This is an aquarium designed for freshwater planted tanks, as such the lights aren't as bright as those for marine aquariums purely because plants do not require as intense a light as corals do.
Draining 2 or 3 gallons(!) of water is a bit overkill for preventing water overflowing when putting your hand and forearm in the tank. I used to remove like 12oz, if memory serves.
Good honest review... I just bought the white one just recently and haven't even taken it out of the box. Hope you could create a video series to chronicle how you turn this into a pico reef tank. Cheers!
Did you have to add a salt water conversion to this, as I am thinking of buying a second hand 46l fluval edge tank and buy siliconing some acrylic triangle bars into the edges which is really cheap, keeping jellyfish. I just have to sort out the flow rate to be on minimum. But then I saw a conversion kit to buy to use for salt water, do you need one?
I have the Fluval Edge 46 l. and sometimes I get tired of it due to the small hole on top of it. But on the other hand, I really like the way it looks. I do have another tank 32 litres with an ordinary top (the whole lid lifts up) but it´s not as good looking as the Fluval. I believe that the 46 l is worse because you have put almost all your arm in it and therefore reduce a higher amount of water before tucking your arm in compared to the 23 l. I´m actually thinking of buying the 23 l. Catching a fish in it is not the easiest either. My fish likes it. I have had a lot of ancistrus babies without planning and of course the guppies and the platys as well.
Reef Snob it is. they were having a problem with some of the corners of the tanks. looks great though. for this reason I am thinking about getting a aquamaxx 17 gallon.
Wtf? You’re trying to repurpose a FRESHWATER product to salt? OF COURSE the lighting is not going to work for your purposes! I own FIVE of these. They are absolutely PERFECT - but not for you. Aquaclear 20 gives me TOTAL control over filter options. This tank is NOT FOR YOU !
I think he's right about the lighting issue but yes, I was a little surprised he didn't know about using a magnetic algae scrubber for the bubble problem and cleaning. But i don't think it was "terrible".
