Fluval Edge 6 gallon review 

Mack V it does have a nice look it, it comes with a quality filter, but I’ve found it’s not the most practical setup. I’ve been running it for almost 4 years now with all the original equipment, but if I were to do it again I would go with the spec v or that new spec 16 gallon planted. Fish kind of freak out about the glass top especially fish like bettas. It works for nano species like shrimp, snails, pigmy corydoras

Light has a huge amount to do with it . Think about it if you have no light you have no algae

Thank you, yeah I like the look, but I dread the weekly maintenance as it's pretty much impossible to thoroughly gravel vac. I've also given up trying to fit my big hands in there.

Yep, the light is weak, and my initial aquascape was a bit of a bust. My filter lid is prone to rattling, but not too often, I do have to clean the impeller about every two weeks when it doesn't restart after a water change. I do really like the prefilter sponge that you can buy for a $1. It keeps does a good job or filtering out debris and protects the cherry shrimp. Overall, my filter is doing a good job after 18 months. I recently redid the setup and have a new planted plus light in addition and it's working great. @@tingoose7366 hi For your Fluval edge the perfect replacement for the marine land light is the current satellite freshwater led + 18” fits perfectly and is totally adjustable with remote. You don’t even need to use the light that comes with the tank.

I do have that problem unless I fill it up to about 1-2 centimeters short of the very top. I then use a magnetic algae scraper to clear the bubbles after water changes.

It comes with a built in water filter you'd be paying extra for.

It would be a lot cheaper to just buy a plain, cheap and simple tank from somewhere like Petco for 1$ a gallon sale if you live in the US, I don't so I miss out on all these huge sales. The Edge has a water filter that you will have to pay for. Also, it is usually cheaper to buy a terrarium instead, since those don't have to be as strong to hold all that water in.

The prefilter sponge just slides over the intake valve that is in the tank. It works with the aquaclear external filter that comes with the edge. It's necessary for the aquaclear if you want to keep shrimp. For the Chi, you have a different type of filter that won't use this type of sponge, since your Chi filter is already safe for shrimp.

No airstone necessary. If you fill the top to about 1/2 inch below the top it will create enough surface agitation with the filter outflow for adequate gas exchange. That being said, the Fluval Edge is losing it's luster for me. There are just too many drawbacks to this configuration. I do love the top view, but adequate lighting has always been a challenge.

Yes, the lid can occasionally rattle, but the pump is quiet and I has been working well for 2 years now. Overall, the Edge is ok, I probably would not buy it again based on the other options now out there.

Sorry for the delayed response, it's been a long week of work with the holiday. I'm actually thinking of getting the Evo 13 gallon or the new spec V with the 7000k LED lighting if I stick with Fluval. I may just end up doing a small acrylic and customize it, I'm not sure yet. There are a lot of amazing looking rimless kits out there if you like that look, but I'm done with rimless tanks since I always end up having a fish or two jump out. My tentative plan is to probably retire the Edge about a year from now.

It's really quiet, my local pet store uses this as a shrimp display tank (the shrimp are not for sale) and I go there quite a lot. But personally I sleep next to a pretty average sounding setup so I might not be the person to ask.

I still am, but I've since completely rescaped it. I keep telling myself I'm going to take it down, it's probably my least favorite tank just because of the lighting and maintenance. The different look is kind of nice, and after 3+ years everything is still working fine. No issues with the LED lights or filter. But I will probably take this down in 2018 at some point and replace it with something else.

Yeah, it's beautiful. As I mentioned, my local pet store runs it and I think it looks even better in person than on camera.
