched bookmark idea is so cool, I’ll have to see if there is a project like that running near me. Thank you for your kind words and for mentioning me! 💚

Thanks Maryam! Thanks for your design work, too. It's always so thoughtful and gives me lots of ideas to think on. Are you involved with the Stitchers for Palestine initiative? I think Maryam and Shazeeda from Ancient Sage are. I'm talking about more bookmarks in my next video!

Dear Nitya happy New Year 2024!! Every month I look forward to your updates and spending time with me. The Palestinian designs you are stitching are so beautiful and important! Your craftvisim is impressive and very encouraging! It's true change is slow and every bit counts. Looking forward to connecting with you next year. Take care and thanks so much for your friendship🎉🥰😍

Hello dear friend! Every bit does count, it really does, you are so right. Hope 2024 is off to a good start for you Ana. I'm loving the new Andean women pattern! I want to so something with it and eventually I'll pick your brain on how to stitch it. I appreciate and love you! Happy stitching!

Hi there, and thanks for the mention! (I'll have to do a wall tour on a future video--right now it's other folks' art.) I really like how you're combining the various Palestinian patterns together into one large piece. Glad to see you're making progress on Squirrels of Sumatra as well. It's gorgeous and you don't have all that much left to tackle. Also, your stitching on the reindeer is so tiny! Makes it even more adorable.

Wonderful catch up. I appreciate your thoughts around how what we share on social media might negatively impact people living under oppressive regimes - and agree that it is unlikely they have the kind of support internally that they purport to have. When a country is oppressing another nation/people, it says a lot about how they value human life and how they might be treating people who are “on their side” as well. Also - now I am pondering starting a dragon pattern, so thank you for that 😉

It was lovely catching up with you this month! Loved the craftivism, activism, and awareness, seeing your progress and color choices, hearing about your 2024 plans (cannot wait to see all the dragons! and progress on those 64 motifs). As for tiny stitching, I would recommend Soie Surfine for 40-56ct over 1 since it's way finer than 100/3. Also Gloriana Tudor Silk is great for 40ct over 1. I'm currently stitching a small pattern on 40ct over 1 with 100/3 and it's okay but very fluffy and not a full coverage. 36ct may be better for 100/3 (haven't tried yet).

LOL Nati, 5 motifs down, 59 to go! I'm working on editing my video today so dragon updates are coming up. OK I need to make note of your tiny stitching recommendations. I have never tried Soie Surfine. I do think I might have some tudor silk, I'll see if I can try that. Thanks for the recommendations, I so appreciate that. Hope you've been getting some good stitchy time this month ❤

So happy to catch up with your stitching. Thank you for using your voice and keeping up with what’s happening in Palestine. It’s not easy to witness. Don’t forget to leave room for joy. We all do. Look at the Palestinians. Even after so much loss and pain they endure every day, they still find small pockets of joy to keep them going. I love that Tatreez pattern mashup. It’s looking beautiful. Stitchers for peace includes Yas, Maryam, Michelle, Aya and me. We have a pattern coming out soon. That channel you described sounds like mindfulness exercise. It sounds relaxing. I’ll look it up. You have made so much progress on Sepideh. She looks gorgeous in that floss color. I’m designing as I’m watching you so oops 😅 I can’t help it, I blame Jacob. He motivates me to design more. Squirrel of Sumatra looks amazing and those colors are fantastic. Tiny Rudolph 🤩 Great plans for 2024 I’m excited about the stitch for pride SAL. Just got my fabric and am waiting for my thread pack 😊

Yes, Palestinian joy. Definitely looking out for that. Bisan helps with that. Did you see her video last week of an aunty making donuts in one of tents? So sweet. Love her so much. Sepideh is such a joy to work on. She is the sun herself, I love the light she brings.

Great job on my names 😊. Correct, I don’t have a Flosstube. I love your idea for your Tatreez sampler on a projectbag. It’s going to look so awesome. I know it’s not Owl forest’s fault, but I’m not sure about posting stitching on their patterns (for safety or otherwise). It’s also because I met a wonderful Ukrainian stitcher on a retreat here who fled Ukraine after the Krim invasion and she had pretty strong opinions about seeing Owl Forest. Which I also understand. She has a Flosstube and shows Ukrainian heritage stitching among other projects.. She makes lovely blouses. Her Flosstube is Heritage stitching

Ha! Your tutorial was generous and very helpful Elles! Thank you for your insights. They've helped me to decide to keep this pattern to myself, definitely, and if friends want to see it I may show it in places where it won't get photographed and shared. I checked out Heritage Stitching and am really enjoying her Flosstube- thank you for the recommendation! I saw that you started a blue Lina's Thobe pattern that is just so beautiful. Excited to see your progress on that. Thanks for tuning in Elles! Happy January stitching!

