I just got these new diamond-tip propeller blades for my drone and was flying it about 200 feet agl when something went wrong and my drone fell out of the sky. It came down like a comet! As it went past a building, its blades dug deep into the marble surface, leaving huge gouges all the way to the ground. When it hit, it left a crater five feet deep! You can see why it's so important that we have these regulations in place, because that happened three more times that day!

I so applied and was rejected. My application was broad seeking a general waiver of the rule in Section G airspace anywhere. The rejection letter: " In particular, your request did not describe your operation and it did not provide an explanation of how the operation would be safely conducted." Do you have any further guidance on the level of detail the FAA will require for this waiver? Thanks. Jeff

I see the StartRC guards for the Mini 3 Pro are much lighter, and provide less prop protection than some of the others. Specifically, the top of the props remain exposed. Any idea how the FAA will look at this? Would the StartRC qualify for this waiver? And thanks for the update!
@PilotInstitute
@PilotInstitute Месяц назад
The FAA won’t look at what product you use. They just want you to put props on that prevent lacerations. It’s up to you, as the pilot, to decide if this is enough protection and if it exposes you to more or less liability.
@CrobraStrike27
@CrobraStrike27 Месяц назад
@PilotInstitute Important question: Is this JUST the weight of the drones, or any weight upon takeoff similar to what other regs measure? This is important because, doing the math, the Avata 2 PLUS the firehouse strobe light would just push it over that 399 gram limit. Not to mention the weight of the velcro webbing used to attach the strobe. Seems like that would JUST push it over the edge which is just horrible. Fortunately I also have a mini 4 pro which, doing the math, puts it at 390 grams with all the necessities mounted. That is, pro battery for RID activation, both prop guards, and the strobe with 8 grams to spare. However, I'm fortunate, and some others here only have the Avata 2. Hopefully they don't have to go having plastic off for the weight.

You have to be careful though. Adding prop guards and anti collision light might put your craft over 249g. Also, if you're a Mini 4, RID won't work unless you are using the larger battery which puts you over 249g.

Anyone have any rumors on parachutes for the Mavic Pro. I know Greg said they were not available, but is anyone aware of a way to make the one that works for the enterprise work on a pro? I know its not likely, but it never hurst to ask.

The matrice 300 is not really a video or photo drone. It’s not the best tool but no safety reason not to fly it.

Nope. Weight limit is what’s important, and of course, if you need a parachute, you’ll need to find a solution that is ASTM compliant.

Does adding your prop guards, anti-collision lights put you over 249g? Do you have RID? On the mini 4 the RID does not operate with the smaller battery, only the larger one and the guards and light would put it over 249g anyway. Yes, having a problem finding the new rules at FAA site as well.

EDIT: Already answered earlier on 5/29/24. Scroll down. Greg, are you aware of any requirements for the type of prop guards? The DJI prop guards for the Mini 4 Pro completely encircle all four blades. Other products , including the STARTRC, leave gaps, between the two front props and between the two rear props.
