In part 2, Mark Vizcarra begins with his latter time in the F-14 before moving on to fly the F/A-18 Hornet in the aggressor role.
Mark shares what it was like transitioning to the Hornet from the Tomcat (also being qualified on both at the same time), getting used to a new digital cockpit, what the hornet does well with some great stories along the way.
In the second half, Mark shares how he got into creating and producing movies/documentaries and some of the titles he has created.
Enjoy!

I am a retired military bandsman and I just love your F-14 bass guitar.

Thanks Alan...I custom built that bass in 1999. It plays great and actually sounds better than my 1977 Fender Precision that I've owned for 44 years!

@@MarkVizcarraCDR I showed that around to our little group of guys that plays at our Legion Hall on Fridays. They really thought that it was neat. I will pass this along next Friday. By the way I was a percussionist in the 116th Army Band. Do only drum set now. Thank you for your distinguished service to our country.

Slowly working my way through all episodes. Fantastic interview. What a career Mark had. Doors just seemed to open up for him at the right time. Very tempted to buy his videos.

I loved this! What a legend! My favourite part was Mark cutting off Al 'save the icebergs' Gore. Can't wait to watch Tomcat tales!

Of course, you know you are mocking an Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict. I guess we can all be respectful.

Looks like he talked about only the F-14A. I believe, he flew the F-14B with the 30% more powerful GE-F110 engines as well. Wish he had spoken about that as well. Also, I don't believe it was because of 'Snort's insane skills with Tomcat, he used to beat on Hornets all day even with the F-14A. It is just that the adversary/aggressor Hornet Mark flew were radically different from in-service Hornets because of the no tanks, rails, slick wings, weight reduction for their role etc. Just like the F-16N vs F-16C or A-4F. 'Mover' CW Lemoine's biggest complaint with F-18 was 'it was too underpowered' and could not do double immelmans (F-14s did double immelmans all day). Mark mentions himself how the aggressor Hornet could go supersonic in military power while in-service USN Hornets would barely break Mach 1 on the deck (50 feet) in dense air in full afterburner while Tomcat would do Mach 1.3+ on the deck. Still, no denying at slow speed below 150 knots, high AoA nose pointing fight, Hornet was formidable and very tough to beat at that speed in the ACM arena for any other fighter.

My brother, "Scar" was the one who got to fly all the F-14 variants...I got stuck flying only the "old driven hard put up wet" F-14A. In fact I've logged time in some of the oldest Tomcats in the Fleet. One was the 17th F-14 built and was one of the first ones delivered to the Fleet in 1972. I freaked out when I saw the identification plate in the cockpit and saw the date...I thought, man this is ancient...I hope it doesn't fall apart!

@@MarkVizcarraCDR Thanks for responding to my post. Honored and thanks for your service. Oh yeah, I remember seeing your brother with you in the 'Tomcat Tales' movie. Awesome movie. Will stream it again soon. I understand your point about the A. The TF-030s were old and tired. Also de-tuned in the late-90s with a by-pass valve near the end of their life for maintenance reasons and also to reduce probably of compressor stall (something 'Snort' used to disable immediately to get the 4000 lbsf of thrust per engine back LOL). The B/D with GE-F110s had monster thrust and I heard from pilots that they had no issues keeping up straight in the vertical scissor fights with 'Charlie' Eagles P&W 220 engines (Dave 'Hey Joe' Parson) for example. Cheers!

@@MarkVizcarraCDR I really hope you do a sequel of it with some new cool stories with Tomcat pilots. I also tried to purchase the blueray and might have spoken with you via email. but they were not shipping the blueray outside the US. Anyway, I will purchase and stream the movie again on my day off from work. TOMCATS FOREVER!

Mike that interview was awesome.I loved part one but part two was fantastic. So many ways in which I like this from his family connections to the stories from his career to his film work after Mark retired from military service. He's a fabulous story teller A chip off the old block. Great work Mike cheers

How about a compromise? Analogue gauges displayed on the screens. The best of both worlds. 😁

GA screens typically have that option. But they're processing for something doing 10% maybe 20% of a Hornet's speed