I had to watch in parts so I feel like my comments are disjointed. Always appreciate the thought and care you put into your craftivism. I hadn’t considered/articulated the OFE and it did make me reflect on what I have and plan to do. I enjoyed all the dragon patterns and thoughts as that’s definitely my area of interest too. I’ve been wanting to do the magazine dragons but like you said I don’t want so many dragon WIPs all at once

Hi, Nitya. I am a few weeks behind in viewing this episode. Watching your channel is a learning opportunity. So much information and new learning. Not "fun" topics, but I happen to like a little reality with my cross-stitching. I am not sure if it's too late to offer an opinion on whether or not to share your stitching of a political statement on the Owl Forest pattern, but I vote for NOT showing it in any medium. Given the sophistication of communication technology, we have become a very small planet. Somehow, someway your stitching may get into the "wrong" hands. Stay well.

Thank you so so much for continuing to bring up the plight of the Palestinians, it is very disheartening to see many amazing people of the cross stitch community completely ignore what is going on in Palestine, we are not less because we are not white and our first language isn’t English, thanks again Nitya ❤

❤❤❤ It is hard for me to understand how the entire privileged world is not stopping everything right now to stand up against the human rights violations happening in Palestine now. There are some of us who are listening to the Palestinian tatreez stitchers who are very generously sharing their stories with us. I definitely wish more stitchers would tune in and hear these stories, too.

I really loved A Different World in my youth. ☺ On Russia! Obviously, you know I have thoughts about it - first, Cross Stitch Across the Globe is a great channel. But it is true that you cannot judge a people by its government's action, lest goes the US. Everything you said is accurate. While I think in general, your stitching on the designers patterns with your modifications will unlikely impact the designer there; however, I agree that in an abundance of caution, you should keep your modification private. Oh Dragons! Yes, I am definitely starting a dragon as I am a Fire Dragon! 🔥🐲 Always, loved spending time with you.

I think I will keep that pattern private. Thanks for weighing in Jessie. You and Elles helped me sort out how I want to handle it. Oh tell me what dragons you will start on??? I've been eyeing those Ink Circles elemental dragons but I'm on #NoBuyTilJuly! What do you think you'll do?

Hello Nitya! I have only seen a couple of your videos and I am enjoying watching what you stitch - I love the squirrels of Sumatra and the colours you are using. Thanks also for your open talk about those who find themselves in a war situation without having a say about that situation. There is something you may not understand though about the Russian/Ukraine situation - and I can talk myself blue but I think if you are interested in what really has and is happening there you will take the time to look it up. For me, Putin is the only one who has shown any integrity or honour in that situation. And you should also take note that Blackrock is now invested heavily. Putin has offered peace multiple times and the US and Britain and NATO have interfered. Mainstream News does not broadcast the truth, just make it look bad on Putin's part. Try a little Lt Col Douglas MacGregor retired - or Scott Ritter - both will talk Ukraine and Palestine. Look forward to your next, thanks!

Lovely to see you again and see all your projects. I think now you have said it, I would worry about putting people in danger re activism. I tell everyone, I go to protests confidently because I live in a safe country. Not everyone is in the same position. I try to remember that. especially when I get sad that some artists and makers that I love have said nothing. The truth is, we don't know their situations. SO maybe talk about but don't link your anti war slogan to their design visually, sorry, this is probably a very inadequate solution for you. I love the idea of embroidering in Russian though. And regarding the instagram thing. I totally get what you say about it jarring. My instagram is now 95% the genocide in Palestine. I am still posting about my personal life, but I am choosing activism hashtags to go alongside that. Probably does nothing but makes me feel better. And quite frankly I am scrolling past people that have not said anything about what is going on. I am slowly shedding accounts that don't align with me, but I feel sad about it. Anyway, I am looking forward to all the things you will work on next year. Have a lovely month, Catherine

Hi Catherine! I think you're right. I'm going to keep that pattern to myself and I might just show it in person to friends who I know won't photograph and share it. Maybe. Or just hang it up at home. It upsets me too when friends, stitchers, designers who I love don't speak up. I don't know what their reasons are, and people have to come around to their own realizations, but it does sometimes feel lonely to not have a real community joining together in solidarity. My IG too is mostly Palestine now. It just feels like the right thing to do. I feel you. Yes, let's find pockets of joy and we both have lots of stitching to keep us going. More soon- I'm video editing today.
