Fly-Fishing a PA Class "A" Trib., "FIRST DRY FLY ACTION OF 2024", plus a KORKER add-on

Just wanting to get any kind of "tug" on my line, because of getting skunked the day before, I decided to hit a little Class "A" tributary today. For the most part, the first section I fished, brought about the expected results, little fingerling wild brownies. But the second section, WOOHOO! Bigger fish, with some bonus top water action to end my day on a high note. (FYI: First, make sure the Korker replaceable soles are dry. Then before I screwed in the studs into my Korker soles, I pre-drilled pilot holes with a smaller bit than the stud screw size, and dipped the stud screw threads into Gorilla Waterproof Heavy Duty Glue for added holding strength.)

Hi Chris! Thank you, forgot to mention it was my Douglas Upstream rod, actually that day I had an issue with the reel seat circle clips coming loose several times, seems like the reel seat mount is too skinny for the sliding circle rings, might have to build up the thickness of the reel mount. Other than that, had a great day, glad you enjoyed the video.

Nice trib action Scott. I love tribs near my home in Lancaster county. I like the early season of using the little black stones. But mainly I like testing new flies I tie to test the patterns. It’s hard to say what works best because the native brookies eat everything. But wild browns are a little picky. But it was good you shared your trib trip since they are an overlooked fishery and are close to almost everybodies home.

Nice little creek. I too, just yesterday left my fly rod on the top of my vehicle, and was unable to relocated after driving back to The McMichaels Creek near Snydersville while fishing the delayed harvest section off of Hickory Valley Road. The real was a lamp and remix with orange backing paired with just a cheap 9 foot Fenwick hawk fly rod. @pawoodsnwater7551 3 месяца назад
Hi Doug! Thank you very much. Oh man, there are a bunch of spider or black spider ties on RU-vid, just do a RU-vid search. Basically, you need either a superfine black dubbing, a wire rib, like a blue, pink or copper, and a dark hen soft hackle, just make the body very skinny and no tail, I do sometimes put a small hotspot thorax like a light blue or pink color, you can make them from size 14-18. @pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 3 месяца назад
Sholom brother! No I haven’t, I think because it’s such a subjective subject. For me, it’s mostly toes, neck and hands, but hands because I have to wet them, otherwise they’re good. But if I can keep my toes warm and not have cold wind getting to my neck, the rest of my body is really never an issue. But for everyone else, their issues could be totally different. I do love my Orvis Pro wading jacket, my Simms black fleece mittens and I do wear electric rechargeable wool socks. Those three items are a must for me when Winter fishing. Hope this helps. Nice video Scott. This past Wednesday I fished a stream about an hour away from my home. This is a no stocked stream. Weather was pretty decent. However I only caught two small browns. Tried a bunch of different things. They just didn’t seem to want to bite. Has this happened to you where you’re just perplexed ? I wish they would make this stream artificial catch and release only. Especially since they don’t stock it. Have you run into this in PA? Thanks again for an enjoyable Sunday morning
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 3 месяца назад
Hi Michael! Omg! Yes, like I said in the beginning of this video, I got skunked the day before, on another Class A stocked stream, not a bite in 5 hours! We can only speculate as to why they weren’t feeding the day before, but don’t lose faith, you’re probably not doing anything wrong, just one of those days we all face time to time. Curious if you gave the korker studded felt soles a try. I heard on a popular podcast that they had the best traction out of any sole but when I tried them out but they were no good. @pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 2 месяца назад
Good morning buddy! On this format I really can’t show a diagram. On this smaller stream, I’m using a standard weight forward floating line, followed be a 50” Cutthroat Furled Shorty Leader for my butt section of my leader, then four feet of 4x Flouro, then my tandem rig, when switching over to dries, I’ll cut off my tandem rig as a whole, save it for later, then add 3ft. of 5x or 6x then my dry fly. On bigger streams, I’ll add 5ft. of 4x Flouro instead of 4ft. after my Cutthroat leader. If you want to see me actually build it, please watch the first ten minutes of my video “Nymphing a Snowy Penns Creek. Hope this helps. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
