@@Hoshi-qe3yr I had the same problem, sometimes id get stick drift right out of the package. hall effect sticks unlike the potentiometer sticks the dualshock 4 uses wont get stick drift as fast. the upgrade to the hall effects sticks you see in this video is to counteract a re centering problem with hall effects sticks.
There's in-depth, and here its science paper level in-depth. I love it. Just came across this channel and micro details and comparisons are absolute god send. Thank you
I reached Flydigi support, unfortunately they don't have plans to sell different dpads separately. Shame. Silver dpad on Vader 3 Pro looks ugly and cheap AF, I would like to buy black or at least matte grey.
Did they just add everything from feedback of vader 3 pro on apex 4? (eng user manual, improvement for sticks,...) But still, m5 and m6 shoulders buttons are still not back yet. And now they even remove c and z buttons. Have been long time i not use the l3 and r3 cuz how hard to press them without moving the thumbsticks. Maybe from the stick improvement, l3 and r3 are easier to press now. All is just guessing from me and i only own vader 3 pro, so don't expect much accuracy from my words.
I wish this had the C and Z face buttons like the Vader 3 Pro. They're a must have for fighters. It's weird how Flydigi's best controller is missing features from their less expensive controller. They will never have an ideal controller if they keep doing this.
Hey there VK! I've seen on PCGaming Wiki that an update to the software allows the controller to be run and recognized as a Dualsense in Steam. Would that make the adaptive triggers work like a Dualsense out of the box without going through the Flydigi Software launcher, and have support for adaptive triggers in games that aren't mentioned on FlyDigi's list? Stuff like Helldivers 2, for example? This would really push me towards this controller instead of others, and I can't find this info online :( Thank you, and keep up the great videos!
Mano, achei que seu canal era gringo, o que te entregou foi o Overwatch em português kkk Parabéns pelo canal, a qualidade é realmente de canal gringo, teu inglês é fluente e sem sotaque também, parabéns!
Funny enough, the thing I both like the most and the least about this controller is the new stick design. On the one hand, the modules are genuinely quite innovative in their design, and FlyDigi deserves kudos for coming up with such a clever stick module. That said, I can't help but worry that the abundance of plastic materials in these modules, particularly in the tension mechanism, may make these liable to break. I have seen at least a couple of posts on reddit about parts in these sticks breaking or cracking, and I can't help but think that FlyDigi needs to use sturdier, more flexible materials that are more resistant to mechanical stress if they want to continue with this stick module design.
Certainly the circularity test does not indicate whether the analogue is good or not. Flydigi wouldn't leave an 8-10% margin of error on such a revolutionary analog in main line of controllers (Vader and Direwolf are secondary). The Vader 3 Pro has the same margin of error and so does the DualSense (PS5). I think a perfect circle doesn't mean the analogue is perfect.
You know what would be much more interesting is if someone out there reimplemented the analog face buttons of the DS2 with all the improvements of the controllers thus far but I'm still bias on the DS form factor
Holy shit those sticks! Finally hall effect sticks that can brag about not having drift for real. With this new re-centering system, and the mini ball bearings, in theory, there shouldn't be any sort of drift caused by grinding of the materials in the future. No grinding on the sensors, no grinding on the axis, only grinding on the base in contact with the spring, but it will level itself out. And the extra tension you get on the sticks is perfect for those extended distance sticks.
@@simplydreamersit doesn't look like it would be a huge point of failure. But for sure, making these parts out of aluminium per example would be ideal, but we know that in this capitalist world its not in a companys benefit to create a truly durable product.
@@simplydreamers By the way it looks, it doesn't seem that it wearing out will cause loose sticks, as the floor will still be applying pressure directly onto the thumbstick. And the axis on which it does the seesaw movement seems to not be an issue either, because it getting worn out wouldn't affect the pushing up on the thumbstick. Or what piece are you referring to? xP
Sony and Microsoft need to take a long hard look at this pad. Because this is what actual innovation looks like. Not their gradual, rehashed, halfassed overpriced efforts.
I just got mine and so far it is amazing. My only complaint is that I have larger hands and my index fingers touch that piece near the usb - C port too easily and I have to adjust to avoid it. My only complaint - otherwise - this thing is truly next level
Could you make a video on their adaptive triggers? I saw a couple posts that Apex 4 has a vibration trigger mode where it takes the vibration data and adapts that to the adaptive triggers and automatically adding resistance. Could you confirm that? Apparently, it works without having to have the software open and it works OUTSIDE the games Flydigi Apex 4 supports
@ there is vibration mode also which is exactly what he is saying. It works great on games that flydigi doesn't support been using it on metro exodus for immersion lol but of course it's not as good as the officially supported ones. Oh and also if you're gonna use vibration mode you have to tinker with the settings a bit to feel the difference more I think it's the vibration shielding and frequency that affects it the most if I'm remembering it correctly.
