It's like a lot of people think that good boxing will save you in MMA. Good boxing is awesome if youre at least decent in every other area. But you don't just train some "takedown defense" and go fight in the UFC, not even with world class boxing. You need high standard cage game, jiu jitsu, wrestling, clinch, kick defense and then you need strategy as well, just to name some areas... And to get good in so many areas takes many years - even with the best coaches money can buy.

Lmao Floyd would lose to any average MMA fighter in 20 seconds, let alone a UFC fighter in his weight division. He'd be taken down with ease and GNP'd with elbows or submitted when he inevitably gives up his back. Edit: Floyd's legs would be taken out with like 2 inside leg kicks. MMA fighters can transition to boxing fairly well, but boxers cannot transition to MMA quickly, and I don't think Floyd is stupid enough to ever get into the octagon.

Someone like canelo could beat many mma and even ufc fighters in a purely stand up fight. You mma guys always underestimate boxers, just like tim sylvia did against washed up and 48 year old ray mercer. Don't use the "it was supposed to be a boxing match" excuse either, as tim sylvia threw a kick. Using takedowns a mma fighter has the advantage, but striking vs striking a boxer is very dangerous.

Juan Diaz the former world champion id college educated, has several companies and is an activist. Many boxers hold degrees. Being a combat athlete is simply appealing for some people, and truth is that making a few million for performing 1 night is lucrative for anyone, but it is certainly not for everyone.

We really haven't had that many heavyweight champions in the history of the sport, you had occasions where single boxers had the title for 10-15 years, mind you we started counting heavyweight champions for about a year now. @FitzChivalry Farseer Those were in boxing matches. But honestly, it's not unreasonable to assume the average MMA fighter could best floyd on the feet, let alone a top tier competitor in the UFC. He would genuinely have zero chance against someone like Jose Aldo, Edson Barboza or really any of the UFC's better strikers. No one is denying boxing is a great sport, but it's just nonsensical to compare a boxer to an mma fighter. Boxing is just a single aspect to the blend that forms Mixed Martial Arts/MMA

@FitzChivalry Farseer I agree Lomachenko could because he has a legitimate wrestling backround to go along with his boxing, he has a better shot in MMA. Floyd's style wouldn't translate well into MMA though, he's a defensive boxer that doesn't have much power in his punches. Also yes, Jose Aldo would be one of the worst possible matchups for Floyd in a standup fight. Check out jose aldo vs urijah faber and imagine if that was floyd in there with him, he's never been in any sort of fight that involves kicks or anything that doesnt involve just punches and has no clue how to check leg kicks. If Jose can do that to an experienced mma fighter like Urijah Faber who knows how to check leg kicks, imagine what he could do to Floyd. his leg would buckle in 1 kick.

The frustration from MMA fans stems from the fact that boxing fans and even practictioners refuse to concede that whilst a proffesional boxer may have better skills with standup boxing, an MMA fighter would dominate outside of just boxing. It's mixed martial arts, they utilize more tools than just there hands. And having proffesionaly trained hands, feet, grappling, submission skills, and wrestling skills supercedes just expert level hands(boxing) as a fighter is just a fact. Yet boxers and boxing fans refuse to face this reality. Ask yourself this, why hasn't Floyd decided to step into an octagon to prove otherwise?

Using angles,using clean shots, avoiding getting hit,making people miss punches, etc. That's what Mayweather does. He's not the best fighter but he's the best boxer. He's taken been world champ for 18 years and been boxing for 19 years. Honestly, I'd rather see Canelo go to UFC. Floyd's "be defensive until your opponent tires out" approach won't work in MMA. Canelo could be a devastating force in the UFC if he learns basic takedown defense. Just imagine, Canelo vs Barboza. Now that's a fight I'd be willing to pay for.

Mma fighters push punches and can't read distance or time shots even half as good as may. Ppl saying Floyd would get ruined are hatin. The guy isn't dumb. A little wrestling training (which im sure he has, who doesent) and ability to check kicks would go a long way with his boxing background. Boxing isn't just punching remember. A lot of dudes would be kicking thin air and open to massive counters.

Mcgregor is not a knockoff version lmao, he can’t box like Floyd, neither can anyone else in the world as far as we’ve seen. But, in a streetfight Floyd would be dead, a head kick and a good left will do the job, that is unless they fight in the octagon with the rules Floyd wanted where there’s no takedowns, kicking, elbows, or submissions. Basically a boxing match with smaller gloves.