Awesome review! The Apex 4 is a bit too much "Hardcore Elite Gamer" for me (feature and price wise) and am very happy with my Vader 3 Pro. But I have to say alI am very impressed! Incredible how much you get for basically half the price of the competition. Those sticks seem sooo overengineered tho, i love it 😅
Hello i just realized there was suppose to be a release for the PC SPACE SPATION that will enable perfect circularity. Have you heard any news on this ?
Great review. A few things I didnt see covered: Are the back grips rubberized or gritty plastic? Can I map 3 keyboard buttons to a single button? (Shift+F7+1, on a single press, for example). Lastly how is the Dpad for older style games? Im looking for an all in one controller. Looks like they are finally combining all the features into a single controller, but those things are still unanswered for me. Any feedback is appreciated.
Awesome. Appreciate the quick response. If youre able to find out if multiple keys can be mapped like that , would be super helpful. How would you compare the rubber grip? I own an Elite 2 and several scuff controllers, the KK2 pro and Razer Wolverine V2 which all have different feeling rubber grips. Which one of those controllers would you liken the rubber grip to resemble the most? Scuf has that sticky grip that I like the best but I know thats usually not the type of rubber they use in most controllers. Most of these controllers are using sandpaper feeling plastic unfortunately. The tactile face buttons feel similiar to the Razer Wolverine controllers Im guessing? Razer Wolverine V2 also has a wide disc shaped dpad that is very clickly. Feels great but a little wide for me. Im guessing this one is also wide like that version. Trying to get a feel for it, ha ha. @@VKsChannel
Just tested it here and you can only map single buttons, things like Shift + F7 + 1 won't work, I also tried mapping CTRL + F but also didn't work but you can map CTRL to one button and F or any other key to another button and then use the button combination on the controller, not ideal but it works about the rubber grips I don't have these other controllers that you mentioned but the flydigi rubber grip is better than all of the other controllers I've reviewed so far @@theconsolekiller7113
He wanted to map a keyboard button combination to the back buttons like SHIFT + Q , this is not possible in the macro setting, it detects only buttons on the controller and not keyboard buttons would be interesting to include that in the future update@@Flydigi
Other Than... - Less Buttoms - Unmovable ABXY Button For Like Mobilr Legends And Something Similiar! - Actual Rgb Lighting Instead Of An Led Panel - A Place To Put The Receiver Is Built Under The Controller ( Coming From An Apex 2 Owner! ) Only Good Part I've Seen From This Is The Menu Setting On The Display To Which Is Probally More Helpful Than Actual Flydigi Software On Pc AND On Mobile! Design Wise It's Pretty Cool, And It Actually Came With Analog Trigger Instead Of An Digital Trigger Like In Apex 2! However! Apex 2 Come With A Case And A Set Of Replaceable Ananlog Sticks.
Thanks for the in depth stick explanation, you also should explain how potentiometer has better recentering than most hall effect sticks, but the JH16 has best recentering for hall effect. Which is why adjustable tension is such a good feature on apex 4
great in-depth review as always, I was on the fence with this controller vs the vader 3 pro because of the lack of trigger lock but I think I'm going to have to grab a pair now knowing it has the simulated locks. I do have one question though, does using the motors at full force for the trigger lock significantly impact the battery life? I imagine it might but no clue how much power the motors really draw.
Not really, I used the apex 3 for a while and the battery life was longer than the vader 3 pro Vader 3 has 800mah I think apex 4 has 1500 almost the double!
that's good to hear, I guess having a charging dock should make it a non-issue too. also, I love the use of keyboard lube on the buttons, I've been doing it with all my controllers for a while now too, it especially helped the 8bitdo neo geo clicky stick feel much nicer. my dream feature would be if controllers started having hotswap switches like keyboards too. Are the face button switches here standard mouse switches and are the dpad switches the same height too? I am not the biggest fan of loud clicky buttons, it would be interesting to try mod the kailh silent mouse switches into the apex or vader.
My main controller I use is a Scuf Reflex FPS I’ve been waiting for an Xbox like controller like this that has a better response time than a PS5 controller, also you went into full detail about the controller too and even went further and beyond too take the controller apart that’s some dedication right there, this is the first video I’ve watched from you and I’ve only just recently ordered an Apex 4, you’ve got yourself a new sub you’ve earned it awesome video 👍🏻👏🏻
what you are asking for. haptic triggers and feedback on ps5 is not possible. Sony has loked the communication between the dualsense and ps5 games. so only if you have an official licensed peoduct the give the company acces to the communication prototol. and even then they wont share theire haptic technology with anyone. not on the hardware side or software side. what i means is that they can get a license and make the controller itself work on ps5 games. but without the adaptive triggers. Sony will not share the software protocol for that, ever
got mine on Monday, i can say this feels better than my elite 2. only thing that's hard to get used to is the placement of the M buttons in the back. also none of the kontrolfreaks fit on the thumb sticks
Lol this is awful I can already tell those sticks are full of inertia and from that noise the software doesn't poll the ring only the "Percival of real movement" which basically saying in a 200,000 tournament you couldn't trust it with your life since it is up to the microcontroller to decide and calculate if a real movement was made I definitely see glitches with this
The sticks remind me of the hall effect gimbals on radio transmitters used for rc stuff (mainly fpv drones). The way the tension adjustment works and how it springs back to center reminds me of them. Radiomasters and i think some Spektrums and other high end transmitters have spring tension adjustment on their sticks but also have friction adjustment as well. I'd love to see more customizability/adjustability in analog stick feel on controllers. And thanks for the great review and teardown.
the loss of c and z buttons did it for me. keeping my vader 3 pro. the ultimate controller would have an x y z row and an a b c row below it kinda like the old 6 button genesis controllers
Problem with this xbox shape controller are when u are constantly using right trigger ur hand will sore for small hand person or asian man. Ds4 is better shape for small hand
very interesting tension mechanism on the joysticks. i wonder if the plastic will wear down fast since it's a plastic post rubbing against a plastic plank. would be interesting to see a follow up video after 3 or 4 months of use!!
@@abelbatman1957 2. Thrustmaster Eswap Pro/X. Sticks a THE MOST ACCURATE on the market, i swear it's the just next level, even better than apex 4. Abxy also is amazing, silent and nice to press mechanical buttons. But it's wired, R and L buttons are very loud, triggers and rumble mediocre, gamepad is very big, so i play with him Forza 5, driving so so precise and sensitive. For all shooters where i will need razor aim i will also prefer Eswap. But for immersive and single games apex 4 better. More comfortable in hands, better rumble, all buttons perfect to click, etc. 3. Xbox elite series 2. This thing have very many technical problems, but it's just very comfortable when it's work. Now apex 4 replaced him all the ways. Other gamepads great in one thing, suck on other, so this three is the best for me.
This controller would be perfect if they: 1) bring back the extra buttons the Apex 2 had next to the triggers. So much more useful than the C and Z buttons they include on the Vader line. 2) create a DS4 or DualSense mode, not just for the adaptive triggers, but so that you can use the built in gyro controls of games or configure the controller with Steam Input.
I just bought the vader 3 pro. Trigger lock is like a mouse click, really good. It probably does not have DS vibration mode. Latency is also insanely good with the dongle. I used an extender hub for the dongle.
Nice review! Does the clear plastic made with anti-yellowing material as well? I hope they make a controller clip that supports phone cooler. And i think i saw several delays on the adaptive trigger. Hope they fix it soon!
Tips on the clips when unsnapping it / putting it back together. I've opened it 3-4 times now and always seem to have a bit of trouble lining it up and closing it properly. I'll have the bottom stick out a touch or something :( I broke the RB after 2 months of having it. Was pretty tilted and tempted to buy something else. I glued the bumper together last night and ordered another a earlier today. :Shrugs:
Great review, as always :) Do you plan on testing Beitong/Betop gamepads? They have a nice selection of models with different specs, would be great to see them reviewed properly like you do (with a teardown). As a suggestion for the testing: Launch a 2d fighting game like Street Fighter 2 and test the d-pad by throwing 10x hadoukens and 10x shoryukens from each side, with a game that displays the captured inputs.
seriously, useless back paddles. Why is the layout like that. Hand positioning would be so awkward, Controllers are so gimmicky with Leds bla bla, but cant even get the layout right
Microsoft really needs to catch the hell up with feedback and adaptive triggers so they can add it to Xinput and make it the standard. Always sucks having that one lowest common denominator keeping controllers stuck with functionality from the PS2/OG Xbox era.
Great reviews (watched the Vader 3 Pro aswell), really nice to have featured compared with other controllers and so well explained, absolutely love the teardowns. Not sure if I prefer these triggers over V3Pro's. And the sticks look amazing except for the physical bounceback. 16:50 Windows jumpscare
Hey guys! Which controller would you rather choose? Turtle beach Stealth ultra or Flydigi Apex 4. And if anyone here did try both of these controllers. Which of them have a better screen and in controller UI? Thanks
they could also add the top 2 upper bumpers from the past apex 2 . Also, i wish they add physical lock to the back buttons M1 and M2 (the ones closer to the hand when holding a controller 4:53 ) . few controllers have this but some times i just do not want to use/miss click the back buttons . they could also just remove M1 and M2 and add the 2 upper bumpers
Papi este control es lo mejor que hay, I used to have a 350$ battle beaver controller and this is way better than my original battle beaver controller for less, I’m just in love with this controller also 0 stick drift
